Scare Tactics. Irene And Leah Receive Shocking News.

She left Summer Bay to clear her head. But now, Irene is back to check on baby Luc in Home and Away. However, a mysterious caller casts a shadow over her return. Who is it?

At the same time, Irene's (Lynne McGranger) arrival at the hospital is met with an icy glare from Leah. Clearly, absence doesn't always make the heart grow fonder.

Leah is stunned to see Irene - until Alf reveals he called her with the news about the baby.

"Leah is non-committal and cold towards Irene, which confuses her," Lynne, 64, says. "She's worried about Luc and the entire situation."

Recently, the former best friends reached breaking point during Luc's custody battle. Their feud saw Leah slap Irene, who decided she needed space and quit the Bay.

She left Leah a letter, hoping it would lead to a reconciliation.

In Luc's hospital room, Irene asks Leah why she hasn't mentioned the letter. Leah declares she hasn't read it. It baffles Irene, who is at her wits' end trying to get through to her.

"It makes it even harder, because up until then Irene assumes she has read it," Lynne explains. "She's bewildered and thinks 'What do I have to do? When is she going to forgive me?'"

Later that day, curiosity gets the better of Leah and she opens the envelope. What she finds shocks her - it's a contract signing over Irene's half of the Diner to her!

Upon Alf's advice, Leah agrees to talk it out. Irene tells her the contract is her apology. She didn't want Leah to lose the Diner on top of everything else.

While her generous offer is touching, Leah says this isn't the way to fix things. But what is?

Later, Irene is at home when she receives an eerie phone call from someone she doesn't know.

Irene tells them to stop calling her - she's had enough. Irene slams down the phone, shaken by what she's just heard.

Who is the mystery caller? And what is Irene hiding?

Baby In Danger. The Race Is On To Save Young Luc's Life.

The thought of losing baby Luc has the residents of Summer Bay on edge as she's rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.

In episodes of Home and Away this week, the poor infant enters a terrifying downward spiral after Ash (George Mason) notices she has a fever.

Concerned for her health, Ash & Kat take her to hospital. But things take a drastic turn when Luc suffers a fit in the car. Suddenly, it's a race to save her life.

"It's intense," George says. "Ash is very concerned, but hopes that if he gets her to the hospital in time, she might be OK."

On the way, Kat conveys little Luc's symptoms over the phone to Tori, who's at the diner. While the doc tries to calm the pair, Leah overhears the conversation and notices Tori's anxiety.

Tori meets Ash, Kat and Luc at the hospital to run tests. Leah arrives in time to hear Tori explain that Luc was born with a serious bowel issue and needs surgery as soon as possible.

"The doctors warn them things aren't good and to be prepared in case she doesn't make it," George says. "Ash is in utter dismay and feels a bit guilty."

Ash wants assurances his niece will be fine, but Tori won't promise anything. She knows how delicate the medical situation is. All she can suggest is they wait for the paediatric surgeon to arrive.

But the specialist is in surgery at another hospital. Either Tori carries out the procedure or Luc might not make it. The pressure is on...

As a nervous Tori takes Luc into the operating theatre, Leah tries to find Luc's father, VJ. He's not answering his phone and isn't at school - where could he be?

In fact, he's with Hunter, unaware his daughter is critically ill.

Eventually, VJ arrives at the hospital. He berates Ash & Kat for letting Luc get so sick - he trusted them! He then tearfully confesses to Leah how much he regrets how he's handled being a father.

"There has always been the question of who's better to look after Luc," George explains. "Ash wasn't even sure he was the person to do it, but when there was no-one else, he felt like it was his job. So it's quite sad."

Later, Tori arrives with an update on Luc's condition. She's in an induced coma and on a ventilator. Tori hopes this will prevent organ failure, but the next 48 hours will be critical!

Luc Warm. Kat Pushes Away From Ash And The Baby.

In times of stress, police officer Kat is trained to remain calm. But this week, her lack of warmth towards baby Luc has her in a spin.

At the hospital, Kat watches as Ash checks in on Luc. He speaks softly to the infant, leaving Kat uncomfortable.

She volunteers to head home to pick up some fresh clothes. In truth, she just needs to get away.

It's been a rough road for Kat, who felt pressured to put her career on hold for Ash's desire to take custody of Luc.

With a promotion on the line, Kat began working terribly long hours. But her devotion to the job put her and Ash's relationship in jeopardy.

"Kat takes a back seat, but it's at the point where he really needs her - it's challenging," George says. "He doesn't know if she's ready to go the distance with him and Luc."

As Kat leaves the hospital, Tori asks if she's OK. After some hesitation, Kat explains how she can't seem to connect with Luc. She's concerned Ash will leave her for not having a strong maternal instinct.

When Kat goes back to the hospital that night, she again sees Ash doting on his niece. Will their relationship survive is she isn't ready for kids?
