Coronation Street's Luke Britton will be charged with assault in the New Year after being provoked by two racists.

The ITV soap will be exploring the issue of racism with the arrival of new Underworld clients Justin and Dale Parker, who shock Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) with vile remarks about her religion later this month.

Alya chooses not to respond to the bigots' jibes, as she knows the factory desperately needs support from the Parker brothers to get back on track.

While Alya feels pressured into keeping quiet, Luke's response is very different when Justin and Dale call at the garage for help with a flat tyre and make offensive remarks to him too.

After Luke lashes out at the pair, he gets hauled down to the station for questioning and admits that he did assault them after being provoked by a string of racist comments.

Luke's admission leads to him being charged, and things only get worse when the garage is later targeted in a mystery break-in.

Alya and Luke are convinced the Parker brothers are behind the incident, and it also doesn't take a genius to figure out who might be responsible when Alya receives racist hate mail.

New lawyer Imran Habeeb points out the hate mail is important evidence which could help Luke's case, but will the true villains be exposed?

He won't. But he will be the cause of Corrie being taken off air as he will have murdered the whole cast by the end of 2020.

Could he not have survived this? I mean if Billy can survive the fall down that mountain after having been tied up in the boot of a car over night on a cold night ....

As we know though, even though he is dead now, it doesn't mean he is dead forever. He can always be brought back to life one day in an explosive storyline that will rock the cobbles.

Coronation Street's Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre) continues to avoid capture – after the shocking death of Luke Britton is finally revealed to his loved ones.

Following on from Luke's (Dean Fagan) murder in Friday night's (January 5) explosive episode, the police arrive on the cobbles to inform his nearest and dearest of his demise.

His devastated girlfriend Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) can't believe the news that his body has been found burnt in his car – and while Phelan isn't nowhere near considered a suspect, Alya does automatically assume it was the Parker brothers that committed the murder.

Alya immediately tells the police that she believes the attack was racially motivated, unaware that Luke's real killer is much closer to home.

And to make matters worse for the businesswoman, the press appear on her doorstep and hound her and the Nazirs for an inside scoop.

The residents then decide to hold a vigil on the Street to pay their respects to Luke, while murderer Phelan watches on.

Meanwhile, Seb finally becomes suspicious of Phelan after remembering the gun that he showed him – and becomes even more worried when he realises that Luke's car was discovered at the Mill.

Will Seb be the next to cotton on to what Phelan has done? After all, even Eileen is starting to suspect her husband of foul play...

Well done to Corrie for not having Dean's exit leaked before Luke's murder

I thought that to Tammy, not many storylines have me surprised as usually you’ve read about it before hand.

I liked Luke, shame he’s gone
