Coronation Street star Helen Worth has admitted that her character Gail McIntyre will feel "torn" when Lewis Archer kisses her in the New Year.

In early 2013, viewers will see Lewis (Nigel Havers) make a move on Gail after declaring that he is infatuated with her.

Gail will have no idea that the conman is in fact plotting against her, wanting revenge after she broke up his relationship with her mother Audrey Roberts.

Worth told Inside Soap: "We know how easily Gail is influenced by a smooth-talking charmer! She's always had such bad judgement when it comes to men - she's so keen to be in a relationship that her heart forever rules her head.

"Gail would be horrified to think she was being duped. But she's so caught up in all the flattery - and her own guilt at having falsely accused Lewis of having an affair with Gloria - that she will now believe anything he tells her.

"That's how men like Lewis get away with conning woman after woman, even when they know what he's like."

Although Gail may have fallen for Lewis, she is surprised when he plants a kiss on her. Meanwhile, viewers will be left to wonder exactly what Lewis's long-term plan is.

Worth added: "Gail's really torn right now. She's a bit foolish and easily led, but she didn't wreck his relationship with Audrey for the wrong reasons. Gail thought Lewis was conning her mum. Sadly, she may ultimately be proved right - but at what expense?"

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday, January 4 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV1.
