Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) will be one of the first to see Kirsty's nasty side after helping her out with childcare by offering to babysit.

When Julie has to leave baby Ruby in Sally's care unexpectedly one afternoon, Kirsty is furious that her friend has let her down.

Speaking to Soaplife, Gumede added: "Kirsty's incensed at Julie and at Sally. Julie comes back and Kirsty loses her temper and she throws a cup across the room. And that's when the mask starts to slip."

Corrie's Sunita Alahan and Stella Price fight for their lives in hospital in the aftermath of the Rovers Return fire.

When an arsonist targets the pub in tomorrow night's must-see double bill (March 18), Sunita (Shobna Gulati) and Stella (Michelle Collins) find themselves trapped in the inferno - to the horror of their loved ones.

Miraculously, both women are rescued from the blaze and rushed to hospital, where they lie critically ill.

A Coronation Street statement teased: "It's touch and go for both women as their devastated families pray at their bedsides for their recovery.

"And Dev is faced with more heartache when it's revealed that the fire was arson and Sunita becomes the number one suspect."

    Sunday

    Hour-long episode

Dev Alahan keeps vigil over Sunita
As Stella, Karl and Sunita are rushed to hospital, one is left fighting for their life. Jason is at Stella's bedside while Dev keeps vigil over Sunita, telling her how much he loves her and begging her to wake up.

As one casualty is confirmed, talk on the street turns to who may have started the fire. Jason is horrified as early investigations point to the fire starting with the electrics in the cellar.

Jason protests his innocence, adamant that he didn't cause the fire, but it's clear that Gloria and Eva reckon he's to blame. Convinced that Karl started the fire, Jason voices his suspicions, but Karl is being hailed as the hero of the hour.

At the same time, the doctor warns Dev to prepare for the worst as Sunita is unlikely to survive. Keen to blame Jason, Karl tells Dev about the initial findings. How will an emotional Dev react to the news?

Meanwhile, Eileen is worried when Paul insists on returning to work. However, when he is sent home, he admits that he blames himself for the death at The Rovers.

Jason's worried he may be accountable for the fire
Later, Jason quizzes Paul about the fire investigation, insisting that he can't be to blame as he did everything by the book. However, Paul disagrees and tells Jason that it's down to him that a friend is dead and Sunita is hanging by a thread.

Elsewhere, Julie tells Tina that she's had Ruby for the night as Kirsty had to attend to a family crisis. Tina reveals that Kirsty is lying as she saw her at Number 9 while The Rovers burned. Julie thinks Tina must be mistaken, but how will Kirsty react when Tina confronts her?

Later, Kirsty asks Julie to babysit, but when Julie suggests that she's finding it difficult to cope on her own, Kirsty takes offence and throws her out. Julie is bemused at Kirsty's sudden mood swing, but as Ruby cries in her cot, will Kirsty reach boiling point?

Also today, Roy and Hayley suggest Sylvia should join the One O'Clock Club. Initially Sylvia's against it until she realises it's a chance to fleece the others at the whist drive.

Finally, depressed Chesney refuses to go to work, but when Katy brings Joseph round for the night, he's cheered to see his son. Later, Ryan tells Katy that he misses her and suggests they go for a drink. Will Katy agree as Chesney watches on?

    Monday
As Tyrone's trial begins, the prosecution paint Tyrone to be an evil, calculating wife-batterer. Kirsty takes the witness box and lies through her teeth, telling the jury how she suffered months of violent abuse.

Outside court, Alison and Fiz beg Kirsty to tell the truth and not send an innocent man to prison. At breaking point, will Kirsty crumble?

Meanwhile, when the police call at the hospital and tell Stella that further evidence suggests the fire was started deliberately, Stella is pleased that Jason is off the hook. But if it wasn't the electrics, who started the fire?

Gloria wonders about Sunita as she had a grudge against Stella and it would explain why she was in the pub. As the police return to the hospital to talk to Dev, are they thinking the same?

Elsewhere, when Katy bumps into Chesney she tries to make conversation, but Chesney remains cold and points out that she's no longer part of his family.

As Tyrone's trial continues, Kirsty is relieved when Alison offers to leave her dad and move in with her to help with Ruby. However, she adds that in exchange, Kirsty must admit her lies. Will Kirsty agree?

Later, Kirsty is angry when she arrives home and finds Sally babysitting Ruby as Julie got called away. When Julie calls to apologise, she starts to see a furious Kirsty's true colours…

Meanwhile, Dev confronts Stella, Karl, Gloria and Jason, furious with them for pointing the finger at Sunita. He suggests that Stella started the fire herself. Later, Jason is unimpressed when Stella agrees that Karl can move into Number 13 with them until he sorts himself out. Seething, Jason tells the police that he suspects Karl started the fire.

Elsewhere, having spent the afternoon drowning his sorrows, Chesney hammers on the door of Number 6 demanding to see Joseph. Realising he's drunk, will Katy agree?

Also, Sylvia brings her new friends from the One O'Clock Club back to the café.

    Wednesday

Tyrone takes the stand and tells the jury how he was abused by Kirsty for months and how he fears she'll attack Ruby one day. Will they believe his version of events?

At the same time, Julie confronts Kirsty about her outburst. However, Kirsty loses her temper and slaps Julie. As Julie realises she's been duped by Kirsty, Ruby continues to cry at Number 9. On edge, will Kirsty lash out?

Meanwhile, Karl is enjoying himself at Number 13 as Gloria fusses round him, treating him like a hero. At the same time, the police question Stella about the pub keys, suggesting the arsonist used the spare set of keys to gain entry. Who has the keys?

Elsewhere, Paul and Eileen get ready to leave for the funeral of a friend.

