Neighbours' Jackie Woodburne will be named Best Daytime Star at tonight's Inside Soap Awards.

The shortlist for the Inside Soap Awards 2015 was announced last week, ahead of this evening's ceremony (Monday, October 5).

Woodburne, who has played Susan Kennedy since 1994, beat Doctors actress Elisabeth Dermot Walsh (Zara) and Home and Away's Ada Nicodemou (Leah) to the prize, as well as her co-star Stefan Dennis (Paul).

Speaking about her triumph, the actress said: "Karl and Susan have been in the show for 21 years this year, so to get this award is amazing!

"I've been so lucky to play such a great character. Ryan Moloney (Toadie) won this award a few times, so I think it's nice for the old girl to get a go!

"We love coming to the UK as the audience here are so supportive of Neighbours. I'm sure we wouldn't be still on air without our loyalty of the UK. Thank you so much."

Lincoln Younes picked up the Best Daytime Star trophy last year for his portrayal of Casey Braxton in Home and Away.

Other categories at this year's Inside Soap Awards include Best Family, Best Storyline and Best Soap, while new categories this year include Best Shock Twist and Best Show-Stopper.

EastEnders and Emmerdale lead the way with 16 nominations each, while Coronation Street and Hollyoaks have picked up 14 nods.

The rest of the winners will be revealed later tonight.

    Congrats Jackie

It was a victorious night for Emmerdale at Wednesday's Broadcast Awards, as the ITV serial beat EastEnders and Coronation Street to win Best Soap.

Casualty, Holby City and Hollyoaks were also shortlisted for the prize, but it was Emmerdale's "top form" that took it home.

Judges deemed that the big stunt episodes, including the helicopter crash submitted for the awards, were not just ratings-grabbers but also "the culmination of careful plotting and character development".

One panellist said that Ross's fake farewell was "a smart way to keep things interesting and alive".

Another simply concluded: "It looks like the most professional of the soaps at the moment. It's doing everything it can to get it right."

Emmerdale reacted to the win with a sweet "Woohoo!" on Twitter.

    TV Choice Awards 2016

Dame Barbara Windsor has been honoured for her outstanding contribution to television at the 20th annual TV Choice Awards.

The ceremony saw the biggest names in television being honoured at a star-studded event held at London’s Dorchester hotel.

ITV soap Emmerdale was the other big winner as it was named best soap over EastEnders, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks for the very first time.

The swansong series of Downton Abbey was named best drama series, while best actor went to Tom Hiddleston for BBC One’s The Night Manager.

Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes (Daniel Leal-Olivas/PA Wire/Press Association Images)
Dame Barbara said she was “absolutely delighted” to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Television Award.

She said: “It is such an honour to be recognised by TV Choice and it had not been something I ever expected to receive so I am extremely grateful.

“I have been in the business for over 66 years and I have been fortunate to have been involved in some truly outstanding productions that all mean so much to me, so to know that they also mean a lot to the audience is extremely touching.

“Everyone knows how much love I have for EastEnders and that show has played such a pivotal part in my career, without it I may not be receiving this award. Although Peggy may no longer be with us, she and the show will never leave my heart.”

Walford stalwart Peggy, who had been played by Dame Barbara since 1994, took her own life after being diagnosed with terminal cancer in scenes broadcast in May.

Happy Valley’s leading lady, Sarah Lancashire, beat the likes of Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael, Doctor Foster star Suranne Jones and Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory to be named best actress.
