A number of Hollyoaks cast members recently stepped in to help an elderly woman after she fell into a road and was almost hit by a bus, a report has claimed.

The incident apparently occurred outside San Carlo restaurant in Liverpool city centre, where familiar faces from the Channel 4 soap had gathered to celebrate Alice Barlow's (Rae Wilson) 19th birthday.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the stars rushed into action when they spotted what had happened to the woman, coming to her aid and calling an ambulance.

A source told the newspaper: "Before the celebrations happened, some of the show's stars ran to the rescue of an elderly lady in need. She was nearly knocked down by a passing bus outside the restaurant, after falling into the road.

"While the lady was okay, they helped her to a nearby step as she was pretty shaken. Helen Russell-Clark, who plays Jem Costello, and newcomers Bianca Hendrickse-Spendlove (Texas) and Cameron Crighton (Kevin) ran to her aid after witnessing the incident.

"They rang an ambulance and even stayed with her until she was checked over. The Hollyoaks gang looked horrified as they saw what had happened, but luckily for the elderly woman they were there to help."

It is thought that Barlow's birthday gathering went ahead as planned shortly after the ambulance arrived.