Also today, Sylvia is enjoying new friend Stan's flapjack, but what is his secret ingredient?

Finally, Beth is annoyed when Kirk cancels their date, telling her he's promised to meet Chesney.

    Friday

Julie and Sean hear the sound of smashing glass from Number 9 and then silence from Ruby as she stops crying. Concerned, they rush round, but the house is empty with no sign of Kirsty or Ruby. Is Ruby in danger?

Later, as Tyrone's trial continues, Julie races to court explaining that she's got evidence proving Tyrone's innocence. Will the case against Tyrone be thrown out?

Meanwhile, the police search through Sunita's belongings and find the spare set of Rovers keys. Dev is shocked.

Elsewhere, Paul battles his emotions at the funeral of a friend.

Also, when Chesney sees Ryan chatting to Katy, he shouts at Ryan, telling him to stay away from his son.

Finally, Sylvia accepts another one of Stan's flapjacks when he insists it will alleviate the pain in her wrist.

There's pandemonium in the court as the truth about Kirsty is revealed, but where are Kirsty and Ruby?

The judge calls order and Tyrone is returned to the cells while the judge decides how to proceed. Will Tyrone be found guilty, or is the new information enough to free him?

Meanwhile, the police show the keys to Stella, who confirms they're the spares to the pub. Stella is shocked at the apparent confirmation that Sunita is the arsonist. Gloria is quick to gossip as she tells a horrified Eileen and Paul that Sunita started the fire. How will Dev deal with the news? And has Karl got away with the crime?

Elsewhere, Paul is devastated to learn that his friend's death may have been caused by a deliberate act of arson.

Also, Beth is furious to discover that Kirk is taking Chesney out instead of her. How will Eva react when Chesney gets drunk and tries to chat her up?

Finally, Sylvia phones Stan and places an order for more flapjack.

Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati has hinted that her character Sunita Alahan may not be mourned by many in Weatherfield.

Sunita is expected to die on screen early next month, but not before her reputation has been tragically tarnished as she is wrongly blamed for starting the Rovers Return fire.

Last week (March 18), viewers saw Karl Munro (John Michie) commit arson at the pub in a desperate bid to split up Stella Price and Jason Grimshaw.

Last Wednesday's episode (March 20) saw Sunita rescued from the blaze and rushed to hospital, where she lies fighting for her life with on-off partner Dev keeping a vigil at her bedside.

Back on the cobbles, meanwhile, the police launch an investigation into the fire, realising that the arsonist used the pub's spare set of keys to gain entry.

When the keys are discovered in Sunita's handbag, she immediately becomes the number one suspect - and she may not get a chance to clear her name before she passes away.

Speaking to journalists, Gulati teased: "They'll be calling me 'Sunita the sicko' and 'Sunita the psycho'. It's all happening!

"I went to see the new producer and he said, 'Sunita is going to be discussed for a long time to come, even after she's gone'. Obviously it might be resolved, but it might not be. We don't know."

Gulati also joked about her character staying on screen for longer than expected.

She laughed: "Honestly, people are going to start tweeting me saying, 'Are you not dead yet?' and 'When's she going to die?'

"Sunita is in ICU, so I've had eight episodes of lying down with tubes in my mouth. That's not very comfortable! You have to have a line in, and obviously it's not down my throat, but I had to grip it with my teeth and got jaw-ache filming the hospital scenes!"

Coronation Street continues on Wednesday (March 20) at 7.30pm on ITV

I think having Stella die also from Karl's arson act would be better

Corrie star Jennie McAlpine has insisted that the Rovers Return shouldn't get a revamp.

Last night (March 18), 10.3 million viewers watched a destructive fire rage through the iconic pub after scheming Karl Munro committed arson.

Speaking on Loose Women this afternoon (March 19), McAlpine admitted that she doesn't want The Rovers to look any different when it re-opens later this year.

Asked to reveal the improvements she would make, the actress replied: "Oh no, we need to do it up exactly as it was! We don't want another Nick's Bistro!"

She jokingly added: "I tell you why as well, drinks are very expensive there. Obviously while The Rovers has been burned down, that's where I've been going for my drinks, the Bistro. It's about another quid fifty for a pint! It's ridiculous!"

McAlpine's character Fiz Stape will feature prominently in another big Coronation Street storyline next week as Tyrone Dobbs's domestic violence trial begins.

Fiz is desperate for Tyrone (Alan Halsall) to be found not guilty so they can finally be happy together, but whether the jury will see through Kirsty Soames's twisted lies remains to be seen.

McAlpine explained: "There are two possible outcomes. One is that Tyrone is freed and one is that Tyrone is not freed. One is that Kirsty gets her comeuppance and one isn't. We'll see next week."

Coronation Street's trial storyline kicks off next Monday (March 25) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

Coronation Street villain Karl Munro continues his ruthless behaviour in upcoming episodes as he frames his former mistress Sunita Alahan for arson.

Earlier this week, over ten million viewers watched Karl (John Michie) set fire to the Rovers Return and leave Sunita for dead in the burning cellar.

Fortune seems to be working in Karl's favour in the next few days, as police decide that Sunita (Shobna Gulati) must have started the fire.

As Sunita was in the pub at the time of the blaze and had publicly threatened landlady Stella Price a short while earlier, it isn't hard for many local residents to believe that she was the culprit.

Making the most of this opportunity, Karl decides that he'll stop at nothing to ensure that Sunita takes the rap for the tragedy.

With Sunita still fighting for her life, Karl sneaks into her hospital room and makes sure that her fingerprints are all over the keys he used to get into The Rovers.

Afterwards, Karl places the keys in Sunita's hospital bedside cabinet with the rest of her personal effects. Will Karl get away with his terrible crime?
