Coronation Street's Tyrone Dobbs is terrorised by an unlikely source over the next few weeks, as his ex-girlfriend Maria Connor sends him a number of text messages pretending to be Kirsty Soames.

Shocked that twisted Kirsty could be targeting him again, Tyrone unknowingly gives Maria the reaction she was hoping for when he seeks her support over the worrying situation.

Here, Alan Halsall - who plays Tyrone - reveals how his character copes with the troubling times ahead.

Does Tyrone still have any feelings for Maria?
"Tyrone loves Fiz and for him it's as simple as that - he's completely committed to her. He adores Fiz and they've worked so hard to get to where they are now, so Tyrone loves Fiz and no-one else.

"He does have feelings for Maria, but only as a friend. He's fond of her - she was his girlfriend and he was in love with her, but not anymore."

How does Tyrone feel when Maria tries to kiss him this week? Is he worried about her state of mind?
"I wouldn't say he gets worried, but he does feel uneasy. He's shocked as he wasn't expecting her to try and kiss him, but Maria is so apologetic and mortified when Tyrone pushes her away that he thinks she was just not thinking straight."

Tyrone also has Kirsty to worry about, doesn't he?
"Yes, Tyrone is terrified now that he's heard that Kirsty has been released from prison. This woman terrorised him and almost ruined his life. Tyrone is scared that she's going to come for Ruby and try to ruin his relationship with Fiz."

How does Tyrone react when a toy for Ruby is pushed through the letterbox and he receives an 'anonymous' text?
"He automatically thinks it's from Kirsty and he's horrified. They barricade themselves in until Maria arrives. When Tyrone shows the text to Maria, she pretends she knows nothing about it and comforts him, secretly knowing it was her that had sent the text."

As the texts continue, what is Tyrone's biggest fear?
"When it comes to Kirsty, Tyrone will always be fearful. She's a dark part of his past that still haunts him and the thought that she might return and begin her mind games again is terrifying for Tyrone."

Tyrone actually confides in Maria about his concerns. Why does he talk to her rather than Fiz?
"Fiz hasn't handled this whole situation very well. She tries to call Kirsty and shouts down the phone at her, but Tyrone thinks that she's causing more damage than good and he doesn't want to worry her further when he receives another text.

"The only other person he can think of turning to is Maria. Obviously that's the wrong choice as it's really Maria behind the texts!"

How would he feel if he found out the truth?
"I think Tyrone would be shocked and appalled that his friend would put him through so much. He trusts Maria, she's his friend and I think he would feel completely betrayed.

"I don't know if Tyrone could forgive Maria for trying to break up his relationship or for pretending to be the one person that she knows he fears more than anything. Trust is a big thing for Tyrone and if he doesn't trust Maria, then I don't think he could ever feel close to her as he does now."

Do you think this is all going to end badly for Maria?
"Maria's in a dark place and isn't thinking straight. She's deluded when she thinks her and Tyrone would be happy together. I think this is going to end very badly for Maria. She's playing with people's lives and that's never going to end well, is it?"

Messages of support immediately began to come in from McAlpine's Coronation Street friends, including Jack P Shepherd (David Platt), Michelle Keegan (Tina McIntyre) and Tisha Merry (Steph Britton).

McAlpine and Farr have been together since 2005, when they were introduced by McAlpine's Coronation Street co-star Antony Cotton (Sean Tully).

The couple also have their own business as they have co-owned a Manchester restaurant called Annie's for nearly two years.

On screen in Corrie, McAlpine's character Fiz is already mum to a young daughter named Hope, who arrived in the show's 50th anniversary live episode in 2010.

