Emmerdale's Finn Barton has a life-changing moment next week as he meets his mother Emma for the first time since he was a baby.

Finn finally comes face-to-face with Emma after Harriet Finch successfully tracks her down and hands over her address.

Here, Joe Gill – who plays Finn – reveals what's to come and explains why the moment means so much to his character.

    Joe Gill as Finn Barton

How desperate is Finn to find his mother?
"Finn's had quite a tough year as so much has happened to him and his brothers. When Finn was almost killed in the car earlier in the year, it woke him up to the fact that his life could have been over without him ever knowing his mum.

"Finn really wants to find Emma and he's now more desperate for that than he ever has been. He feels that 22 years is more than long enough to have been without her, and if he doesn't track her down now, he won't be able to do it at all.

"Finn also doesn't feel that many people understand him. He's got a good relationship with Victoria and Ross, but there's not many people that he truly trusts. He's got a lot of associates in the village but not many friends. He feels that if he found his mum, he could have a really strong bond with her and also a bigger sense of himself."

How does Finn feel when Harriet gives him the news he's been hoping for?
"Well, first of all Finn is actually very grateful for somebody helping him in general, because he hasn't had that help from the rest of his family. Then when Harriet tells him that she has found the right person and the address, Finn can't believe it.

"As soon as Harriet does tell him that she's found Emma, one problem goes for Finn as he's tracked her down at last. But then there's another problem because Finn is left to wonder what Emma is going to be like, what's going to happen and what his brothers will think."

Is Finn nervous about meeting his mum?
"Incredibly! Beforehand he was all for it and really excited, but now the chance to meet her is right there in front of him, there's a bang of realisation that it's real now.

"Finn is incredibly nervous for all the right reasons. He was a baby when Emma left and too young to remember anything, so she is a complete stranger in his eyes."

How aware is Finn that the rest of his family don't want Emma back in their lives?
"Finn is aware that none of them are Emma's biggest fans, in particular James and Pete. Ross is also annoyed with Emma because he hasn't had the chance to know her, but Finn doesn't know the extent of all this and he doesn't know what they're keeping from him.

"Finn understands they don't particularly like Emma or want her back, but he doesn't know exactly what's happened in the past…"

How do Val and Eric react to Finn's decisions?
"Finn gets the information on Emma's whereabouts on New Year's Day, so he goes around to the barn to tell Val and Eric afterwards. They're both supportive, but Eric is slightly annoyed that he's come round after New Year's celebrations! But it says a lot that Finn has gone to them first out of anyone."

Finn will confide in Victoria, Val and Eric

Is Finn tempted to tell his family?
"He's stuck in two minds, completely. There are a lot of moments after he gets the information where he has the chance to tell his brothers and his dad, but you'll have to wait and see what he decides."

    So where does Emma live?
"It's strange because Finn really doesn't know what to expect. When he gets Emma's address, he Googles it straight away and sees what it's like. It ends up being a normal, everyday house and street. That surprises Finn because he doesn't know what Emma is like at all. He's been told various things about her, but from what he can see, everything is normal. It seems that Emma is living a normal life and might be a decent human being, so that gives him some hope."

Why does Finn take Eric, Val and Victoria with him when he goes to meet his mum?
"They're the people that he trusts most outside of his family. They don't have any family attachment to him, but they can see the situation from an outside point of view. Val and Finn also have a motherly-son relationship and she wants him to meet his real mother."

    Finn meets his mother

What can you tell us about the big moment that Finn meets his mum?
"I was very, very nervous on the day we filmed it because it's what the storyline has been building up to. You want to give that moment justice and I hope I did, but we'll have to wait and see.

"It was a long, tiring day and very emotional. They were great scenes to do, but very tough in the greatest way possible as scenes like those are the reason we're in the job!"

Emmerdale star Anthony Quinlan has revealed that his character Pete Barton is hiding a dark secret about his mother Emma.

Tonight's episode of the soap will see Pete and Ross reunited with their mother for the first time in years, when they meet her in a bar following Finn's successful attempt to track her down.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today (January 13), Quinlan said: "Emma has just come back into their lives because Finn has been searching for her for quite a few months.

"He met with her and wanted the other brothers to as well but they are reluctant to do so. Pete is harbouring quite a dark secret about his mother, hence the reluctance."

Executive producer Kate Oates has previously hinted that Emma could struggle to reconnect with her oldest son.

She said: "Pete is the eldest brother, so he saw some of the behaviours that Emma was maybe displaying. We do know that she'd had Finn by the time that she left.

"There's a bit of a troubled past with Emma there - maybe she suffered a bit of depression. Obviously there was a lot going on with her and James, and these things can exacerbate and build. Pete will have seen a certain side to his mum.

"Pete is also his dad's number one boy - he and James have such a nice bond. When Emma comes back, she's definitely got a much tougher audience in Pete."

Emmerdale will continue to explore the issue of HIV next month when Finn Barton meets a new love interest who has been diagnosed with the condition.

Finn (Joe Gill) will develop an attraction to a hospital nurse named Darren after Val Pollard suffers a shock health scare in upcoming episodes.

