I'm so sick of the Olivia/Hunter on-off relationship! They've just broken up here in the UK and I was hoping it would be permanent.

So, the spoilers in my original post for Mon 6 March & Tue 7 March, will now be part of the triple episode airing on Thurs 2 March (I have made mention of this in a post on the 27 Feb - 2 March thread). Thanks again.

(N.B. This Soap Diary was obviously done before the scheduling changes mentioned in the previous post. So, the following spoilers for Monday & Tuesday will now be part of the triple episode this week on Thurs 2 March etc.)

Monday (now on Thurs 2 March)

    - Ash & Leah clash as they take care of baby Luc.
    - John undergoes surgery to remove his brain tumour.
    - Justin calls a family meeting to discuss Phoebe moving in with the Morgan family.

Tuesday (now on Thurs 2 March)

    - Zac's guilt eats away at him. Will he have the courage to tell Leah the truth?
    - Ash & Irene ask to help out VJ & Leah with Luc.
    - John thinks about not fighting the arson charges.

    Wednesday (now Mon 6 March)

    - Olivia feels overwhelmed as she starts university.
    - Matt isn't sure if he should go to Vietnam.
    - Zac & Leah are still at loggerheads.

    Thursday (now Tue 7 March)

    - Hunter accompanies Olivia to O Week at university, but it doesn't go according to plan.
    - Ash & Kat reunite, but are interrupted by shocking news.
    - Mason meets someone at O Week.

TV Week also has the following plot teasers:

On The Brain. Will John Survive Surgery.

John's life hangs in the balance this week, as an anxious Marilyn worries whether he will survive surgery to remove a brain tumour.

In heart-stopping episodes of Home and Away, John (Shane Withington) goes into anaphylactic shock after the operation. It leaves his wife, Marilyn, fearing the worst.

Will John survive? And how will Maz cope if she loses the love of her life?

Last week, John became despondent after learning he was the serial arsonist who lit the fire that led to Billie's death & left Marilyn severely burnt.

John discovered he had a brain tumour, which caused him to behave in aberrant ways he had no knowledge of.

"It was horrifying for John when the realisation of what he'd done hit him," Shane, 58, says. "He goes into the darkest of places."

As fans will recall, the brain tumour stems from a nasty head injury he sustained last year while getting onto a boat. Over time, his condition has deteriorated to the point where John recently had a seizure on the floor.

He was so down last week, John initially decided against having surgery to remove the dangerous tumour.

The reality is, even if he does survive the procedure, he's sure to face charges over the fires. It could mean a lengthy prison sentence.

"He descends into the blackest of times," Shane explains. "John's thinking 'What's the point? I don't remember what happened, but I did this. I don't want surgery - I want out!"'

However, Marilyn convinced him to go under the knife, telling him that if he really loved her, he'd have the operation.

This week, she opens up to Alf about her fears the surgery will leave John changed forever.

Suddenly, John goes into anaphylactic shock after being given a painkiller. With John's heart rate rocketing, he could die unless he receives medication immediately.

"He reacts badly [to the medication], leaving him unconscious," Shane says. "Marilyn is broken. She's severely burnt, the whole town is burnt & her husband has admitted he's responsible. Now, she might lose him."

Marilyn looks on anxiously, praying her husband will recover.

Is this the end for poor John?

Love Is A Battlefield. Leah And Sam Have A War Of Words.

An upset Leah has an ultimatum for Sam: leave her husband alone!

With her marriage on the rocks, plus the devastating loss of Billie & the arrival of baby Luc to deal with, Leah is struggling.

She's caring for Luc while VJ mourns his wife's death.

Leah is out walking the baby when she comes across Sam. Leah demands she stay away from Zac - he's not interested.

Sam fires back that it's Zac who needs to stay away.

Later at home, just as Zac is reassuring Leah nothing is going on, Sam turns up. She's looking for a caravan to stay in.

Leah snaps at her to sleep in her car, but is left humiliated when Zac hands over the keys to a van.

Now, she's staying just metres away! As Leah storms off, Zac is miserable.

Will Sam finally get her man?

Three's A Crowd. Olivia Is Torn Between Mason And Hunter

The strained relationship between Olivia and Mason is pushed to the brink this week.

After learning Olivia lied about working with her ex, Hunter, at the diner, Mason worries she still has feelings for him.

He's not the only one worrying. Anxious about starting university, Olivia finds herself turning to Hunter for help. He decides to make her a uni kit as a surprise gift.

Overwhelmed by the gesture, Olivia questions whether it means something much more.

Will she give in to he feelings?

The latest TV Week Soap Diary (Aus) still hasn't caught up to Ch7's scheduling changes mentioned in earlier posts, so most of it's latest spoilers for next week (i.e. the week 13 - 16 March), will actually occur this week (i.e. 6 - 9 March). So following from my previous post:

    Wednesday 8th March (now becomes)

    - John can't forgive himself.
    - VJ won't let Leah help look after baby Luc.
    - Kat investigates the death of Ash's brother. Is it possible he's actually still alive?