I wonder if they write her pregnancy into a storyline - would be nice for Fiz and Ty to have a baby after the Kirsty and Maria drama

Coronation Street’s Fiz Stape is going to have the shock of her life when she returns to the cobbles - she finds her house being robbed!
Actress Jennie McAlpine has recently returned to work following the birth of her first child, and bosses have thrown her into the thick of the action.
She walks through the front door just as Tracy Barlow’s ex husband Robert Preston is trying to make off with her telly. He raids Tyrone’s house after mechanic Luke Britton gets caught up in a fake t-shirt scam. After Luke realises he’s been conned, he sets about getting his cash back from Robert
But that’s not the end of it when Robert turns up on the cobbles, bursts into Tyrone’s house where Luke is staying and starts taking things. As Tyrone and Luke try to put up a fight, Robert tells them: “See how you like it when someone barges into your place and robs you.”
Just as it looks like things are spiralling out of control Fiz walks through the door.
She shouts: “Hey, who are you? That’s my telly.” Once Robert has left, Fiz storms at Tyrone: “What kind of people have you been mixing with? How do I know they won’t be back putting bricks through the window or worse?”
And when she finds out the dodgy deal is all down to Luke, she sends him packing. Taking charge, she shouts: “You can pack your bags, after what I have just seen you expect me to trust you? I want you out.”

Coronation Street boss Stuart Blackburn has revealed that there will be a bitter-sweet nature to Fiz Stape and Tyrone Dobbs's Christmas storyline.

Fiz's daughter Hope is to be diagnosed with a life-threatening illness on the show, but that won't stop her family having "the best Christmas Day ever".

Coronation Street: Fiz Stape's daughter Hope to be diagnosed with cancer

In emotional scenes to be aired later this year, viewers will learn that the 5-year old has neuroblastoma - a highly aggressive form of cancer.

Speaking about the upcoming Christmas storyline, Blackburn said "the sadness is the fear that it could be Hope's last Christmas".

However, he also went on to say that Hope would have "the best Christmas Day ever".

Elsewhere, the ITV soap has cast an actor with Down's syndrome to play the nephew of Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill).

Producers found Liam Bairstow at a recent workshop they held for actors with disabilities, and the youngster has already started filming on the ITV soap.

Coronation Street's unlucky couple Tyrone Dobbs and Fiz Stape have hair-raising start to night-out
They're one of Coronation Street's unluckiest couples. And it seems that Tyrone Dobbs' (Alan Halsall) and Fiz Stape's (Jennie McAlpine) bad luck is set to continue after a well-deserved night out is ruined by a hair-raising drive in a pick-up truck.
The pair, who have had a gruelling year supporting Fiz's daughter Hope through a cancer battle, are seen all dolled up and ready to enjoy their evening out.
But things take a turn for the worse when Tyrone's new shoes get jammed under the pedals on the pick-up truck, sending him careering off for him to potentially hit a long queue of traffic.
He manages to break in just the nick of time - but it's sure to put a dampener on the couple's evening.
The two actors were spotted filming on location in Manchester getting into Kevin Webster's (Michael Le Vell) pick-up truck to celebrate the night-out. And while the night starts well, with Fiz smiling at her fiance, their happiness quickly turns to horror after realising Tyrone is losing control of the car.
Fiz looks startled and bites her nails during the scene, while Tyrone tries to take control.
Alan was suited and booted in smart grey attire for filming while Jennie wore a plunging red dress, covered up by a huge red coat to keep her warm during the night shoot.
The Street's hair and make-up team did a great job styling her up for the scenes, with her trademark red curls pulled in half-up half-down style, and her make-up set off by a smokey eye.
Alan, who has recently split up with wife Lucy-Jo Hudson, looked to be putting his heartbreak behind him as he was pictured in high spirits during the shoot.
Tyrone and Fiz have been one of the Street's favourite couples since they got together in 2012 after a harrowing domestic violence plot which involved the mechanic being abused by his partner, Kirsty Soames. Really???

And while the duo have enjoyed some happiness - they became engaged in last Christmas Day's episode - their time together has been blighted by Hope's illness and by Tyrone's mounting debts.

Exactly my thoughts. I am sick of Tyrone complaining of being skint when it was his doing in the first place
