Sonya Rebecchi's life gets even more complicated on Neighbours this week as she is introduced to her teenage half-sister.
Nicola Billie Gullotti has been cast in the role of Sonya's sibling Zoe Mitchell, who makes her first appearance on the Aussie soap this Friday (June 17).
Zoe turns up in Erinsborough after Sonya's father Walter (Greg Stone) drops another big bombshell on her, revealing that he has a 14-year-old daughter who is seriously ill.
An emotional Walter explains that Zoe has leukaemia and needs a bone marrow transplant, which is the real reason that he came to town last month.
Walter wants Sonya to get herself tested with a view to possibly donating her bone marrow to Zoe. Despite much concern from her husband Toadie, Sonya immediately agrees to help.
Sonya's determination to be a donor is cemented when Zoe arrives in Erinsborough and they're introduced for the first time, striking up a quick bond.
Although Sonya is delighted to have connected with her sister, there's a devastating setback when Karl Kennedy is later forced to explain that she's not a match with Zoe.
As everyone reels from the news that Sonya won't be able to help, Walter reluctantly points out that her young daughter Nell could also be tested. But will the Rebechis really allow that to happen?
Neighbours airs these scenes on Friday, June 17 at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
