    Exclamation Max (Jack Hickey)

Emmerdale newbie Jack Hickey promises "heartbreaking" scenes between Carly Hope and her ex Matt.

Emmerdale newbie Jack Hickey has told fans to expect "heartbreaking" scenes between Carly Hope and her ex-boyfriend Matt.

Matt (played by Hickey) arrives in the village to confront Carly (Gemma Atkinson) about why she didn't tell him about their son's death at the time – also inadvertently scuppering Marlon Dingle's plan to propose to her.
Matt is the father of Carly's tragic baby boy Billy, who lost his life to cot death shortly after he was born a few years ago.

And Hickey has told the Irish Daily Star that both characters will be feeling extremely emotional.
"The storyline is a heartbreaking one," he said. "Matt is a grieving dad, and he and Carly have a complicated and dark history.
"And it's safe to say he comes back to confront her on several levels.
"Obviously Carly has been through this harrowing ordeal of losing a baby, so his arrival causes a huge emotional storm for her."
Hickey was full of praise for co-star Atkinson, whom he called a "wonderful actress".
"To be honest, I really don't know what could prepare you for a [storyline] like that, but myself and Gemma worked to find a connection with each other on that level and she's such a wonderful actress that it felt very natural," he said.
