I like the idea, he can teach his peers and it might make some of his friends go and learn SL. I get that there are no teachers and none of his classmates would understand him yet but they will as time goes on...

Why does he want to ?

Because he knows what it's like to have a deaf brother and he was trying to teach some of the other kids some words in sign language in case they should ever need it to communicate with a deaf person so that person wouldn't feel left out, lonely and isolated. Seems like a good thing to me.

Put it another way, why does the school want to ban it?

He was teaching them the offside rule in BSL.
Something everyone needs to know.

So why teach French or German or other languages in schools? They're for French people and German people.

And those that have had experience with family or friends that have deaf people, .. like Gemma in Corrie and the current storyline..

The people that you mention need to know. Everyone else doesn't.

Teaching languages in schools is for pupils in senior schools.

I'm sure when we were shown Leo in the skip and being dragged away, his position had changed?
