Coronation Street has officially confirmed that Johnny and Jenny Connor will be the new owners of the Rovers Return.
The spoiler picture above offers a first look at the new dream team behind the bar of the iconic pub, as the Connors take over with support from newly-reinstated barmaid Liz McDonald.
Recent Corrie episodes have seen Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Henry Newton (George Banks) lined up as the next Rovers owners, but it turns out that their dreams all come to nothing.
Early next week, as Toyah and Leanne Battersby are preparing to leave the pub for the final time, Peter Barlow pops up and helpfully points out that unreliable Henry still hasn't signed the contract.
Henry is then forced to deliver some shocking news to Gemma, who's left devastated to realise that she may not become a landlady after all.
Despite an emergency trip to the bank to get the money together, Henry and Gemma are ultimately forced to step aside when Jenny and Johnny put in an offer of their own.
Scenes airing on Wednesday, August 8 see Peter give Johnny and Jenny the grand tour of the pub, but there's just one problem making life awkward – Liz (Beverley Callard).
With Liz working as a barmaid again, Jenny is thrilled to have her on board, but Johnny (Richard Hawley) fears it's going to be a terrible idea after their recent short-lived fling. Will this end in tears?
Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny, revealed: "Jenny and Johnny are now at a loose end, because they are not going to Spain and they have not got the factory because Johnny doesn't particularly want anything to do with the factory.
"But Johnny is a businessman. He is always looking for an opportunity and suddenly they are presented with the possibility of getting The Rovers, which Johnny thinks would be a great idea.
"Jenny is not up for this at first. Firstly she was supposed to be queen of the factory, secondly she was supposed to be swanning it up in Spain with the villa, the swimming pool and the beach-pine table, but suddenly she is going to be working in a poxy backstreet boozer. It's not what she had in mind for herself.
"But she recognises that Johnny needs this to take his mind off Aidan and her heart belongs to Johnny Connor, so she will do whatever makes him happy."
Jenny also smooths the waters with Gemma by offering her a job as barmaid, making sure she still gets a chance to move on from the kebab shop.
Sally Ann continued: "Jenny is pretty adaptable. She sulks for two minutes, then runs to the moon with the idea. As soon as Johnny persuades her about The Rovers, she goes for it big style and she starts to make all kinds of plans for it. She wants it to be a cut above everything else.
"The one spanner in the works is Gemma, because Jenny and Gemma are kind of sisters because they have both been brought under Rita's wing. She knows how much The Rovers means to Gemma and the thought of telling her is heartbreaking. Jenny can see the pain in Gemma's face and she feels really bad, but Johnny needs this more.
"Jenny offers Gemma a job thinking this will make it all better, which Gemma is not too happy about. But I am looking forward to working with Dolly behind the bar because it will just be chaotic and fun."
