Career Flatline. Nate makes a life-changing decision - Will he leave the Bay?

Brace yourselves for more heartache, fans, because resident surgeon, Nate is hanging up his scrubs! Will he now leave town for good?

In episodes of Home and Away this week, Nate (Kyle Pryor) is wallowing in self-pity after losing his job at the hospital.

With only one hospital in Summer Bay, Nate is coming to terms with the fact that he has to leave town - and girlfriend Tori (Penny McNamee) - to continue his career.

At the same time, Tori is struggling to earn Nate's forgiveness for her part in his dismissal. Fans will recall the couple clashed after Tori chose not to defend Nate.

To remain professional, Tori opted not to get involved. She let the hospital board chose who to sack.

"As the head of the emergency department, Tori was trying to be professional," Penny explains.

"But it backfired, as Nate lost his job. She felt her hands were tied, but he felt she could have stepped in."

Nate decides he needs time to think about his future & heads off on a trip. His departure leaves Tori unsure of where they stand.

"It's a big mess," Penny says. "They're both upset with each other."

A few days later, Tori is shocked to see Nate kayaking in the Bay. At least she thinks it's him. Surely he'd tell her if he was back in town, right?

When Tori visits Irene she notices Nate's motorbike out the front. It was him in the kayak! Confused, she walks inside to see her hunky boyfriend has returned.

There's an awkward reunion as the pair stumble to get out words. Nate reveals he actually arrived home the day before. but tiptoes around exactly where he went.

As Tori wonders why he's being so evasive, Nate drops a bombshell: he's decided to give up medicine.

He declares he's had enough of the shift work & bureaucracy. But Tori isn't convinced. She's gutted, and feels at fault for him throwing away his career.

"Tori & Nate are so well-suited and she loves him," Penny says. "She'd like to settle down with him, get married and have children."

Nate tells Tori he's now deciding to start fresh in Summer Bay, or leave town. If he leaves, will Tori follow?

"She may very well decide to go with him," Penny says. "That's definitely on the cards."

Will the good doctors farewell Summer Bay?

Prison beating. John is attacked behind bars.

Life in prison takes a deadly turn for John when he becomes the target of a ruthless thug.

Home and Away fans will recall John (Shane Withington) recently had an altercation with fellow inmate Deacon.

His attempt to harass Marilyn during a prison visit saw John lash out and shirtfront him.

A shaken Marilyn was left wondering who her husband had become.

"John's quite violent and angry in that moment," Shane, 58, explains. "Marilyn sees all this and is worried. The man she married doesn't brawl, but John has hit absolute bottom."

Later that day, Morag arrived with news that John could walk out of jail on appeal.

While he would be appealing against the sentence & not the verdict, John decides he can live with being labelled guilty if it means he can go home.

This week, Deacon confronts John & holds up his arm - he's a burns victim. The felon says his daughter died in a fire & he knows what John did. He threatens to make him pay.

Later, Deacon & his cohorts confront John, calling him a monster. John retaliates by throwing a punch.

"He thinks, 'I'm not going to live in fear for 13 years, so bring it on!'" Shane says. "As Deacon's mates rush in, John gets badly beaten."

The vicious gang leave their victim bloodied & fighting for his life.

If Morag doesn't succeed in getting John out of jail, it could be too late!

    Also, this week...

Roo has finally met the love of her life - and she's pregnant! But what will she do when James says he doesn't want kids?

After concealing the news for so long, Roo finally lets James in on her baby secret.

Blindsided, James tells her they can't have the baby. He has no interest in becoming a father. As they argue, James issues Roo a stark ultimatum: him or the baby.

A shocked Roo realises this isn't the man she fell in love with. Is this the end for them - and will Roo keep the child?

It seems one Summer Bay resident could soon be heading for pastures new, as Nate Cooper (Kyle Pryor) takes some time away this week to think about his future.

After effectively being forced to resign from the hospital when Tori (Penny McNamee) was put under pressure to fire him, the couple haven’t quite got back on track.

“As the head of the emergency department, Tori was trying to be professional” Penny told TV Week. “But it backfired as Nate lost his job. She felt her hands were tied, but he felt she could have stepped in. It’s a big mess, they’re both upset with each other.”

With losing his job at the only hospital in the area, Nate realises that he may have to move elsewhere in order to continue his career, and heads away for a while to try and work things out.

A couple of days later, Tori is surprised to see Nate kayaking in the bay, and he sheepishly admits that he arrived home the previous day. As Tori wonders why Nate is being so cagey as to where he’s been, he makes the shock announcement that he’s decided to give up medicine—he’s had enough of the shift work and bureaucracy.

But that isn’t the only thing, as he also announces to a gutted Tori that he’s trying to make a decision on whether to leave Summer Bay altogether!

“Tori and Nate are so well-suited and she loves him” Penny continued. “She’d like to settle down with him, get married and have children. She may well go with him. That’s definitely on the cards.”

Meanwhile, Roo (Georgie Parker) finally decides to come clean to new beau James (Tim Ross) about her pregnancy. Having previously discussed children when Roo believed she was going through the menopause, James took it in his stride and told her that a lack of children wouldn’t be an issue—he certainly had no plans for fatherhood.

However, if Roo was hoping he may change his mind on learning the latest development. she’s sadly mistaken. Taken aback, he tells her that they can’t have the baby—he meant what he said, he does not want to be a father.

As they continue to argue, Roo is shocked when James gives her an ultimatum—it’s him, or the baby…

Elsewhere this week, John makes an enemy of Deacon in jail and receives a brutal beating, Brody’s lies begin to unravel as he struggles to keep it together, and Zac makes a bold move to try and win Leah back…
