'Emmerdale's Nathan talks more about turning evil

Nathan Wylde - played by Lyndon Ogbourne - comes into his own during next week's bank of Emmerdale eps when his mother Natasha confessed to his father Mark's murder. She soon begins to regret her decision, though, when he blackmails her for what's available of the Wylde family fortune, before temporarily leaving Emmerdale with the money.

I recently caught up with Lyndon for an in-depth chat about Nathan and what's to come for him when he returns from his mini-break. Click here for the first half or read on for more!

Have you been waiting for Nathan to turn evil?
"It's always the most fun to get your teeth into. Certainly with stuff I've done in the past and other characters I've played I've been fortunate enough to play some nasty pieces of work. It's always the most fun to play so with Nathan what I've enjoyed is this build up. You almost think he seems pretty caring. The thing with Nathan is that he always is very caring, despite the façade of these nasty one-liners to Maisie, he always will be quite protective over Maisie and Will. He always feels a sense of pride in being the man of the house but I think it appears in some screwed up ways. His way of being protective is bad love."

Amanda Donohoe thinks that Nathan's jealousy began when Maisie and Will came along…
"It's a jealousy that's born the moment other children came into his parents' lives. It also hugely affects the relationship between him and Ryan. Obviously Maisie fell in love with Ryan but the reason Nathan is so angry is not only is he trying to protect Maisie who has clearly gone mad, but he is very jealous of the fact that he was always the oldest son and now he realises he hasn't even got that. It all starts to crumble and fall apart for him."

Did you think he would react this way?
"I kind of hoped so! I think the way he's gone it starts as a strength thing and he starts to show he's the man of the family. I think something else that's also happened is he's never had a chance to scream and shout at his dad. He's never had that moment of being the strong son to turn round and tell him to leave because at that moment he became quite protective of Maisie and went off and looked after her when she left. By the time he got back he'd gone. They say if somebody's had a huge argument and that person leaves and never comes back or unfortunately something happens and they die they almost hold that feeling of aggression and anger because they never quite got to let go and give that to anybody. I think a lot of this anger he's putting out at Ryan and Faye is built up aggression that he's held for his dad and never had a chance to vent."

What direction will you be taking Nathan in when he returns?
"I think there's going to be a hell of a lot of deep-rooted beef - that sounds like a porn movie! He's going to come back and get as many girls as he can to take his deep-rooted beef! [laughs] I've been told not to give too much away but the idea is that there's going to be a lot of pretending of reformed character. It will appear that there's a reformed character in Nathan but there is definitely not. He's a man with a very dark and evil plan. I think if you were to watch in fastforward what the Wylde family have had chucked their way it's rightly so."

And what about Nathan's love life?
"Again I don't want to give away too much but don't you think that maybe all he needs is love? I'm so proud to have had a part in creating a character like Nathan and I'm also chuffed by the reaction that I get. I think what would be really interesting to see - and this isn't based on anything but my own speculation - but it would be quite nice to see a Bonnie and Clyde style situation going on. The difference between him and Cain is that there's something really calculating about him and with him being rich and slightly posher it makes him an evil-er character. Sort of like a Bond villain - there's always some money and some evil plan which doesn't usually need to be physical. It's just a manipulative and mind-controlling evil with him. The idea of having somebody come in and be a female counterpart to him..."

    What about Suzanne Shaw's character?
"I don't know what the background is to her coming in. I think she's got many a plan of love within the village but I don't know if any of that revolves around Nathan. It would be a lot of fun if it did! I think she's coming in as quite a feisty and sexy character. Maybe she'll just take a bite out of Nathan and spit him to the kerb. I think the plan when he gets back is a lot of cover-up. Lots of the idea that he's a reformed character but I think evil is not far from spilling over inside Nathan. There's a lot of fun to come…"

We asked for questions on Twitter and one person asked where your name comes from...
"My full name is Lyndon Saul Ogbourne which I don't mind because it's quite unusual. My sister's name's Purdy, from the Avengers! My parents are from Swindon and they're proper working class and coming from that sort of background they wanted to have slightly unusual names to create something different for us. They were always looking in unusual name books. Saul is from the Bible - King Saul - but they're not religious at all. They're just randomly into unusual names."

What are your thoughts on Alex Carter leaving Emmerdale?
"I think he's a great actor and he's going to go on to great things but we're really good friends so I'm sad to see him go as a friend. I'm excited for him, though. As a young actor involved in something like this it's always good to branch out and look to new horizons and, due to the character he plays, it's time to move on. It is going to be sad to see him go because he's a good friend of mine but it's an important time for him to branch out in his career."
