He is retired, so probably in his mid-60s. The actor George Layton is 68 years old

EastEnders' troubled teenager Whitney Dean believes that things are finally looking up when she lands herself a date later this month, but she's unaware that she's heading for fresh turmoil.

Whitney meets newcomer Lee when he offers to pay for her food at the café because she's forgotten her money, but she's initially unimpressed - telling him that she's going home to get her cash and doesn't want his help.

Later, when Whitney is approached by Lee again, she continues her cold behaviour by ordering him to go away.

However, following Lee's persistent attempts to flirt with her, Whitney finally gives in and agrees to a date with him. To Whitney's surprise, everything goes well and they end up sharing a kiss.

Just as Whitney appears smitten, though, viewers will learn that Lee is hiding a secret which could put her life in danger…

A Walford source commented: "Whitney is apprehensive about going on a date but she is surprised at how much she likes Lee and thinks that he is one of the good guys. Little does she know, all is not what it seems…"

These scenes air on Friday, August 19 at 8pm on BBC One.

Tanya's recent decision is having repercussions for all concerned on the Square. When Vanessa pays a visit to the boxing ring, Jack tries to comfort her but Michael soon rocks the boat by telling her about Max and Tanya's secret bedsit. Curious, Vanessa pays a visit to the bedsit where she finds signs of the affair. Suddenly, Tanya comes out of the bathroom and the two women come face-to-face. Vanessa confronts her rival, but Tanya's words only add to her heartbreak and she leaves feeling even more hurt. At the same time, Cora can sense that something isn't right with Tanya, who is keeping her health scare a secret.

When Vanessa returns home, she has a massive meltdown and starts smashing everything in sight. However, Jack and Carol interrupt her destructive outburst, forcing their way into the house just as Vanessa smashes a candlestick into a picture of Max. Stunned, Jack tells Vanessa that it's time for her to go - prompting unstable Vanessa to start attacking him. Carol and Jack carry Vanessa out of the house as she carries on shouting and screaming. Eddie watches the events unfold and is far from impressed by Carol's treatment of Vanessa.

Meanwhile, Whitney pays a visit to the café and orders some food, but she soon realises that she has forgotten her money. Fellow diner Lee offers to pay for her, but Whitney isn't impressed and says that she's going home to get her money. Later, Lee makes a second attempt to approach Whitney, offering to buy her a drink - but she orders him to go away.

Elsewhere, Michael snoops through the files and drawers at Eddie's shop but is disappointed not to find anything; Heather convinces Shirley to go to a forthcoming '80s music convention with her; while Lauren sneaks Ryan into her house and they head upstairs.

    16th

Carol has thrown Vanessa out of Max's house, but a sympathetic Eddie rushes over to help Vanessa to her feet. Eddie, Michael and Jodie then take Vanessa over to the B&B, where she sobs over the breakdown of her relationship. Later, Carol tries to apologise to Eddie over treating Vanessa too harshly, but he ignores her. Not long afterwards, though, Carol stands up to Eddie and their flirtation resumes. As the day continues, Vanessa heads off to find Eddie and when she catches up with Michael at the shop, she tells him that she wanted to bid farewell to his "lovely dad" before leaving the Square. However, Michael rants that Eddie is a liar and a cheat like all the others, adding that Eddie destroyed his mother. Michael then offers Vanessa a wad of cash to break Eddie's heart.

At the same time, Lauren annoys Tanya by flaunting the fact that Ryan has been in her room. However, Tanya also has her health to worry about and when she visits Yusef at the surgery, he explains that the hospital will want to perform a colposopy and a biopsy as soon as possible. Amid growing tension at home, Tanya books the hospital appointment in secret.

Meanwhile, Ian is busy juggling his three girlfriends Cheryl, Fiona and Rebecca - although it's proving difficult to keep track of them all. Ian also receives a visit from Darren, who is determined to fund his wedding and find a place for him and Jodie to live. Darren asks Ian whether he can rent his flat, and the Walford businessman agrees - all in the aim of impressing Rebecca with his kind gesture. Later, Ian and Rebecca clear the room out for Darren, and Ian agrees to give him more time when he doesn't have all of the rent money yet. Rebecca continues to be impressed by Ian's 'kind nature'.

Elsewhere, Lee approaches Whitney again and suggests that they may have got off on the wrong foot. Finally giving in, Whitney gives him her phone number.

    18th

Vanessa is surprised to receive a phone call from Harry, which she rejects. She soon learns that Jodie has been in contact with her father to explain how worried she is about her mum. Vanessa isn't pleased as she doesn't want Harry to be involved in the situation. Later, Vanessa catches up with Michael, who warns that her time to accept his offer is running out. However, Vanessa insists that she isn't interested in the idea and receives some comfort from Eddie later in the day.

As the day continues, Michael steals Anthony's house keys to do some snooping. He finds Eddie's padlocked toolbox, which contains a photo showing Eddie, a blonde woman and a baby. A note reading "Craig 13/3/76" accompanies the photo. Michael's detective work is interrupted as the Moons return home, but he manages to get out without being spotted. When Michael returns to the B&B, things start falling into place for him when Vanessa agrees to accept his offer and break Eddie's heart…

Meanwhile, Janine spots Ryan talking to a man at The Vic and realises that he's behaving strangely. She soon confronts her ex, telling him that she knows he's dealing drugs at the pub. Ryan dismisses the suggestion but he's caught out when Janine presents him with her evidence - a bag of cocaine. Later in the day, Lauren and Ryan visit The Vic together and are shocked to see the police conducting a drugs raid.

Elsewhere, Tanya goes to her hospital appointment and is informed that she'll get the results tomorrow; Shenice overhears Ian talking about Jane's 'death' and discusses the matter with Bobby; Jean is jealous when Pat agrees to be Norman's Pearly Queen at the fete; while Ian feels terrible and cancels a date with Cheryl when Bobby starts asking questions about Jane 'dying'.

    19th

Whitney's new love interest Lee asks her if she'd like to go bowling, and she agrees. To Whitney's surprise, the date goes well and they end up sharing a kiss. Later, Whitney ignores Lauren as she concentrates on replying to a text from Lee. However, Whitney doesn't realise that all is not what it seems with Lee and he's setting her up. Rob is with the mysterious newcomer and tells him that he'll take over things from now on…

Meanwhile, Tanya is continuing to hide her health scare from her loved ones. When she heads back to the hospital to collect her test results, the doctor delivers heartbreaking news - confirming that she is suffering from cancer. As she arrives home, Tanya is still in shock and she breaks down in tears.

Elsewhere, it's the day of the charity fete on the Square and Jean is still feeling disappointed over the fact that she can't be the Pearly Queen. However, Alfie promises her that if she wants to be a Queen, she can be and he'll help her. At the same time, Pat isn't happy about being the Queen and regrets agreeing to the idea. When she turns up for the fete, she spots Jean coming out of The Vic in similar Pearly Queen clothes and is shocked by her cheek. As Pat storms off, Jean finds herself as the one and only Pearly Queen - to Norman's disappointment.

Also today, Rebecca comes along to the fete to support Ian but storms off when he guiltily confesses that Jane is not dead; Pat encourages a downbeat Dot to make a list of things she needs to do before she dies; Vanessa embarks on Michael's scheme by trying to get closer to Eddie; while Zainab and Syed seem to be on better terms as he helps her with work, but things turn sour again when he mentions his wedding plans.
