Over on EastEnders, Walford minx Mandy Salter struggles with the arrival of her mum Lorraine - but finds an unlikely ally in Lucy Beale.

Lorraine (Victoria Alcock) causes chaos upon her arrival in Albert Square as she drinks heavily, steals money from Ian's wallet and makes a number of hurtful remarks towards Mandy (Nicola Stapleton). Unfortunately for Mandy, Ian is oblivious to Lorraine's true colours and insists that she must stay.

When Lorraine later joins the Beales for a family meal at the Argee Bhajee, Lucy (Hetti Bywater) becomes increasingly annoyed as she realises that the outspoken alcoholic isn't just bullying Mandy but is manipulating Ian (Adam Woodyatt) too.

Lucy soon takes matters into her own hands by revealing that Lorraine has stolen cash from Ian. Ian is shocked by the revelation and makes his displeasure clear, but when Lorraine bites back by mocking Mandy and Ian's relationship, Mandy sees red and throws a drink in her face!

ax and Tanya still aren't communicating properly about the problems in their marriage. When Tanya receives a home visit from the nurse, she explains how her physical relationship with Max has been extremely affected by her cancer treatment. The nurse advises that Tanya's wisest move would be to have an honest conversation with Max. Later, there is an awkward mood between Max and Tanya when they head for a meal at the Argee Bhajee - and Tanya fails to be honest with Max once again.

As the couple leave the restaurant, they pass a drunken girl lying slumped in the gutter - completely unaware that it's Lauren, who has been hitting the booze at the R&R and offending her friends with her wild behaviour. When Fatboy and Whitney find Lauren, they take her back to the Butchers' house to sober up. However, Whitney is horrified when she sees Lauren passed out on the sofa in the same place where Billie died, so she rushes off to get Max and Tanya. When Tanya sees the state that Lauren is in, she fears that her family is falling apart…

Meanwhile, Janine and Michael return to the Square following a weekend away and immediately organise an engagement party in The Vic for that night. However, the celebration soon turns sour when Michael hears from Bianca that Janine doesn't plan to take his surname. He is irritated further when Janine informs their guests that she's insisting on a pre-nuptial agreement. Later, Jean tries to warn Michael that Janine is dangerous, but he argues that he can look after himself. After giving a speech at the party about how his marriage will be full of 'danger and surprises', Michael whispers to Janine that this is just the beginning. Is Michael planning something?

Elsewhere, Tamwar refuses to accept a penny of Yusef's money, Mandy fears that Lorraine will drink heavily at Janine's engagement party, and Afia looks up a plastic surgery website for burns victims - leaving Tamwar fearing that she is sickened by his scars.

    Tuesday

After resolving to give Yusef's money away to a good cause, Zainab wants to attend a Khatam to pray for a fresh start for the Masood family. Fatboy agrees to hold the fort at the restaurant while they are busy, but as he does so, he finds a leaving note from Tamwar to Afia. Leaving another waiter in charge, Fatboy rushes off to tell Zainab, who manages to catch her troubled son before he gets on the tube. Tamwar ultimately agrees to stay, but an argument breaks out between him and Afia back home. Suddenly, Zainab breaks down - confessing that Tamwar's injuries are all her fault as she sent Yusef back into the burning B&B at Christmas...

At the same time, Christian is back on Albert Square, but he's not pleased when he realises that he won't be invited to the Khatam. Having earned a decent sum of money during his time away, Christian suggests to Syed that they could buy Amira out of the business. However, Amira makes it clear that she isn't going anywhere. When Christian accuses Amira of using Anthony as a smokescreen to stay in Walford, she's hurt and decides to consummate her new relationship back at the Moon house.

Meanwhile, Max tries to ground Lauren for her wild behaviour the previous night, but she insists that she's old enough to do what she likes. Later, at the café, Lauren also hears stern words from Whitney until Max arrives and summons her home. As an argument follows between Lauren and her parents, she ultimately announces that she is moving out and asks the Moon boys if she can stay with them.

Elsewhere, Lorraine steals cash from Ian's wallet and threatens Mandy to keep quiet about it, while Kim and Denise are unhappy when they realise that the Masoods won't be handing Yusef's money over to them.

    Thursday

Afia is furious with Zainab and tells Tamwar to take off his shirt so that his mother can see the damage she's done. As Afia storms off, a guilty Zainab tells the whole story of how she sent Yusef back into the burning building at Christmas, wanting him to suffer for everything he'd done to her. Masood stands by Zainab, pointing out that the Koran recommends forgiveness for those who defend themselves after being wronged. Zainab then speaks to Afia alone, begging her not to blame Tamwar for any of this.

