Holby City newcomer Petra Letang has admitted that she was worried about joining the BBC drama following her previous role in EastEnders.

Letang played Sonya Fowler's lover Naomi Julien in EastEnders between 2005 and 2007, and has joined the hospital drama as healthcare assistant Adele Effanga.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Letang said: "I did worry about being typecast, and I know the public didn't take too well to my character [in EastEnders].

"But I hope viewers will like Adele, because she tells it like it is. You can't help but love her."

Letang's character Adele, who is also the younger sister of established character Mo, will make her debut on screen next week when she arrives at the hospital.

Letang said: "Mo and Adele are both feisty and very quick with their mouths. Initially Mo isn't even aware Adele is there - they bump into each other in the corridor.

"Mo assures Adele that she won't last because this is a serious job and Adele isn't a serious girl."

Holby City airs Adele's first scenes on Tuesday, January 14 at 8pm on BBC One.
