17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (2011)
Modern Family led the 17th Screen Actors Guild nominations Thursday with four mentions, as Ed O'Neill finally got some awards love, while Betty White continues to be the toast of the town.
The cast of the ABC comedy will vie for comedy ensemble honors against defending champ Glee, The Office, 30 Rock and Hot in Cleveland. Modern Family stars O'Neill — who was snubbed at the Emmys and the Golden Globes — Ty Burrell and Sofia Vergara picked up acting nominations.
O'Neill and Burrell are up against Chris Colfer (Glee), Steve Carell (The Office) and Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), who will go for an unprecedented five-peat in the comedy actor category.
Vergara will face off against White — SAG's 2010 Life Achievement Award recipient — Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Jane Lynch (Glee) and Tina Fey (30 Rock), who's aiming for her fourth straight win for comedy actress.
In drama, Mad Men's ensemble will go for a three-peat against the casts of Boardwalk Empire, The Closer, Dexter and The Good Wife.
The Good Wife's Julianna Margulies — already SAG's winningest performer with seven awards — will try to defend her drama actress crown against Glenn Close (Damages), Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).
In the film races, The King's Speech and The Fighter led the way with four nominations each, including nods for best ensemble.
They are up against Black Swan, The Social Network and The Kids Are All Right.
The 17th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will air live Sunday, Jan. 30 at 8/7c on TNT and TBS.