Next week, viewers will see Val rushed to hospital after she collapses at the B&B. This comes after she spends days ignoring flu-like symptoms, despite being warned that she needs to keep a close eye on her health due to her own HIV positive status.

Val's health crisis ends up being worse than anyone could have imagined and she is left fighting for her life, with Finn among those who anxiously wait for news at the hospital.

Despite the worrying circumstances, there is still some potential happiness on the horizon for Finn when Val's son Paul Lambert (Matthew Bose) returns in his mum's hour of need and notices a clear spark between him and Darren.

Emma and Finn find Val on the floor, unsure whether she is still breathing.

Charlie Hardwick, who plays Val, commented: "Finn is always looking for love and there's a handsome young nurse Darren at the hospital. Finn doesn't pick up on anything that Darren says, because Finn's gaydar isn't as good as Val's! Val's in a coma so she can't say anything! So Paul takes Val's place and points out to Finn, 'Somebody likes you'."

Darren will be open with Finn about being HIV positive, but viewers will have to wait and see if this affects their relationship.

While Paul is pleased with his matchmaking, Val won't necessarily be supportive of the romance if she pulls through.

Hardwick added: "Darren also has HIV and I think that would be a challenge for Val."

Emmerdale first began exploring the issue of HIV in early 2014 when Val was diagnosed. She contracted the condition after having unprotected sex during a holiday fling.

The ITV show has been credited for helping to increase the footfall at sexual health clinics since Val's storyline first went to air.

Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks is also currently airing a HIV storyline centring around the character of Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson).

Emmerdale's Finn Barton will start to see Emma's true colours next week when he finds out she stole Chas's passport.

Chas and James are preparing to go on holiday together, but Chas is concerned when she can't find her passport anywhere.

Finn is suspicious about Emma after finding a photo but will he work out she is also behind the missing passport?

Later, Finn (Joe Gil) will become suspicious about his mother after finding a photo and realises she was also responsible for the missing passport.

Emma is then put in a tight corner when Finn confronts her with Ross over Chas's stolen passport and struggles to see a way out of the mess.

Knowing the mugging was also a fake; Finn insists Emma come clean to James about the missing passport having been down to her, threatening to do it himself if she doesn't.

Emma is in a panic over what to do, until she overhears a suspicious conversation between Debbie and Ross.

Emma is in a panic over what to do but when she overhears a suspicious conversation between Debbie and Ross, she is delighted as she realises she now has the upper hand.

When Debbie later tells Emma it would be best if she didn't attend the engagement party, Emma warns her what she overheard and tells her she looks forward to seeing her there.

Emma is also relieved when Finn agrees to keep quiet, but it is clear she has still got a lot of unfinished business regarding James. What will she do next?

Emmerdale fans will see a whole new side to nice guy Pete Barton in the aftermath of his wedding day humiliation.

Pete marries his partner Debbie Dingle in next week's dramatic episodes, but the stage is set for fireworks at the wedding reception as his new wife's affair with his younger brother Ross is revealed.

Debbie's guilt is exposed in the most embarrassing of ways, as a secret recording of her discussing the secret relationship is played publicly at the village hall instead of the music for the first dance.

The show's sensational helicopter crash stunt soon steals everyone's attention in the aftermath, but Debbie and Ross's affair will still have huge implications of its own in the episodes to follow.

Anthony Quinlan, who plays Pete, teased: "The Barton family have had so many tests along the way - including the sibling rivalry and their mother Emma coming back. They've seemed to come back from it on every occasion, but I think this is probably the biggest thing so far.

"It'll be interesting to see the outcome. We can't divulge too much, but there are a lot of shocks along the way and I think people are going to be completely taken aback over what's to come over the whole week.

"Pete's always been very domesticated. He's always been the good boy, so it's great to be given the opportunity to show another side of him. When I read the scripts, it completely surpassed anything that I'd imagined. I had an inkling that it was going to get dark, but how dark it gets is beyond belief."

Quinlan praised the new direction for his character, insisting that it's right for him to potentially seek some revenge against those who have wronged him.

He said: "Personally I think there needs to be retribution for Pete. There needs to be repercussions, as he's been humiliated. He's invested so much time into Debbie and their relationship, but now his life has been turned upside down on what was supposed to be the happiest day of his life.

"Amid all of the disaster that's going on, there's a lot more that comes into it. Debbie and Ross have both done so much wrong. Personally I'd never be able to forgive either of them, but Pete is a different character so I don't know. Things could be resolved, or things could be blown up completely out of proportion!"

Emmerdale launches its disaster week on Monday (August 3) at 7pm on ITV.

So he survives the crash [

Oh dear - more bad news( unless something
happens to him after crash) - hes always seemed
like his mommas boy- even tho they tried to
make him "nice"- so no surprise if he shows his
    true colours!

Hoped for a bit of Barton clearout
James ( tho actor is capable of better than this
    role- and is leaving anyway)
    Pete - as above
Emma - mad-eyed is about it and character totally
    predictable!
Adam- trying to remain hopeful - he will go.

Finn& Ross - both ok because ones nice
( tho that doesnt suit some)
and other not(.that does seem to be popular)

Moira - now a Dingle-would be fine if she
returned to her original personality and
    Adam went!
