We had a similar case in our local council recently. A Councillor emailed his resignation to the Chief Executive. About half an hour later, he emailed again to say he had made a mistake and hadn't meant to send the email. He was told that his resignation couldn't be rescinded as it had already been accepted.

As soon as she resigned a process would have begun internally to get a replacement.

I thought as much .. my sister-in-law resigned from a job by email and regretted it and tried to have it rescinded .. they had accepted it and she never got the job back
