Channel 4 has acquired the UK broadcasting rights to Masters of Sex.
The drama, which will air on Showtime in the US, stars The Queen's Michael Sheen and True Blood actress Lizzy Caplan as pioneering sex experts Dr William Masters and Virginia Johnson.
Based on Thomas Maier's book Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the Couple Who Taught America How to Love, the 12-part series focuses on the married couple's research which revolutionised attitudes towards sex, as well as their personal struggles with success, betrayal and jealousy.
Channel 4 Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt said: "Masters of Sex is an incredibly classy period drama which provides a fascinating insight into scientific study of human sexuality. With compelling performances from Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan as Masters and Johnson, it's an unmissable treat."
Showtime picked up Masters of Sex for a full series last year, and premiered its first trailer in December.
Bridesmaids actress Wendi McLendon-Covey recently joined the cast as Dr Lillian DePaul, who shares a healthy rivalry with Johnson. Caitlin Fitzgerald, Nicholas D'Agosto, Teddy Sears, Beau Bridges and Margo Martindale also star.
Masters of Sex will receive its UK premiere on Channel 4 this autumn, shortly after it launches on Showtime.
