    Exclamation Naomi Canning

Morgana O'Reilly has been announced as the latest cast member to join Neighbours.

The actress will be playing Naomi, the estranged daughter of Sheila Canning who returns unannounced for a family reunion.

"When I was offered the role, I reverted back to my teenage self and was jumping and squealing," O'Reilly said. "I was so excited."

She added of her character: "Naomi is a lot of fun. But she's hiding a lot of secrets.

"It's going to be interesting to see the lengths she'll go to in order to keep these hidden - particularly from her mother!"

O'Reilly is a new regular for Neighbours and began filming scenes on the soap last month. She will arrive on Australian screens in March.

Colette Mann, who plays Sheila, said at the time: "We are going to know more about Sheila's family soon. We are starting to bring in her family over the next six months, so you'll hear some stories about them.

"Hopefully there'll also be a male coming in - an older male. But both of them Sheila doesn't get along with, of course!"

Neighbours, which is currently on its winter break, airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 in the UK, and weekdays at 6.30pm on Eleven in Australia.

Neighbours newcomer Naomi Canning could test one of the show's established relationships when she joins Ramsay Street, Digital Spy can reveal.

Late last year, it was announced that actress Morgana O'Reilly has been cast in the role of Naomi, who is Sheila's estranged daughter.

Naomi will be a new minx for the long-running soap and will shake up life in Erinsborough with some controversial behaviour.

When Naomi arrives on the street, she already has a history of relationships with unavailable men.

Once she settles in, it quickly becomes clear that Naomi hasn't learned any lessons from her past mistakes when she sets her sights on a married guy who lives on the street.

Fans know that Brad Willis, Toadie Rebecchi, Matt Turner and Karl Kennedy are the possibilities from the show's regular cast.

Ryan Moloney, who plays Toadie, has previously teased that his character could be tempted by another woman this year - but fans will have to wait and see whether he is the guy in question.

Moloney said last month: "One of Toadie's strengths comes from his integrity and standing up for what is right. I think cheating is the last thing he would do, but what a fall from grace it would be if he ever did! Besides, Neighbours is a soap, after all, and things have got to stay interesting - so there might be a hint of an affair somewhere..."

Naomi arrives on screen in Australia later this month and will appear on Channel 5 in the UK from early April.

A Neighbours insider told Digital Spy: "The producers were keen to introduce an Izzy Hoyland-style character who would stir up life in the neighbourhood. Naomi has a lot of issues to work through with Sheila, but it'll be her attitude towards men and relationships that will really get people talking."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 in the UK, and weekdays at 6.30pm on Eleven in Australia.

Neighbours' Sheila Canning will become suspicious of her daughter Naomi after she arrives unexpectedly.

As previously reported, Morgana O'Reilly has been cast in the role as Sheila's estranged daughter Naomi who will turn up in Ramsay Street hiding several secrets.

Sheila (Colette Mann) is delighted by Naomi's appearance and is desperate to repair their damaged relationship, but soon finds it increasingly difficult to stay out of her business, especially when she becomes concerned by her sudden interest in art dealers.

While confiding in Susan (Jackie Woodburne) over her doubts, Sheila reveals the reason why she believes Naomi hasn't contacted her in years - Naomi once had an affair with a married man and Sheila ended up contacting his wife.

Sheila later stumbles across Naomi's discarded sim card, but after she discovers her mum trying to reinstall the card to check up on her, Naomi is furious and accuses her mum of having learnt nothing from their previous fallout.

Desperate to make amends, Sheila later offers Naomi somewhere to stay until she gets her life back on track, to which she reluctantly agrees, but it is clear that Naomi is being far from honest with her mum.

It was previously reported that Naomi would test one of the show's established relationships after she sets her sights on another married man.

    Naomi & Toadie spoilers

    Escaping temptation
Naomi and Toadie take drastic measures to avoid their respective passions.

Toadie's principled reasons for taking on a particullarly confronting law case only serve to fuel Naomi's desire for him and when Sheila assassinates his character, Naomi shouts at her mother that she's still in love with him.

With her passion revealed, on this week's Neighbours, a shaken Naomi regretfully quits the law firm, thus sparking a tirade of abuse from Sonya, who finds it hard maintaining her always-tenuous faith in her husband's now ex-employee. Rather than hit back at her love rival, Naomi bus into Sheila's desperate distraction techniques.

As Naomi temporarily leaves Erinsborough to re-establish her equilibrium, Toadie is facing another crisis on the domestic front. Shocked to discover Nell is in control of the household iPad, with Sonya's permission, Toadie takes umbrage with his wife's choice to use the computer hardware as a digital babysitter.

As they clash over how much time Nell can spend on the tablet, the Rebecchis finally decide there's only one way to fix the problem - they'll have to undergo a 24-hour digital detox!

    Festival fears
The Erinsborough Festival is threatened when event organiser Naomi endures bribery and death threats.

