They initially put it down to dementia. Would like to see this story run as I am dads full time carer and he has dementia and alzheimers there is so much can be written about the affect on them and their carers. No soap has ever done it justice but hollyoaks are great at hard uncomfortable plots

Diane Langton has confirmed an upcoming episode revolving almost entirely around her character Nana McQueen and her daughter Reenie.

Earlier this year, the McQueen clan were rocked by the arrival of Reenie's evil partner Pete Buchanan, who sexually abused Porsche when she was 15.

Although Porsche bravely spoke up in order to expose Pete's true colours, Reenie and the rest of the family have allowed themselves to be swayed by his charm and he has since developed an inappropriate relationship with teenager Cleo.

However, an emotional episode airing last year saw Nana open up to her grandson John Paul about being sexually attacked when she was younger and upcoming episodes will see her ordeal revisited.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Langton said: "We are going to revisit Nana's past soon, and it's very dark.

"I have also just filmed some epic scenes with Zoe Lucker - there is almost an episode entirely about her and Nana. It's very tearful."
Langton was interviewed by the magazine with her co-star Jorgie Porter in order to promote their nominations for Funniest Female at the Inside Soap Awards 2015.

Speaking about the nomination, Langton said: "We are thrilled to bits. It would be lovely to win but I am up against Jorgie, who is hysterical. We get on so well - put us together and it is chaos."

Hollyoaks favourite Nana McQueen is expected to return to the show next year.

Fans have been speculating about Nana's future since she made a low-key exit from the village last month, leaving without saying goodbye to her family.

While Nana has been known to come and go from the McQueen fold, viewers feared she had gone for good when she was later removed from the show's opening title sequence.

A Hollyoaks source has now exclusively told Digital Spy that Diane Langton's departure from the role of Nana is a break rather than a permanent exit.

Our insider said: "Diane Langton is a much-loved and respected member of the Hollyoaks cast, and her wonderful creation Marlena McQueen is a firm favourite with viewers.

"Diane is taking a well-deserved extended break and we hope to see Nana back on screen at some point next year."

Nana departed the village in the aftermath of her daughter Reenie's wedding, which saw Pete Buchanan's abuse of teenager Cleo exposed at last.

An emotional Nana struggled to cope with the guilt of not speaking out when she was abused herself, knowing that it could have prevented the chain that followed.
