Teen Xanthe Canning has been falling under the spell of her charming teacher Finn Kelly.
In Neighbours this week, their already inappropriate relationship takes a concerning turn when the naïve Xanthe (Lilly Van der Meer) decides to run off overseas with teacher Finn (Rob Mills).
"Xanthe has become his confidant," Rob, 34, tells TV WEEK. "She's the only one who knows his secret.
"He also enjoys Xanthe's innocence, & I don't mean that in a creepy way. She's so caring. It's a nice quality to be around."
Fearing persecution for poisoning Susan, fugitive Finn has been hiding out in the recently abandoned church.
When the schoolgirl visits to take him food, Finn tells her he's planning to flee to Hong Kong soon.
Devastated at the prospect of him leaving, Xanthe suggests that she join him overseas - a plan that Finn shuts down at once.
Dismayed by her helplessness, the teen returns home where she's met by Elly (Jodi Anasta). She confronts her about her relationship with Finn.
The teacher tries in vain to convince Xanthe that Finn is being manipulative & has been telling her only what she wants to hear.
But try as she might, Elly's words fall on deaf ears.
"Finn's whole relationship with Xanthe is so wrong," Jodi, 32, says.
"And it puts Elly in a tough situation, because she's trying to warn Xanthe of things she's already been through with Finn."
Undeterred by the information, Xanthe sneaks off back to Finn. She brazenly announces she has sold the ring her mum gave her and used the money to but a plane ticket to Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, as the pair make their way to the airport, Gary, Sheila and Elly are beside themselves when they realise Xanthe has disappeared.
"Sheila is incredibly protective of her granddaughter," Colette Mann, 67, explains.
"When she finds out about Xanthe and Finn, all hell breaks loose."
As the pair board their flight, the runaway teen can't help but profess her love to her teacher.
And as the jet engines throb into life, Xanthe eases back in her seat and happily imagines her new life in Hong Kong with Finn.
Will a desperate Sheila, Gary and Elly be able to make it to the airport before young Xanthe's plane takes to the air?
