Former Emmerdale star Matt Healy will make a guest appearance in BBC One's flagship medical drama Casualty, Digital Spy can exclusively reveal.

Healy, who played Yorkshire businessman Matthew King for four years from 2004 to 2008, will take on the role of an unsympathetic policeman called Callaghan in the third episode of the new series.

Callaghan is forced to deal with tearaway teen Keanan (Josefl Altin) after he causes a road traffic accident, and when paramedics insist that everybody involved in the incident return to the emergency department, Callaghan must escort Keanan to the hospital.

Callaghan tells Keanan his thoughts about all offenders, before laying into one of the junior doctors. In all the commotion, however, the teenager escapes.

Healy's scenes, which he filmed at the end of last month, will air on Saturday, September 19 on BBC One.

Healy quit the ITV soap at the end of last year to pursue other acting opportunities. His character bowed out on screen in dramatic style when he was killed in a van crash on his wedding day to Anna de Souza (Emma Davies).

Is this a guest role only or permanent?

Pity I thought he was getting the clinical lead role when Jordan pops his cloggs.

Rubbish continuity from the SWs if he doesn't. How many times has it been said that his tumours fatal?!

But there's an experiemental treatment that *might* cure him!! Give him a couple of months of treatment and he'll be right as rain, no tumour and it'll never be mentioned again :p

That is what I meant when I said he might not pop his cloggs. I am sure he will be better again soon. :)

Oh come on he's been ill since this series began last year, they have to be building up to his big send off to the ER in the sky otherwise why make such a big story of him having a tumour if he is going to surive. He has to die.
