O.C. star Mischa Barton has been taken by police from her home in Hollywood to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in LA after an emergency call was made. The actress missed the premiere of her new film Homecoming in New York as she was still in hospital under psychiatric hold. A friend of the Mischa’s told People that, ‘She has been dealing with a lot of personal issues. I don't know if she really ever gave up some of the bad habits that had gotten out of control a couple years back.’ The 23-year-old also split up with The Kooks’ Luke Pritchard earlier in the year and was then photographed looking frail and gaunt. The Sixth Sense star said on her blog at the time, ‘The bad just started to outweigh the good and a long-distance relationship is never an easy thing to do.’

Actress Mischa Barton is "making improvements" in hospital and hopes to return to work later this month, her publicist has said.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital last Wednesday after Los Angeles police removed her from her home for an undisclosed medical problem.

Publicist Craig Schneider would not elaborate on her condition but said she was "still seeking treatment".

She will play a pill-popping model in TV series The Beautiful Life.

The new show is scheduled to begin production on 31 July.

Last week, Barton missed the New York premiere of her new film Homecoming because of her illness.

In Homecoming, she plays a woman obsessed with her former high school sweetheart.

Troubled actress Mischa Barton has made her first public appearance since she was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold at a Los Angeles hospital earlier this month.

The former The O.C. star was placed under the care of doctors at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after reportedly suffering a meltdown and calling cops to her Hollywood home.

She was released over the weekend (25-26Jul09) after a week of treatment, with her representative insisting the 23 year old is preparing to get back to work.

And now the star has proved she is ready to move on from the incident.

Barton was pictured looking happy and healthy as she smiled and waved to photographers outside L.A.'s Lax Airport on Tuesday before catching a flight to New York, where she is due to begin filming new her TV show The Beautiful Life.

Shooting on the programme, created by Ashton Kutcher, was initially reported to have been delayed by Barton's hospitalisation, but bosses at The CW network insisted the hold-up was the result of unfinished sets.

Barton, 23, is set to play Sonja Stone, a catwalk beauty addicted to pills, on new show, which is tentatively scheduled to start filming on 31 July.

Mischa Barton's TV co-stars have hit back at reports she's jeopardised her health by returning to work on new show The Beautiful Life following her recent stint in hospital - insisting the actress is doing "great" on set.

The former The O.C. star was allegedly placed under involuntary psychiatric hold at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles earlier this month after reportedly suffering a meltdown and calling cops to her Hollywood home.

Barton was released over the weekend (25-26Jul09) after a week of treatment, and her representative insisted the actress was eager to get back to work on Ashton Kutcher's new drama series in New York.

The star's close circle of friends have voiced fears that she needs more "aggressive" therapy to get back to her best before returning to work, according to the New York Daily News.

But her co-stars Sara Paxton and Ben Hollingsworth insist Barton will wow audiences with her triumphant return to TV.

Paxton tells People.com, "We had our first read-through and we're all so very excited to have her back. She's such a great girl. We really didn't talk about everything that's been going on. It was really all work."

Hollingsworth adds, "We were all worried about her. We didn't really know what was going on, but she's looking great. She's feeling great and it's just good to have her back. We start shooting again on Friday and she's ready to work. We're all ready to jump into it and are very excited - even Mischa."

Barton, 23, is set to play Sonja Stone, a catwalk beauty addicted to pills, on the new show, which is scheduled to debut in September.

TV bosses have laughed off reports they were set to replace Mischa Barton's character in The Beautiful Life.

The actress was allegedly placed under involuntary psychiatric hold at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles last month after reportedly suffering a meltdown and calling cops to her Hollywood home.

Reports claimed that executives at U.S. network The CW were making plans to replace Barton, who is set to play a supermodel in the new series, with a new female character.

The 23 year old was released after a week of treatment and headed back to the set to resume her role, insisting "(it's) going really well... I'm excited!"

Programming chief Dawn Ostroff has downplayed claims network bosses wanted to recast the former The O.C. star, stating they had "no issues" with her stint in hospital.

And Ashton Kutcher, one of the executive producers on the new drama series, backed up Ostroff: "(Mischa) was never unavailable for a day of work... Mischa's in New York working today."
