EastEnders fans can expect an angry reaction from Lucy Beale when she discovers Joey and Lauren Branning's surprise romance.

Viewers have recently seen Joey call time on his relationship with Lauren due to his father Derek's blackmail. However, when Derek meets his maker at Christmas, it paves the way for the Branning cousins to reunite.

Just as the pair get back together, though, there is a further complication as Lucy (Hetti Bywater) witnesses them passionately kissing.

Well aware of how strongly Lucy feels about Joey following their on-off romance, Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) tries to explain herself to her friend. However, she ends up making everything worse by telling Lucy all about the car crash and how Joey took the blame.

Shocked by this deception, a no-nonsense Lucy heads straight to the police station and seems ready to turn Lauren in. Can she really go through with it? Will Lauren confess of her own accord? Or will Joey stop the truth from coming out just in time when he turns up?

EastEnders airs these scenes on Friday, January 4 at 8pm and 9pm on BBC One.

EastEnders fans can expect more twists and turns for Max Branning and his wife Kirsty later this week as they share a passionate kiss.

Max (Jake Wood) remains in a tricky situation in upcoming episodes, as it's clear that Kirsty still has strong feelings for him and isn't prepared to let him go.

Desperate to talk to her husband, Kirsty (Kierston Wareing) spots Max in the Square and they take a moment to speak privately. However, the conversation doesn't go well for Kirsty when Max declares that he wants her to leave Walford - and him - forever.

A livid Kirsty lets Max know exactly what she thinks of the way he's treated her, but the businessman stands firm by offering her the money for her train fare.

Soon afterwards, however, anger turns to passion for the pair and they end up in a surprise clinch…

When they go their separate ways again following their kiss, Max thinks that his problem is now resolved and Kirsty will respect his wishes by staying away.

Max goes to share the good news with Tanya, but unfortunately for him, Kirsty hasn't gone far…

EastEnders airs these scenes on Friday (January 4) at 8pm and 9pm on BBC One.

EastEnders' Joey Branning arrives back on Albert Square to support Alice in tonight's (January 3) episode.

Determined to be there for his sister, Joey (David Witts) attempts to comfort her as she remains grief-stricken over Derek's death.

Although Alice (Jasmyn Banks) is initially frosty towards Joey following his disappearing act, she later relents and encourages him to help her pick music for their father's funeral.

Joey must also deal with his unresolved feelings for Lauren now that he intends to stick around for good. Is there any hope of a brighter future for him?

EastEnders airs tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.

EastEnders airs a double bill of episodes centring around Derek Branning's funeral this evening (January 4).

As the low-key service gets under way, it's up to Cora Cross (Ann Mitchell) to give a speech about Derek's life in the absence of Carol, who is running late after finally discovering the letter from David Wicks that was hidden from her.

Cora offers some very honest words about Derek's nasty side and what everyone thought of him, but she also manages to put a positive spin on some of his antics.

With emotions running high on the day, it remains to be seen whether the gathering can bring the Brannings together or if it will only tear them further apart…
