Hollyoaks bosses have cast Goodnight Sweetheart star Michelle Holmes in an intriguing new guest role.

Michelle, best known for playing Yvonne Sparrow in the BBC's classic sitcom, has joined the Channel 4 soap to play a part in the search for Scott Drinkwell's mother.

The actress has been cast as newcomer Greta, who Scott tracks down for clues about his biological family later this month.

Scott (Ross Adams) recently discovered that he's adopted and, after years of feeling neglected by his loved ones, he's now convinced the family he truly belongs with is out there waiting for him.

Upcoming scenes see Scott find Greta at the house where he knows his mum used to live, but will she be able to help him? Or will Greta's information leave poor Scott more lost than ever before?

Speaking about her guest role, Michelle commented: "It's a pleasure to be working on Hollyoaks and with the hugely talented Ross Adams.

"We are having such a great time and lots of laughs in the quest to find Scott's mum."

As well as Goodnight Sweetheart, Michelle is best known for roles in Rita, Sue and Bob Too!, Merseybeat, Life Begins and Above Suspicion.

Hollyoaks airs Michelle's first scenes on Tuesday, April 11 at 7pm on E4 and Wednesday, April 12 at 6.30pm on Channel 4.