Naomi's career as an events manager is blossoming at every turn, finally giving her the long-awaited hope that she'll ultimately be considered a valuable and respectable member of the Erinsborough community.

As Naomi (Morgana O'Reilly) forges full steam ahead with transforming her idea for an Erinsborough cultural festival into a reality, she's dealt a harsh blow upon discovering that the always publicity-hungry Paul (Stefan Dennis) has snatched the plans out from under her to run the event himself.

When Paul laughs of her offer to be the even manager, denigrating the position as nothing more than a glorified secretary, Naomi pulls out all the stops and is sson thrilled when a won-over Paul gives her the job.

As Naomi celebrates her fortunes with Brennan (Scott McGregor), he's quick to warn her of the pitfalls of such a powerful position and quietly despairs as Naomi good-naturedly ignores his advice, explaining that she's won over tougher men than Paul in the past.

However, she's soon tasked with proving that point when Paul successfully encourages Erinsborough newcomer and wealthy businessman Dennis Dimato (David Serafin) to sponsor the festival. As Naomi prepares to wow Dennis, an uncomfortable Brennan registers Dimato as a name he remembers from his detective days and armed with police confirmation that Dennis is definitely dodgy, quickly warns Naomi.

Sufficiently rattled by Brennan's information, Naomi reports back to Paul, suggesting that they reject Dimato's sponsorship offer to avoid negative press. When Paul supports the move, Dimato is outraged and angrily vows not to be shut out of the festival.

A fortuitous conversation with a proud Sheila (Colette Mann) leaves Dennis with the impression that Naomi has substantial sway over Paul and gives him the impetus to privately offer Naomi a hefty bribe to convince Paul to reinstate the sponsorship.

Against her better judgement, Naomi takes the cash but a consultation with a worried Brennan prompts her to return the cash. Nevertheless, Brennan is unhappy with the inherent danger she's put herself in and becoming riled, confronts Dimato, ordering him to give Naomi a wide berth.

Accosting Naomi soon after, Dennis makes it very clear that she'll pay for spreading news of his criminal act!

Channelling her fear into an attack on Brennan for making things worse, Naomi insists on handling the situation but Brennan can't trust that Naomi has the skills to thwart Dennis' threats and behind her back approaches Dennis' cook Phil Lloyd (Colin Masters) at Grease Monkeys and interrogates him for information about Dennis' criminal exploits, unaware that the conversation is being spied on.

To make matters worse, Paul reduces Naomi's festival duties given her "compromised" position and Phil is sacked soon after speaking with Brennan.

Finally accepting that she's buried herself in a deep and dangerous hole, Naomi helps the poilce build a case against Dimato despite increasing threats of retaliation from him.

When Naomi won't back down, Dimato zeros in on a more vulnerable target, a recovering Sheila, making it clear that her mother will be a dead woman if Naomi doesn't stop gunning for him.

Also ahead on Ramsay Street, Naomi Canning also finds herself in trouble when she gets on the wrong side of dodgy businessman Dennis Dimato.

As Naomi (Morgana O'Reilly) prepares a press conference to launch the Erinsborough Festival, Paul is approached by Dimato, who has recently inherited some properties in the area.

Dimato reveals to Paul that he wants to meet the main business people in Erinsborough and, sensing an opportunity, Paul suggest he sponsor the festival.

Although Dimato agrees, Brennan becomes suspicious after remembering his name and rings an old friend at the police department to enquire about him. Realising he has a dodgy reputation, Brennan warns Naomi, who then relays this back to Paul, suggesting they turn down Dimato's offer of sponsorship in order to avoid any negative press.

Dimato is naturally unhappy about this and urges Paul to change his mind but is knocked back once again. However, after attending the press launch and speaking with Sheila, Dimato decides to turn his attention onto Naomi in the hope that she can change Paul's mind.

Putting his new plan into action, Dimato offers Naomi a consultancy fee to put in a good word with the Mayor but when Brennan learns about Dimato's bribe, he urges Naomi to go to the police.

Not wanting to cause a drama, Naomi faces Dimato and hands back his money, insisting that she hasn't told anyone about it. However, the situation starts to get out of hand when Brennan decides to intervene and confront Dimato.

Furious that Naomi has clearly spilled the beans on their 'arrangement', Dimato later corners her and makes it clear that he is not happy. Has Naomi made an enemy?

As the pair flirt whilst doing yoga together, the attraction between them is more evident than ever. However, any thoughts of romance are put on hold when Matt Turner enlists Naomi's help in order for the police to build a case against dodgy businessman Dimato.

Happy to do her part, Naomi bravely cooperates with the police investigation, despite receiving veiled threats of retaliation if she goes ahead with it.

However, Naomi's refusal to be intimidated comes crashing down when Dimato sends a chilling message aimed at a more vulnerable target. Is Naomi's mum Sheila in danger?
