EastEnders is in a poor state.

*Beware this post is one massive rant*

I don't want to moan too much, but I've watched EastEnders for years and at the moment, it has to be in the worst state I've seen it in. What on earth is going on? The storylines are unoriginal... everyone seems to be having an affair or just sleeping with someone... this is not entertaining to watch! What happened to the storyline with the Golds? ... It was revealed Jodie wasn't Harry's daughter, should we have cared? Because I didn't really. The 'duff duffs' have been awful recently. Jack and Max going off together to 'sort out' Harry ala the Mitchell brothers didn't leave me wanting to see more! Now Harry seems to have disappeared. Is he coming back? Because I thought he was meant to be this scary new villain!

The characters are all over the place... Jane seems to have had a personality transplant and is not the character she's been like in the past!

The pacing is all over the place - some characters we don't see for weeks, then they pop up again with a story, like the Beales for example! There is no consistency. If we don't see characters for a number of weeks, then they return on screen with their story.. how are we meant to care what happens to them?

The stories are all terrible at the moment. Unoriginal. Uninspiring. Jay becoming a 'Mitchell' with him flooring Connor lol!? Oh please! I did have to laugh at that... so cringey. Then we have this ongoing Ryan/Stacey/Janine stuff ... Janine's character is being ruined by this story!

The continuity is terrible. Nobody seemed to have been affected by the Queen Vic fire. Stacey was trapped in the fire with her baby, but a few months later she's back working behind the bar as if it never happened! Phil seems to be over his drug addiction.

The comedy is hit and miss. Sometimes it's cringeworthy and has obviously been shoehorned into the script!

EastEnders is turning into a joke.

Please add your own thoughts. Feel free to disagree etc.

I think Tuesday's episode is going to be my last one. Please someone let me know when it's got better.

I have to say I didn't notice that EE had gotten worse until I watched the omnibus. It isn't too bad on each half hour stretch but the omnibus does get a bit tedious.

I think it goes through phases of being good or bad. Hopefully this is one of them!
Peter: So how many are there? Is it bad? Olivia: Did you eat? Peter: Yeah. Olivia: Well, that's unfortunate.

Dare you to post that on DS Davy. You would set the trolls off on one.

Each time EE gets a new producer he is lauded as some sort of Messiah who is going to perform all sorts of miracles.

My opinion of EEs problem lies with the muppets who write the scripts. They are all a bunch of luvvies who have absolutely no idea of real life let alone the East End of London. One luvvie writes scripts for a couple of weeks and concentrates on his or her agenda and the characters they think are important. Along comes anothe luvvie a couple of weeks later and starts writing another set of scripts based on their agenda and with little or no reference to the previous luvvies scripts. That is why characters change fro week to week and storylines stop and start. There appears to be no continuity

Davey I agree with what you have said but as it is the only soap I watch, I will keep watching it.. EE has gone through some tough times and has bounced back time and time again. I think it was Alan or Parkerman that said, at the moment, why compete with Corrie's 50th anniversary, everyone is watching that. Let the stories build up and come to a big crash

Maybe Davey was not talking about recent storylines but the whole of this year which has left a lot to be desired, compared to Corrie and Emmerdale

I am enjoying the return of Kat and Alfie and the Massods but that is it everything else is boring especially the Ryan and Stacey affair

In regards to the whole year, there has been the odd standout episode which has been brilliant - the New Year's Day episode, the live episode, Peggy's exit and Billie's death have probably been the best episodes of the year for me. But storylines and characterisation has been very poor. Archie's murder plot was all hype and no substance. Saying that, the live episode was good and revealing Stacey as the killer was shocking, but it's ruined her character in the long run and has undone all her character development... Stacey is no killer. It's a shame..

As for letting stories build up and waiting for them to come to a big crash, well it feels like no story is doing that at the moment.

I stopped watching EE very early in the year when the likes of Billy and whatsherface, Shirley's niece, were dominating the screen time. I found them so annoying.

Billy Mitchell is one character I really detest. He's always moaning about his life yet does nothing to resolve the situation.
    Thanks CrazyLea
