Confederation Cup disruptions for Emmerdale and Corrie

Football interrupting the soaps is not an entirely unexpected occurrence – look at the fuss caused by last summer's EastEnders being brushed aside during Euro 2016 – but it's nevertheless irritating for us soap addicts when it does happen.

(Insert catty yet predictable comment about how it's an outrage that some men kicking a ball around a field takes priority over our beloved television schedules.)

So here's a heads-up for the latest episodes that are unceremoniously getting sent off the field in the name of footy, in this case the Confederations Cup semi-finals being held over in Russia.

On Wednesday June 28 there will be no Emmerdale at 7pm, and likewise that same day the 7.30pm showing of Corrie is being put on the bench. Then the day after, Thursday June 29, Emmerdale is off air again in both its 7pm and 8pm showings.

There is some welcome solace though, soap fans! It can be found in the fact that Emmerdale will have extended hour-long episodes aired on Tuesday June 20 and Tuesday June 27 to make up for lost ground.

That said, extra Corrie hasn't been explicitly confirmed yet, but seeing as the soaps have a set number of shows commissioned to be aired through the year, it will certainly be made up along the way at some point.
