We never saw Sarah read the letter, only tear the envelope in half.

I'm not sure what the law is in the UK but in the US we have HIPPA laws. You cannot divulge a patient's records without their permission (it's a federal crime). So if you have similar laws in the UK, the clinic/lab/doctor's office/hospital cannot tell Adam the results. Also, isn't it a bit early to determine paternity?

She read it in the flat. Then told Adam that there was no letter and that someone had phoned with the result. She then disposed of the letter in Victoria Gardens.

We do have the same laws in UK. Paternity test was supposed to take 2 weeks.

I'm no expert about any of this, but I agree that it does seem very early to determine paternity on a two month(-ish) foetus?
I'd expect the scriptwriters to have done their homework, but who knows? Does anyone have knowledge about it?

I whizzed through the 12 July episode again:
At around 19 minutes 50 seconds, Sarah looks through all the post, singles out the paternity letter but doesn?t open it.
The next we see of the letter is 43:40, with Sarah sitting outside on the park bench, tearing the envelope in half, getting up and putting it in a waste bin.
She's never been seen to have read the letter.

I think she wants to believe it is Adam's baby and just does not want to read the letter in case he is not. Will somebody find the letter and read it???

I believe 9 weeks is the earliest you can test for DNA.

Probably Stu, he used to scavenge around in bins for food in his previous life.

If someone does find the letter Sarah will deserve to be found out. She should have made more effort to get rid of it, tore it into tiny pieces, burnt it, stuffed at the bottom of a wheelie bin, not place it at the top of a letter bin in a public garden. This is more or less telling us someone will read it.
