EMMERDALE vet Rhona Goskirk faces an agonising decision after being told her unborn baby is likely to have Down's syndrome.
The mum-to-be - played by Zoe Henry - fears her romance with Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) won't last.
And she doesn't think that the baby's dad Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) - who she left to be with his best pal Paddy - will be involved either.
But both try to convince her to keep the baby after she decides to terminate.
Zoe, 37, told Inside Soap magazine: "I feel for the woman. The next few weeks will feature lots of angst and tears as the three of them try to come to a decision."

Meanwhile, Hazel's frustrations will soon boil over in Emmerdale as she has a public meltdown at the village's Christmas carol service.

Convinced that Jackson will not be able to leave hospital for the festive season because her planned renovations at Dale Head haven't been finished, Hazel struggles to keep a lid on her temper as Ashley speaks about Christmas miracles.

Overcome with grief and emotion, Hazel accuses him of talking rubbish as there's no way Jackson can ever walk again, and if there's anyone who deserves a miracle it's him. She also questions how any God could let such a tragic accident happen.

Storming out, Hazel throws the church's collection box at the nativity scene before breaking down in tears. Will her loved ones be able to provide any comfort? And is there any chance that Jackson can be home for Christmas?









These scenes air on Thursday, December 16 at 7pm on ITV1.

13th December

Paddy agrees to accompany Rhona to the scan, but there's a sense she feels Marlon should be there. Rhona's overwhelmed with joy during the scan but panics when the doctor asks for a word.

Arriving back in the village, she's bereft and shaken over some unexpected news and Paddy decides to tell Marlon what's happened. Opening the door to a grave Paddy, Marlon knows it's bad news and is in turmoil when Paddy hands him the scan picture and reveals the baby is at a high risk of Down's Syndrome.

Meanwhile, Chas tells Charity that she's worried her plans are going to ruin everyone's Christmas and thinks Carl may have genuinely changed. However, when she spots Carl talking to his mistress in the street, her anger is quickly reignited and she wonders whether the affair could still be on.

Elsewhere, Andy is unhappy to see Katie and Henshall on a date, and Zak reluctantly agrees to consider Jai's offer following some encouragement from Lisa.

14th Dec

Katie tells Andy that she's annoyed at him for scowling at Henshall last night, but he can't resist clashing with the detective when he sees him.

Diane tells Andy to be careful, while Katie insists to Henshall that she'll deal with Andy herself.

Meanwhile, Marlon tells Rhona that he's sorry he wasn't there yesterday and will now be there for her and for the baby. However, as Rhona anxiously waits for more information about her unborn child's condition, she tries to make Marlon understand how this changes everything.

Elsewhere, Hazel panics that she won't be able to sort out the house before Christmas; Charity worries that Chas is getting cold feet; Lisa and Zak tell Charity that they won't be bought for £10,000; and Hazel is touched but put out when Ashley tells her they're donating the Christmas collection to the spinal unit, rather than to help with the modifications for the house.

15th Dec

Rhona is still waiting agonisingly for her results and asks a supportive Paddy whether he'll think less of her if she's unsure what to do should the tests be positive. As Marlon, Paddy and Rhona wait nervously for the midwife to arrive, Rhona snaps at Marlon to stop saying everything will be fine.

When the midwife finally confirms their fears and reveals that the baby has Down's Syndrome, Rhona gives into the news but Marlon asks for a second test. As the midwife leaves, Marlon tries to comfort Rhona, but she admits she's not sure she can have this baby - she's going to have a termination.

Meanwhile, Andy comes round with flowers to apologise and Katie tells him she can't always think of his feelings and not have a love life. Later, Henshall visits her and clocks Andy's flowers.

Elsewhere, the builders are dragging their heels at Dale Head and Hazel is frustrated; Mia flirts with Adam but is stunned to discover that he's taken; and Leyla's fuming when Alicia lands her with her babysitting fee for Jacob.

16th Dec 1900

Hazel is still upset over the situation at Dale Head. Later, in the village carol service, she becomes irritated as Ashley talks about Christmas miracles and, as her anger rises, she demands that Ashley just be honest - there are no miracles and if there is a God, he's cruel and unforgiving.

As Ashley tries to calm her, she becomes more agitated and decides to leave, throwing a collection bucket at the nativity scene. Seeing the mess she's caused, Hazel is finally overcome with grief and resentment and breaks down.

Meanwhile, Marlon tells Rhona that the decision over the baby is not just hers to make. As she explains her fears over caring for a special needs child, Marlon realises she's just scared and asks Paddy to assure her that he will always be there for her and the baby - insisting the three of them are in this together. Will Rhona change her mind?

Elsewhere, Leyla fears Alicia is using Jacob to score points with Justin; Holly is touched at Roz's solidarity when she tells her that she's knocked the drugs on the head too; and Mia enjoys making Adam squirm when he discovers she's caught him out.

2000

Jacob tells his new babysitter Amy that he thinks everyone's arguing because of him and asks her to take him to his dad's. The situation between Leyla and Alicia is also frosty, but Alicia is unrepentant - thinking that Leyla should stop getting involved.

That night, while Alicia enjoys flirting with Ryan in the pub, Jacob creeps downstairs, puts his coat over his roman soldier costume, lets himself out of the house and heads into the night.

Meanwhile, Ashley admits he now realises just what Hazel is going through and wants to donate the church collection to her and Jackson directly. Hazel is touched, but can't accept the grand gesture and decides to put some money towards it herself. However, when a truckload of builders arrive claiming they're here to work on the modifications and they've already been paid for, Hazel is overcome and admits maybe miracles do happen after all.

Elsewhere, Charity's chuffed when Jai decides to keep her own, despite her lack of success with Zak and Lisa; Rhona is still torn over the baby; Mia warns Adam not to take her for a fool; him not to take her for a fool; and Zak is grateful when Derek brings round a dyslexia toy for Samson.

17th Dec

Leyla, Alicia and David panic when Jacob isn't in his bedroom in the morning. Noticing his shoes and school bag have gone, they realise he's run away and instantly call the police. Meanwhile, on the moors, Jacob is lost, scared and alone. Alicia blames Leyla who was meant to be watching him, while Leyla accuses her sister of being too drunk to check on him when she came in last night.

Later, Justin arrives, quickly followed by the police. Everyone soon realises that bickering wont get them anywhere - their little boy is lost in the cold and they need to get out there and find him. Leyla busies herself with the search, but losing Jacob has reignited her maternal instinct and she breaks down on David.

Meanwhile, Charity is chuffed that Jai still wants her to project manage the barn conversion, but Cain questions whether she's doing more than working for him. Later, when they're both a little worse for wear after the Christmas drinks, Jai and Charity feel a real attraction.

Elsewhere, Ella suspects that Declan is Hazel's mystery benefactor; the factory girls tease Lisa when Derek flirts with her at the Christmas do; Andy admits that he still thinks he'll get back together with Katie; Moira and John are relieved when Hannah moves home; and Hazel asks for forgiveness over the broken nativity scene.
