Neighbours is over for another year, but with three soaptastic cliffhangers in the 2017 season finale episode, there's plenty to keep us all chatting and speculating over the four-week Christmas break.

With Tyler in turmoil, Paige panicking over Gabe and the surprise reappearance of a certain Dee Bliss, it's time to round up the biggest questions and theories we've been left to ponder.

1. Dee or Fake Dee?

With Toadie and Sonya Rebecchi renewing their wedding vows yet again in the season finale, the temptation to have Dee Bliss turn up was clearly impossible for the writers to resist. After the happy couple's ceremony was over, we saw everyone's favourite back-from-the-dead character watching them from a taxi – paving the way for more Dee-licious (sorry) drama in 2018.

It's the first time we've seen Dee since her last brief appearance on a park bench in August, and once again, we've been left with the same old question about this mystery woman. Is this Fake Dee, who cruelly conned Toadie out of his savings? Is the Real Dee back from the dead? Is there a third woman who looks just like her? (Too far!)

You may also be interested to know that Neighbours even kept Dee's scene out of the official press preview for the episode, so her reappearance even took us by surprise. Who says Neighbours can't keep a secret?

2. Who really killed Hamish?

Fan favourite Tyler Brennan has now confessed that he was responsible for Hamish Roche's murder, since every other suspect has seemingly been ruled out. Heading to the police station to confess on Christmas Day, moralistic Tyler seemed to be condemning himself to a long stretch behind bars.

We can't help but smell a rat, though! Neighbours whodunits rarely end with the culprit being a regular character and Travis Burns – who plays Tyler – recently tweeted that he's not leaving the show when asked by a fan.

Could it be that the real culprit is still to be unmasked?

3. Who kidnapped Gabe?

Poor Paige has endured a turbulent year already, but Neighbours saved her nastiest surprise until last as her baby son was snatched and driven away in the closing moments of 2017.

Paige hasn't had too many enemies recently, making this moment all the more baffling. Was it a spur-of-the-moment kidnapping, or has this been planned for a while? Could Hamish's real killer and the baby snatcher be the same person? Will Gabe be returned unharmed?

Well, we can answer at least one of these questions. A few of the Neighbours cast uploaded behind-the-scenes shots of an upcoming episode featuring Gabe's christening on their social media pages just a few weeks ago, so signs point to a happy outcome!

4. Is Izzy causing trouble already?

One of Neighbours' biggest storylines next year will see homewrecker Izzy Hoyland return to Erinsborough, so unsurprisingly, she's suddenly being mentioned in scripts again to provide a tantalising build-up. Amid the more high-octane drama of the season finale, the Kennedys were torn apart over Christmas as Karl had to travel to London to be with his daughter Holly following Izzy's latest flight of fancy.

Susan was pretty understanding when it came to Karl's decision, but are the Neighbours writers already sowing seeds for the drama to come next year? Could Izzy drive a wedge between the Kennedys all over again?

5. Will Sonya get pregnant?

The Rebecchis have decided to try for another baby and interfering Angie thinks she knows exactly the way to help things along – a "fertility potion" that's previously helped various other members of the family.

Sonya and Toadie are now heading off on a boat to celebrate their honeymoon. This is pretty good timing since, according to Angie's bizarre superstitions, the potion is best consumed near salt water. If Angie gets her way, could there be a new Rebecchi arriving in 2018?

6. Are David and Aaron getting married?

Neighbours' finale ended with a first look at storylines to come in 2018, which included the big revelation that David Tanaka and Aaron Brennan could be heading down the aisle next year. First look footage showed David telling his siblings Leo and Amy that he's planning to pop the question – and we will definitely see a proposal in the New Year.

Same sex marriage has just been officially signed into law in Australia, so it seems that Neighbours could be planning to celebrate already with the Aussie soap's first ever gay wedding. But with Aaron's ex Rory waiting in the wings, there may be some drama to work through first…

7. Do Toadie and Sonya get lost at sea?

The other major revelation from the 2018 promo footage was that Toadie and Sonya's honeymoon boat trip doesn't exactly go to plan! The happy couple were seen panicking after realising that they'd accidentally strayed into the open sea.

Let's hope a vengeful back-from-the-dead Dee isn't giving Toadie a taste of his own medicine for carelessly driving her off that cliff and to meet a watery fate in 2003…

Neighbours returns on Monday, January 8 on Channel 5.

We also got the Izzy return teaser after the season finale, here in Sydney. If you go to YouTube & lookup/search for 'Neighbours 2018 promo' (or similar), there is a 21 second 2018 promo video (plus the Izzy teaser etc). I hope that helps.

You just knew it was coming Gabe being kidnapped, they teased us with the lift scene with Steph ages ago to get us thinking, but this was a red herring, I think it could be the Mc carreys can't spell, the family that were stealing cars a while back and her and Tyler got mixed up in it,with Jack leaving with Paige may be they get back together from this

Yeah, there’s no way it was ever going to be Steph though, the lift scene was a plot device to get her to be friends with Paige, back with Jack and seeing Adam again. The writers would never have Steph kidnap another child, after re-building her life. Her character would be finished on the show, she could never come back from that. Anyway, I’m sure we’ve all read the spoilers now as to who the real kidnapper is-I’m quite disappointed, I hoped for someone less predictable. Is Jack leaving with Paige? I haven’t heard anything. She’s still with Mark in scenes coming up in February.
