Callum "Halfway" Highway (Tony Clay) joined the EastEnders cast on New Year's Day during the heist fail.

The new character accidentally shot Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) in the dramatic climax of the epic criminal fail.

And keen audiences thought they'd seen the last of him after his shock debut.

But three weeks later and Halfway has found a home in the Queen Vic.

He's been employed by the Carter family and is currently working behind the bar – like an accidental shooting never even happened.

Naturally viewers have no idea what Halfway's doing in Walford and have slammed his presence as "irrelevant."

One person blasted on Reddit: "Why exactly is he still there? What was he doing before the robbery? Does he not have a flat or a roommate who would be concerned?"

"So he shoots Mick because he's involved in a dodgy mafia type gang and the Carters let him live with them. What makes this worse is Mick got rid of Lee and let this idiot friend replace his spot in the family? What a joke," cried another.

A third begged: "What is Halfway still doing here?"

But it looks like Halfway is soon going to become part of the Walford furniture.

EastEnders spoilers have revealed that Halfway will get together with Whitney Carter (Shona McGarty) in scenes that are due to air next week.

Whit's half-sister Tiffany decides that her sibling needs a bit of love in her life and decides to set the two singletons up.

After their candlelit and fizz-filled feast the duo arranged to see each other again.

But the question on everyone's lips is: "Will he be will he be sticking around indefinitely?"
