From his recent charitable endeavours to the surprise success of his album debut, we'd forgive Olly Murs for feeling a little smug at the moment - and after a pair of jaunty, reggae-pop smashes, he's taken a traditional third-single-ballad approach for his latest chart botherer. What's more, it sounds like he's been taking notes from bezzie mate Robbie and his fellow bandmates.
Penned by James Morrison and Alanis Morrisette/ Kelly Clarkson hitmaker John Shanks, 'Heart On My Sleeve' is a piano and strings affair coupled with a hearty double-drum beat reminiscent of many a X Factor winner's single. While Murs does his best Barlow impression by supplying an emotional vocal, the result is an ear-pleasing but overall uninspired offering that might show another side to the cheeky chappy with the jazzy hats, but as any certified mechanic will tell you, if it ain't broke.
