Here's your official first look at EastEnders spinoff Redwater, which sees Kat and Alfie Moon caught up in high drama a long way from home.

This brand new image has been released now that filming has been completed on the six-part series, which will be broadcast on BBC One in 2017.

Viewers will see the Moons head off to the Irish harbour village of Redwater in search of Kat's long-lost son - a story which first began in EastEnders last year.

Redwater is a quiet and rural village by the sea, where the Kelly and Dolan families have lived for generations.

Don't expect it to be quiet for long, though. When Kat and Alfie arrive, their search for the truth uncovers secrets that the village of Redwater would rather were left buried at sea.

Not much else is known about the storyline at this stage, so we're definitely intrigued...

As previously announced, Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie will be joined by an impressive ensemble cast, including Lost actress Fionnula Flanagan, Orphan Black's Maria Doyle Kennedy and Game of Thrones actor Ian McElhinney.

Other castings include Angeline Ball, Peter Campion and Stanley Townsend.

Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace have revealed that EastEnders barely gets a mention in the show's upcoming spinoff drama Redwater.

The pair's popular characters Kat and Alfie Moon will take centre stage in a six-part drama series early next year, following their new life in an Irish harbour village that is full of secrets.

The Moons turn up in Redwater as part of Kat's search for her long-lost son, a story which began in EastEnders last year.

Shane and Jessie appeared on ITV's Lorraine this morning (December 6) and discussed the exciting new show, warning fans not to expect too many in-jokes or references to Albert Square.

Shane explained: "We were saying before, we've got nothing to compare it to because it's never been done before. None of the soaps have ever done it. They've all had that 'press the red button and there's a side story', but to actually take two characters out and put them amongst these other characters... It is an ensemble piece, it's not just about Kat and Alfie.

"And what was interesting about the script was that we make no reference [to EastEnders]. We never mention Albert Square, we never mention Walford.

"There's just one scene where somebody says: 'Oh Alfie, have you ever had any experience in a pub?' and he says, 'Maybe a little bit!'"

Kat is even frequently referred to by her full name of Kathleen throughout the drama – by everyone except for Alfie, of course.

Shane confirmed: "I'm the only one who calls her Kat. All the other characters call her Kathleen."

Asked whether this could pave the way for other soap characters to cross over into dramas, he replied: "It'd be lovely, wouldn't it? We were just honoured for the fact they asked us to go and do it.

"At first it was just going to be a one-off and then the momentum grew and we spent the best part of five months filming in Ireland. We've literally just finished doing some dubbing and ADR - and it's ready to hit your screens in the New Year."

Show bosses have revealed that Kat and Alfie's arrival in Redwater uncovers secrets that the villagers would rather were left buried at sea.

Shane Richie has revealed a new airdate for EastEnders' upcoming spinoff drama Redwater, which he will star in alongside his on-screen wife Jessie Wallace.

It was announced back in 2015 that the pair's popular characters Kat and Alfie Moon would be taking centre stage in a six-part drama series, following their new life in an Irish harbour village full of secrets.

However, the big question regarding when the show will actually air has been rife among fans for many months now, as the date seemingly appears to have been pushed further and further back.

Initially we were told that it would hit our screens early 2016, then it was Autumn 2016, then early 2017- and now Shane has suggested that we'll finally be seeing it between March and April. About time, too!

Shedding some light on the situation during an appearance on The One Show last night (January 9), Shane revealed that not only are we likely to see it in the spring, but they also have plans to release an exclusive trailer on that very show.

He said: "We filmed it for five months last year and it will hopefully be hitting the BBC screens between March and April.

"Hopefully me and Jessie will be coming here to talk about it and hopefully show you an exclusive trailer. We are so excited about it."

The Moons are set to turn up in Redwater as part of Kat's search for her long-lost son, a story which began in EastEnders last year.
