Yes, he did .. was made to feel guilty as so many other folk do not have a home and he would have had to leave neighbours and friends

He doesn't have a church or parishioners. He is not a vicar, he's an archdeacon.

He was only made an archdeacon recently. Wasn't he a vicar up until then with a church? That was why he was offered a vicarage and turned it down .

I seem to remember when we first met Billy, was he not living next to his church, but moved out of that house to keep his personal life more private? - Then again maybe I am imagining this, or making it up..

I can't remember, but I know he was offered a house to go with his job as archdeacon because Paul was very excited about it and then very unhappy when Billy turned it down.
