Mother's day, a day on the 18th March where all Mothers are celebrated for the work they do on the upbringing of their children, whatever their background or status Mothers are showered with gifts from their beloved children. A day where they feel special and praised for what they do.

However, Mother's day can also be a hard one, for some people the emotional attachment it brings for having *that one parent, and the female role model In someone's life being lost or taken away.

Connie, when she was younger used to be one of these people, yes her mother was still around, yet she found it hard, not being able
to make her feel special, something that to her knowledge, everyone else was able to do on that day. Truth be told Connie never got to spend that much time with her Mum, something she still doesn't forgive her Dad for even now. *With him carting his beloved daughter of to her Grandma's, no, not because he wanted to, just because her Mothers depression got to much for him sometimes, and he then didn't want Connie seeing the bear brunt of it. You see no-one ever told her what was wrong, of course she asked, yes. Her Dad though just ignored her when she did.

Another thing; children in her class chatting about what they were planning to do that day, making their Mothers feel as special as they possibly can. 'Buying her breakfast in bed before school' or 'Picking out her *favorite flowers along with a box of chocolates' Connie felt like an outcast, it did cross her mind that maybe, someone in her class must have been like her, not being able to make their Mothers feel special when it mattered, but it didn't stay in her mind for long.

All she wanted to do, was thank her, a simple 'thank you' for everything her Mother had done for her. The clothes on her body, her education, food on the table, sheets on her bed, to just say those three words, three words that could mean so much. 'I love you' She couldn't even do that, either because she wasn't around or when she was, for fear that something may happen, in the very fragile state Connie sometimes saw Mother in, which upset her so that much ,she'd nine times out of ten hide in her bedroom, letting rivets of tears fall.

Now though, it's different. Becoming a Mother herself, has really shed light on how important 'Mothers day' is.

Theres no denying the fact, she still, to this day finds it hard, not being able to give something back to her Mother. *All those failed Mothers days, the ones she'll never be able to make up for, all the attempts, the built up courage, when the day or time came for Connie to be able to say 'thank you' and 'I love you' *for *it never actually happen, her confidence dashed once again.

Her mother crossed her mind on a day like today. The way if she was still alive, she'd thank her, everyday. Make her feel special just like she'd always wanted to. The words 'I love you' would spill out her mouth, with it not even having to be thought about.

She didn't dwell on it for too long though, she had her own mothering duties to attend to. *

Receiving her card, made at school and a few presents from Grace, that sunny Mother's day morning at around 8am, Connie couldn't help but smile. Grace had the opportunity to do something Connie never could with her Mother.

Give a *gesture of appreciation and love.
