    MONDAY

Ben is thrilled that Phil is back behind bars and when DCI Marsden offers him protection should he receive a backlash from the rest of the Mitchells, the troubled teen insists that he isn't going anywhere. Soon afterwards, Ben chats to Abi and confesses that he is responsible for Phil's woes after shopping him in to the police. However, when Ben receives an earful from Shirley and Jay back home, he lies to the pair - insisting that he didn't say anything to the police which could get Phil into trouble.

The Mitchell family are torn over whether Ben is telling the truth or not, and the pressure intensifies as DCI Marsden arrives to announce that Phil has been charged with murder. Shirley soon decides that Denise must be the new witness and decides to confront her, but Denise insists that she doesn't know anything. Later, the game is up for Ben when Abi lets slip the truth during a conversation with Jay. When Ben is confronted by the family back at home, he finally confesses - prompting Shirley and Jay to throw him out.

Meanwhile, Zainab is desperate to get Afia and Tamwar back on good terms, so she organises a family lunch. Amira decides to invite Anthony to the meal and he spends the entire time telling lies in an attempt to impress the Masoods. Zainab is left disappointed when Tamwar remains silent throughout the meal and it's clear that her latest plan hasn't worked.

Elsewhere, Max loses his cool with Lauren despite Tanya urging a gentle approach, Jane starts to have doubts about the move to Cardiff but ultimately tells Gethin that's she in, Lucy grows suspicious when Mandy takes a number of phone calls in private, while Tanya is keen to test Lauren's resolve - so she tells her that she can quit school as long as she starts work at the salon

    TUESDAY

Ben has slept in The Arches after being kicked out by the Mitchells. Well aware of the problems in the family, Derek decides to use the situation to his own advantage - buying Ben breakfast at the café, sharing tales of his wild past and even giving the teen money and a jumper to make his life more comfortable. Unbeknown to Ben, Derek also swipes his keys to The Arches and he heads to the garage to snoop through the books.

Later, Phil is shocked when Derek pays him a visit at the prison. As Derek points out that Phil's family is falling apart back on the Square, the pair go head-to-head in a battle of wits. However, with Derek piling on the pressure, Phil is soon left with a huge decision to make - accept Derek as a partner, or run the risk of Derek taking his whole empire by force. What will Phil do?

Meanwhile, Jane tells Tanya that she has decided to accept the job in Cardiff. Later, the pair meet for a drink at The Vic and Jane admits that she is still having some doubts about leaving Walford. However, Tanya misinterprets what Jane is saying and mistakenly believes that her friend has changed her mind and isn't going after all. Noticing Tanya's obvious relief, Jane doesn't have the heart to tell her the truth.

Elsewhere, Ben finds support from Ian and agrees to move in with him, Ray arrives back on the Square and offers to cook dinner for the Butchers, but he annoys Bianca by revealing that he has a daughter, Lauren's first day at the salon doesn't go well when she offends a customer and is sent home early, while Kat takes time out from the Square to look after Charlie after hearing that he's had a stroke

    THURSDAY

Jane still can't pluck up the courage to tell Tanya the truth about her plans to leave Walford, so she keeps up the pretence that she's staying. Soon afterwards, Tanya asks Jane to accompany her as she attends a follow-up appointment at the hospital. Jane agrees to join her but continues to feel guilty about hiding her plans from Tanya.

Later, the pair head to The Vic together and Tanya confesses that she attended the appointment to get some advice on sex, because she fears that Max could cheat on her as they're not currently sleeping together. Jane continues to be a supportive friend as they chat, but the mood turns sour when Masood joins them and blurts out that Jane is still leaving. A shocked Tanya immediately storms out and when Jane later tries to make amends, she is cruelly dismissed by her friend. Losing her temper, Jane gives Tanya a piece of her mind - and their friendship is left in tatters.

Meanwhile, Mandy wants to prove that she can be a good mother figure to Ian's kids, but she's left disheartened when Bianca gives her some home truths about the unglamorous life of a mother. Determined that her life won't be like Bianca's, Mandy asks Ian for a car and quickly manages to get her own way. Later, Mandy is forced to ask Jane for help when Bobby locks himself in the house - fearing that Mandy doesn't want him around. Mandy is relieved when Jane advises that Bobby doesn't need another mother and will only need her to be his friend.

