    Ruby (Maddy Hill)

Swapping Albert Square for A&E, EastEnders star Maddy Hill is heading over to Casualty on the BBC.

Hill famously joined EastEnders in 2014 as Nancy Carter, the daughter of Mick and Linda. During her two-year stint, she had memorable storylines including a relationship with Tamwar Masood and a critically-acclaimed epilepsy plot.

However, heading to new horizons, Hill will play paramedic Ruby on series 33 of the Beeb's long-running medical drama.

"I'm incredibly excited to be working with the BBC again on Casualty," she said (via The Sun). "It's such a well loved and respected show and the role of Ruby is like no one I've ever played before."

Given that the star earned two Best Newcomer prizes at the 2014 British Soap Awards and the 2015 National Television Awards, there are high hopes for her part in the A&E series.

The 27-year-old may have left our screens to pursue a life in the theatre, but she is back in Soapland for more disasters and drama.

With Hill saying she has no plans to return to EastEnders, she could be settling in for the long run at Holby General.

Casualty recently aired the shock departure of Max Walker, so there is plenty of room for some new blood in the emergency department.
