The executive producer of the Good Wife has revealed that Alicia will face a new set of problems in the second season.

Speaking to TV Guide, David W. Zucker promised that Alicia (Julianna Margulies) will "be confronted with a whole new intensity of challenges".

He explained that Alicia will have an unsettled time at work following the introduction of new partner Derrick Bond (Michael Ealy).

"It's first perceived as a relief," Zucker said. "[But] the ink isn't dry on the contract. They've come together out of dual necessity, but they're assessing one another in terms of what the expectations are and orienting to the politics of the office."

He added: "As soon as [Alicia] feels she may have gotten herself on a secure track, suddenly everything gets shifted, which is how things started last year when she discovered the competition."

Zucker also revealed that Alicia's relationship with her husband Peter (Chris Noth) will be put to the test when he begins running for office again.

"His new campaign is going to expose [the Florrick family] to the public in regular intervals," he said. "What is the next manifestation of that relationship? He's out of jail, he's going to be setting upon what his next professional track will be.

"They are not at all the same people they were before this whole maelstrom began. Suddenly they're different people. How does the relationship accommodate that and what does it transform into?"

The second season of The Good Wife premieres on September 28 on CBS.

Michael J. Fox has signed up to guest star in an episode of The Good Wife.

TV Guide reports that the actor, who is best known for his role in Back To The Future, will play a lawyer called Simon Canning.

His character will battle with Alicia (Julianna Margulies) in a large class action case.

According to CBS, Simon is "willing to use anything in court, including symptoms of his neurological condition, to create sympathy for his otherwise unsympathetic client - a giant pharmaceutical company".

The Good Wife's executive producers Robert and Michelle King said: "We're absolutely thrilled that Michael has agreed to play this role. His intelligence as an actor, combined with his incredible comic timing, will really bring this smart, cynical lawyer to life."

The Good Wife returns for a new season on September 28 on CBS.

Actor Michael J Fox, who has Parkinson's Disease, is to return to television as a guest star in US drama The Good Wife, according to reports.

The 49-year-old will play a "shrewd and cynical" lawyer who uses his condition as a bargaining tool, Entertainment Tonight reported.

"We're absolutely thrilled," the show's producers told the tabloid TV show.

He had previously starred in the hit sitcoms Family Ties and Spin City, but quit to devote his time to his family and finding a cure for Parkinson's Disease.

The Emmy award-winning star has since set up his own foundation to help fellow suffers, testified to the US Congress, and acted as an advocate for stem cell research.

Last year, he was awarded an honorary medical degree by Sweden's Karolinska Institute for his work.

Fox went public with his illness in 1998 but had been diagnosed with the degenerative disease in 1991 after realising something was wrong when he could not stop his hands shaking.

His struggle with Parkinson's was documented in his 2002 autobiography, Lucky Man, where he revealed he had turned to drink after the diagnosis, almost destroying his marriage in the process.

He described his symptoms as including "rigidity, shuffling, tremors, lack of balance [and] diminished small motor control".

In recent years, he has made a small number of cameo appearances, including roles in TV series Boston Legal and Rescue Me, as well as lending his voice to characters in animation movies, including Stuart Little.

His role on The Good Wife was revealed by producers Robert and Michelle King.

The pair told Entertainment Tonight that Fox's "intelligence combined with his incredible comic timing will really bring this smart, cynical lawyer to life".

The US legal drama stars Julianna Margulies as Alicia Florrick, who is forced to return to work when her politician husband is jailed for corruption.

Margulies won Golden Globe and Screen Actors' Guild awards for the role earlier this year.

The second series begins in the US next month, and will be shown on Channel 4 in the UK.

Meanwhile, Fox will be seen on the big screen again this autumn when Back To The Future receives a limited cinematic re-release to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Elizabeth Reaser and Lili Taylor have both signed up to appear in The Good Wife.

TV Guide reports that the actresses have landed recurring roles in the drama.

Reaser, who will make her first appearance in October, is expected to play a sports writer called Tammy. The character is a possible love interest for Will (Josh Charles).

Meanwhile, Taylor will join the show in November as Donna Seabrook, who may begin a romantic relationship with Kalinda (Archie Panjabi).

Reaser plays Esme Cullen in Twilight and has appeared in The Ex List and Grey's Anatomy, while Taylor has starred in shows including State Of Mind and Six Feet Under.

The new season of The Good Wife premieres on September 28 on CBS.