Suddenly, the drama at the Masood house is interrupted when Christian arrives with news that one of the waiters at the restaurant is having a nervous breakdown. As the family rush off to deal with the situation, Syed asks Christian to stay behind and look after Zainab. Crying hysterically, Zainab confesses everything to Christian, before asking him whether he truly loves Syed. Later, Syed is stunned when he returns to find Christian holding Zainab's hand. In the end, it looks like a fresh start for the Masoods is on the cards as Zainab invites Christian to dinner, while Tamwar and Afia agree to work on getting their marriage back on track.

Meanwhile, reality has struck for Amira as she tells Lauren that she needs to stop pretending that everything is okay, when she's actually unhappy. Despite Anthony confessing his genuine feelings for her, Amira decides that it's time to leave Walford. Amira soon shares her plans with Syed, admitting that she finally accepts that he doesn't love her. She asks Syed to look after Yasmin while she goes away for a few days, before getting into a taxi and departing Albert Square for good.

Elsewhere, Denise and Kim receive a shock as Zainab sends them a £100,000 cheque to make up for the devastating B&B fire.

    Friday

Mandy suspects that Lorraine has been drinking again and is more determined than ever that her mother should leave the Square. However, Lorraine is smug when Ian insists that she hasn't outstayed her welcome. Later, Mandy finds the Beale house in a state, with Lorraine lying passed out next to a half-empty bottle of vodka. As mother and daughter have a row, vicious Lorraine grabs Mandy's face and spits that she doesn't have a likeable bone in her body. Listening into the argument, Lucy is shocked by how nasty Lorraine is being towards Mandy.

As the day continues, Ian decides that a family meal at the Argee Bhajee could help to relieve some of the tension. However, Lucy feels sorry for Mandy at the restaurant and steps in by telling Ian that Lorraine stole money from his wallet. When Ian confronts Lorraine, she turns nasty with him in return - which prompts a furious Mandy to throw a drink over Lorraine. Back at the house, Ian orders Lorraine to leave. However, before Lorraine goes, she warns Ian that Mandy has been down the aisle many times and he should get out now before it's too late. Despite himself, Ian can't help but wonder whether Lorraine is right about Mandy…

Meanwhile, Syed tells Zainab that Amira has called and she will be taking Yasmin back tonight. He also thanks his mother for making progress with Christian. Later, Afia and Tamwar have a quiet night in together, as Zainab, Masood and Denise have agreed to hold the fort at the restaurant. Tamwar is still paranoid about his scars, but Afia shows that she's comfortable with the situation when she offers to apply her husband's cream for him. It seems that the couple are getting back on track.

Elsewhere, Shirley's behaviour backfires as she continues trying to keep Heather to herself, while Lauren continues with her quest for independence, but it's clear she is struggling with life away from her parents.

EastEnders star Nina Wadia has said that she is pleased her character Zainab Masood will soon settle her differences with Christian Clarke.

Zainab has big episodes on the way next week as she finally confesses that she deliberately sent Yusef Khan back into the burning B&B at Christmas, which leaves her family stunned.

The revelation also has an unexpected consequence as Christian (John Partridge) becomes an unlikely ally for Zainab, who spent many months disapproving of his relationship with her son Syed (Marc Elliott).

Wadia told All About Soap: "Johnny and I have been waiting for this scene for ages. Ever since Christian saved Masood from the fire, Zainab's seen him in a very different light - and she's realised that Christian is a good person.

"She sits with Christian and tells him she wants to be forgiven, and he says that he forgives her for the way she's treated him in the past. This is a big eye-opener for her and she realises just how much her actions have hurt him."

Asked whether the pair will be friends now, she replied: "Hopefully! They could go shopping together and Christian could give Zainab a makeover. I really want a Jessie J bob, so maybe he could find a way to make that work for her!"

Meanwhile, a separate development for the Masood family will see Amira (Preeya Kalidas) leave Walford next week as she finally accepts that Syed will never love her.

Discussing whether Zainab will miss Amira, Wadia replied: "Yes, she will. She feels that she did wrong by Amira because she let the wedding go ahead even though she knew Syed was gay. Amira's never discovered the truth and she would hate Zainab if it came out."

EastEnders airs Zainab and Christian's heart-to-heart and Amira's exit on Thursday, March 8 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
