His old Albert Square acquaintances Max, Tanya and Alfie find the barely-recognisable businessman sleeping rough on the outskirts of Walford.

When they return him to the Square, Tanya tends to a wound on his face, but worries about the fragility of his mental state.

    Monday

Tanya is still reeling following the discovery of a birth certificate revealing the existence of a sister she never knew she had. The situation is all the more frustrating because Cora seems reluctant to explain herself. Max becomes exasperated over Tanya's questions and searches for answers from Cora himself, but he has no luck either.

Later, however, Cora finally agrees to sit down with Tanya and explain everything. Cora is still unhappy that Tanya searched through her personal belongings, but informs her that Ava died just after being born. Tanya is unable to accept her explanation, confused over why Cora kept this a secret for so long. In the end, Cora loses patience and asks her to leave. Tanya returns later and finds Cora burning the birth certificate. An explosive showdown between mother and daughter follows, with Cora giving Tanya some harsh home truths about all the times she has lied and cheated herself.

Meanwhile, Masood is dressed to impress ahead of his job interview, and finally admits his plans to Zainab. However, Zainab is angry over his actions - not wanting him to sacrifice his salary and chances of a promotion in the postal service. When Masood returns from the interview, Zainab has been talked round by Syed and gives her blessing for Masood to go ahead with his plan. However, realising how much the wedding and Tamwar's course fees will cost, Masood lies that he didn't get the job - putting his family's happiness before his own.

Elsewhere, Syed's business is collapsing and he takes his stress out on Christian when he learns that Christian and Roxy have decided to enter Yasmin into a 'Walford's Top Tots' competition. Christian is shocked by Syed's anger as they have a blazing row, but he decides to enter Yasmin into the competition regardless of his partner's complaints.

Also today, Lola sweeps the streets of Walford as she takes part in community service following her recent misdemeanours, while Lucy encourages Whitney and Lauren to do some volunteer work with her in exchange for free gig tickets - but they're not keen when they discover that it will involve feeding the homeless.

    Tuesday

Lucy is looking forward to today's volunteer work with Lauren and Whitney. However, her plans are scuppered when everything goes wrong at the café, leaving her with a broken boiler and another bill to pay. The stress of the situation begins to take its toll, but Lucy eventually comes up with a quick money-making scheme with some help from Fatboy, Anthony, Joey and Ben. Lucy is pleased that she is managing to keep on top of things and deal with problems without the help of her father.

At the same time, Lauren and Whitney have gone ahead with the day of volunteering. Their final task is to take food to a hostel for the homeless. When they get there, Lauren is convinced that she recognises one of the homeless men - it's Ian Beale!

Meanwhile, Tanya is determined to get more answers about her sister, but Cora is still reluctant to talk to either her or Max. Later, Tanya begins to fear that Cora may have been right when she branded her selfish and manipulative yesterday, so she tries to ease her conscience by donating some spare food to the homeless shelter where Lauren is volunteering. In the end, Cora makes peace with Tanya following some words of advice from Lauren. Cora and Tanya are pleased to be back on good terms again, but is it really the last they'll hear of Cora's past?

Elsewhere, Kim is worried about her relationship with Ray as she fears that he can't be trusted, given that he has a number of missed calls from an unknown female on his mobile and has been lying about his whereabouts. But is Kim tackling the matter at the wrong moment when she confronts Ray in front of Sasha?

Also today, a mix-up on Jean's behalf leaves Alice wrongly believing that Anthony has feelings for her, Roxy lets slip to Syed that Christian has entered the baby competition against his wishes, but all is forgotten when Syed hears about the £500 prize money, while Zainab shocks her family by deciding to enter Kamil into the same contest.

    Thursday

Lauren and Whitney are shocked after spotting a dishevelled Ian at the hostel. With Lucy upbeat after getting the businesses back under control, the pair decide that they can't break the news to her. However, Lauren does confide in her parents about what she saw. Tanya and Max then ask Alfie to join them as they make their way to the place where Lauren spotted Ian.

At first, it seems that the journey is a huge waste of time, but they finally find a man sleeping in an underpass and are shocked to realise that it's Ian. Tanya, Max and Alfie try to clean Ian up before bringing him back home to Albert Square to be reunited with his family. However, it seems that the reunion won't be an easy one - now that she is finally finding her feet, Lucy doesn't seem as pleased to see her father as everyone had expected…

Meanwhile, Lola tries to get Ben and Jay's friendship back on track, having noticed the tension between the pair. Lola's efforts give the duo a chance to speak again, but they're only being civil for Lexi's sake. Ben is devastated when Jay remarks that their friendship will never be the same again following recent events.

Elsewhere, Michael reaches out to Alfie for support as he waits for Janine and Scarlett to come home. However, Alfie is distracted by Ian's problems and snubs Michael - leaving him more isolated than ever.

Also today, Anthony invites Alice out for a second date as he doesn't want to hurt her feelings - but Joey isn't pleased by the development. It seems that Joey and his father are on the same side for once when Derek vows to put a stop to the romance for good.

Cora Cross reluctantly opens up over her past as Tanya demands answers in EastEnders this evening (July 30).

Tonight's episode sees Tanya (Jo Joyner) remain in shock after discovering a birth certificate revealing the existence of a sister she never knew she had.

Although Cora (Ann Mitchell) is still furious with Tanya for snooping through her personal belongings, she provides an explanation by disclosing that Ava died just after being born.

Tanya is sympathetic towards her mother, but still cannot believe that she kept this a secret for so many years. As Cora loses patience with her questions, she can't resist giving Tanya some harsh home truths about all the times she has lied and cheated herself…

Ian Beale makes his return to EastEnders this evening (July 31) as Lauren Branning spots him at a hostel.

Tonight's episode sees Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and Whitney spend a day helping the homeless in exchange for free gig tickets, although they're not happy that Lucy has pulled out at the last minute due to a crisis at the café.

Towards the end of the volunteering day, a tired Lauren is asked to take some food along to a hostel and reluctantly agrees to carry out the task.

When she arrives with the delivery, Lauren is looking forward to heading back home - but she soon receives a huge shock as she walks past a dishevelled Ian (Adam Woodyatt)… Can the Walford businessman be saved from his desperate situation?
