Next week marks the end of the road for Holby City favourite Serena Campbell as she bows out in a blaze of glory after seven years.
Serena's final episode will see her fight for justice for her nephew Jason, while Nicky is thrown into a dilemma and Essie makes a shock discovery.
Here's a full collection of the seven biggest stories you can look forward to:
1. Serena fights for justice...
Serena's time on the show will come to an end next week, but not before she's forced to jump over one final hurdle.
With a spot-check inspection on the horizon, Serena knows that she must be on her best behaviour – acutely aware that Max is looking for a reason to fire her.
However, when the privatised porter company starts to cause trouble for her nephew Jason, Serena stays loyal to her beliefs – putting her career on the line in the process.
Furious that Jason is facing the sack, Serena organises a risky campaign outside of the hospital. But could live to regret the consequences...
2. …But ends up getting arrested
That's right – Serena will find herself on the wrong side of the law in her attempts to get justice for Jason.
After spending the night in a cell, Serena arrives back at work to a stern dressing down from her boss Max McGerry.
Unsurprisingly, Serena plays right into Max's hands with her unlawful antics, having now given ammunition she needed to fire her. Is the game up for Serena?
3. Alex is back
Alex is back in Holby next week, when an injured leg throws her into Serena's exit path. Serena is pleased to see Alex, played by former Waterloo Road star Heather Peace, after a few months and they are soon making plans to catch up later that day.
However, when Alex's injury takes a sinister turn for the worst, Serena is forced to fly solo and perform emergency surgery on her – despite having just been given the axe from Max.
Acknowledging how well Serena performed under the high-pressured circumstances, Max retracts her previous decision to let Serena go. But is her mind already made up? It looks like it...
4. Serena leaves with her head held high
Say it ain't so! As mentioned above, next week's episode marks the end of the road for Serena, who ultimately decides to bow out after a heroic day at the hospital.
Aware she's fighting a losing battle with Max, Serena eventually opts to leave of her own accord, but not before sending her colleagues a poignant video message about the future of the hospital.
Serena also takes the opportunity to warn her friend Ric about Max's unscrupulous
intentions, before walking away with her head held high. So long, Serena!
5. Nicky's mum lands her in a dilemma
A big, new story for Nicky will kick off next week, when her struggling mum Tracy rocks up at the hospital with a man she's crashed into in a road accident.
Although the man isn't too badly injured, a distressed Tracy confides in Nicky that her insurance policy had recently expired and she hasn't been able to afford to renew it.
As matters spiral out of control, Nicky feels torn between her advancing career and her need to protect her mum. How far will Nicky go to help Tracy?
6. Essie considers sharing her secret
With Essie and Ben's relationship going from strength to strength, she starts to wonder if it could be time to share all of her secrets.
Smitten, Essie confides in Sacha that she wants Ben to know everything about her – including the truth about baby Isla’s illegal adoption. However, an unexpected development soon throws everything on its head...
7. Essie makes a shock discovery about Ben
As Essie prepares to take the next step with Ben, she is left devastated when Sacha and Dom approach her about a worrying discovery they've made.
Dom sheepishly tells Essie that Ben had a reputation in his last job for being a bit of a ladies man, and even got a nurse pregnant following a one-night stand.
Fearing that Ben won't be sticking around in the long term, Essie makes a big decision about the future of their relationship. But is this what she really wants?