Elsewhere, Derek's plan to control the Mitchells' businesses starts to unfold, Lauren is left with a new-found respect for Max after she joins him for a day of hard graft at the car lot, Bianca is livid when Ray introduces Morgan to his daughter Sasha, Lucy remains suspicious over the phone calls and texts that Mandy is receiving and tries to investigate, while Shirley is furious when she sees what Derek is doing and vows to see Phil to find out what is going on

    FRIDAY

Jane is thrilled when her family organise a leaving lunch for her, but the celebration is tinged with sadness when Tanya doesn't show up following their row. Over at the Branning house, Tanya is feeling guilty about the argument but is unwilling to swallow her pride and make things right.

Later, Ian discovers that Ben is the key witness in the case against Phil, so he begs Jane to stay as he needs her support. When Jane talks to Ben, her feelings of guilt intensify as the troubled teen says that she's the only one who listens to him. Towards the end of the day, the Square's residents throw a surprise farewell party for Jane at The Vic. However, with Ian, Ben and Tanya all on her mind, the pressure becomes too much for Jane - so she announces that she can't move away and rushes out. Will Jane change her mind or has she given up on her dream job?

Meanwhile, Fatboy loses his job at the car lot as Max is unable to pay both him and Lauren. However, Tyler steps in and offers Fatboy a job at the antiques emporium instead. Later at The Vic, Fatboy grows increasingly paranoid that there is still a spark between Whitney and Tyler. Keen to prove himself, he announces his love for Whitney over the microphone - but when she returns the gesture, it's clear to Fatboy that she seems unsure.

Elsewhere, Shirley finally manages to get Phil to see her, but she is shocked when she realises he is aware of everything she has been trying to protect him from. Wanting to make amends, Shirley asks Phil what he wants her to do to make things right - but his request isn't easy.

Also today, Mandy is left feeling rattled as Lucy makes it clear that she knows she's hiding something.

We all knew she could rustle up a Full English in the cafe and even turn her hand to some tasty pub grub for the Vic, including her recent “bangers and mash, give us your cash” charity fundraiser.
But who was to know Jane Beale was the champion that never even made it to MasterChef?

Or in the words of her pushy pal Tanya, “Long time dead, Jane. You could be the next Nigella Lawson”.

At least she has the good grace to saucily answer, “Oh, please. Nobody sucks on a strawberry quite like her.”

But the amply proportioned top chef Gethin Williams – obviously no stranger to the occasional hog roast himself – is so sure of her talent he wants her to join him as his sous chef in Cardiff. So it could well be goodbye to Walford.

Ironically, in a comical and tearful series of events, Tanya, Jane’s ex-husband Ian and Masood try to dissuade her from going. And come her leaving do on Friday, Jane tells Gethin she can’t accept the job.

Will she change her mind? Well, when she jumps up in the Vic and declares she’s going for a leek, don’t expect to see her heading for the ladies’ lavatory…

As far as birthdays go, Walford crimelord Phil Mitchell has probably had a lot better. But at least the celebrations yesterday turned out to be what his moll Surly Shirley wanted – “a nice, happy family day”. Not…

Phil’s bent solicitor Ritchie Scott turned up with the present of a plane ticket to Portugal and orders to flee as the police had plans to nab him. While vindictive DCI Marsden arrived with a squad of boys in blue and a warrant for his arrest.

And son Ben handed over a card in a telltale black envelope and leered, “Happy birthday, dad”.

Opportunist Derek visits Phil in prison

Well, Phil can always look on the bright side. At least it saved him from whatever slobbering delights Shirley had in mind to round off the day.

But Ben turning into a stalker who tried to fit up his dad for the deaths of a homeless man, Kevin Wicks and now Cruella Stella might seem like extreme behaviour – and all because Phil didn’t like musicals and couldn’t accept his son’s gay.

As if being locked up for Stella’s murder and his family falling apart wasn’t bad enough, Phil gets another shock on Tuesday. After befriending the outcast Ben in the cafe – well, it seems he’s anybody’s for a Full English – Derek Branning decides there’s an opportunity for social advancement.

And he goes to Phil with an offer – either they become partners in crime, or Derek conquers the Mitchell Empire by force.

Take Shirley off Phil’s hands and he might have a deal…

Mandy may have got away with her drunken behaviour last week, but stroppy teenager Lucy still slyly drops poison in dad Beale The Squeal’s ear and continues to undermine her.

There again, why is Mandy making so many phone calls and why does she persuade gullible Ian to buy her a car?