Thursday 9th March (triple episode now becomes)

    - Marilyn prepares the house for John's arrival back home.
    - Leah & Irene's different parenting styles cause tension between the friends.
    - John drops a life-changing bombshell on wife Marilyn.
    - Leah worries VJ is finding it hard to cope as a single parent.
    - Mason asks Lena to be his date for uni night.
    - VJ visits John for the first time since Billie's death. Will he be able to forgive John?

(I hope that is not too confusing!!)

This week, Ash starts receiving what appear to be prank calls, and asks Kat to trace the caller. When he phones the number, he gets through to the voicemail of a man named Patrick Stanwood.

Whilst the name means nothing to him, he is shocked to hear a very familiar voice—it sounds just like his late brother, Luke!

As far as we know, Luke Ashford apparently died several years ago, shortly after returning from army service in Afghanistan. The eldest of the Ashford siblings, he had looked out for Ash and Billie during their childhood whilst their father wasn’t around.

At the time of Luke’s death, Ash was in prison and wasn’t allowed to attend the funeral—and when he went to visit Luke’s grave on Anzac Day in 2015, it was there that he came across his estranged sister Billie.

Could Ash be mistaken by the voice on the phone, or could his brother really be alive? Given that he’s just lost his other sibling, who knows how Ash could react to this…

Whoever Patrick is, when Kat and Ash track him down, it’s not long before Ash gives him a fat lip!

Elsewhere in the bay, after being uncovered as the Summer Bay arsonist, things are going from bad to worse for poor John Palmer (Shane Withington) and his wife Marilyn (Emily Symons).

Last week, only hours after he pulled through brain surgery and a life threatening reaction to painkillers, Kat was forced to formally charge John with five counts of arson causing property damage, and one count of arson causing death.

A despondent John devastated Marilyn by telling her he would not be fighting the charges, as he believes he should pay for what he’d done, even if he wasn’t in control at the time,

This week, John still can’t forgive himself, and as he’s allowed home from hospital the couple are forced to face the town’s anger—starting with a rock thrown through their window with “Burn in hell monster” written on it.

When Marilyn suggests some fresh air to try and lighten his mood, the situation really hits home for the couple. “He’s abused by people in public and comes home devastated” Shane told TV WEEK. “He’s a proud man and a community-minded man. To go from that to the worst villain is awful for both him and Marilyn.”

Falling deeper into despair, John pushes a heartbroken Marilyn away and tells her he’s leaving her, he simply can’t bear to put her through this much pain. “He thinks all is lost” Shane continued “It puts their relationship under enormous pressure.”

When VJ (Matt Little) visits John for the first time since Billie’s death, he finds it in his heart to forgive him—but will that be enough to save both John and his marriage?

It’s been a rollercoaster few months for the Palmer household, but the drama isn’t about to end any time soon as John (Shane Withington) prepares to undergo brain surgery.

Things haven’t been right with John since he fell and hit his head last year—which resulted in a bleed on the brain. Whilst assured by the doctors that it was nothing serious at the time, in the months since we’ve seen John suffer dizziness, physical and mental blackouts, and display some very out of character behaviour.

In recent weeks, both Marilyn (Emily Symons) and Alf (Ray Meagher) became concerned about John’s moodswings, and John himself started to worry about his frequent memory lapses and headaches. During another mental blackout, he attempted to set fire to the bait shop, but was interrupted by Alf and dropped his lighter as he made his escape.

When Kat (Pia Miller) heard from forensics that the lighter contained only John’s fingerprints, the pieces of the puzzle finally come together and confirmed that he was the one responsible for the fires. However at the same time, John had a seizure and he collapsed at home in front of a shocked Marilyn.

Rushed to hospital, Nate (Kyle Pryor) revealed that John had a brain tumour, and that surgery to remove it would be the most viable option. He also confirmed to Kat that a tumour of this type could well cause significant behavioural change.

Whilst Kat chose not to confront John with the truth of what he’d done just yet, the Summer Bay grapevine didn’t take long to reach Ash (George Mason), who stormed into a bewildered John’s hospital room to attack him for causing Billie’s death.

As Kat explained further and John and Marilyn struggled to face up to the shock news that he was responsible for both Billie’s demise and Marilyn’s burns, John grew increasingly despondent and decided against having the surgery—even if he did make it through, he’d still have a possible prison sentence awaiting him.

“It was horrifying for John when the realisation of what he’d done hit him” said Shane to TV WEEK. “He descends into the blackest of times. John’s thinking, ‘What’s the point? I don’t remember what happened but I did this. I don’t want surgery—I want out!’”

After a heartfelt plea from Marilyn, John agrees to undergo the surgery, but she voices her fears to Alf as to whether the man she loves will ever be the same again.

Whilst John makes it through the surgery, a further complication ensues when an administered painkiller causes him to go into anaphylactic shock, leaving him on the brink of death unless action is taken immediately. “He reacts badly, leaving him unconscious” Shane continued. “Marilyn is broken. She’s severely burnt, the whole town is burnt, and her husband has admitted he’s responsible. Now she might lose him.”
