Coronation Street's boss has teased a big story for Rana Nazir coming up this summer that looks set to explore her past.

Rana was introduced as a love interest for Zeedan early last year – having been brought to Weatherfield by his sister Alya, who was friends with Rana at university.

She ended up marrying Zeedan in the show's first ever Muslim wedding last year, but things have been relatively quiet for the character ever since.

However, producer Kate Oates has revealed that could all be about to change, as there is much more to be explored in terms of Rana's background.

"We'll get a deeper insight into Rana Nazir this summer," she said to Soaplife. "Why has this previously flighty woman settled for married life, and what secrets lie in her past?"

Some fans have been speculating about a surprise romance between Rana and her friend Kate Connor – ever since Faye Brookes revealed that her alter ego's new love interest would shock people.

Rana has been helping Kate come to terms with her dad Johnny's MS diagnosis, but whether that's the plot Corrie bosses are hinting at remains to be seen at this stage.
