Exclamation Coronation Street hit by scheduling disruption because of football

Coronation Street is once again being put on the bench so that football can be shown on ITV.

As we all know, Corrie usually airs at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on a Friday – but the soap will be substituted on ITV on September 1 to make way for the World Cup qualifiers.

The Malta vs England game will be shown at 7.15pm on that Friday through the evening until 10pm. Emmerdale will be airing at the earlier time of 6.45pm as a result.

Of course, this is not the first time football has interrupted the soap schedules – with last summer's Euro 2016 leaving many fans up in arms over all the disruption.

It's not all bad news, though, as Corrie and Emmerdale are commissioned for a set number of episodes each year, so it always balances out in the long-run.

Viewers will have to keep their eyes peeled for more news on Corrie's rearranged schedule date, but the soap is currently gearing up to air six times a week – so there will soon be more Weatherfield action than ever before.

Sorry soap fans, there is more scheduling disruption ahead for both Coronation Street and Emmerdale as ITV continues to make way for the football.

We've already revealed how Corrie is being benched on Friday, September 1 with the Malta vs England game being aired on ITV instead. But fear not, as viewers will be treated to a double dose of Weatherfield action on Sunday, September 3 instead.

That's right, ITV will be airing an hour-long Corrie special on the Sunday night, running from 7pm to 8pm – but the bad news is that it isn't airing again after that until Wednesday, September 6.

This is because that Corrie's usual Monday night slots at 7.30pm and 8.30pm are being substituted for the England v Slovakia game at 7.15pm.

As we've previously explained though, both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are commissioned for a set number of episodes each year, meaning it always balances out in the long-run.

Speaking of Emmerdale, the show will also suffer some minor disruption due to the football, as it airs at the earlier time of 6.45pm on both Friday, September 1 and Monday, September 4.

Fans of the soap will also be treated to a whopping 90 minutes of Dales drama on Thursday, September 7 – it's airing at its usual time of 7pm that night, but with an hour-long episode following at 8pm.

Emmerdale continues tonight (August 24) at 7pm, while Coronation Street continues tomorrow night (August 25) at 7.30pm on ITV.
