I don't know if many of you still watch (or ever have) but I and hubby love this show, so as series 3 has finished here and I'm not sure when 4 will be on, I thought I'd take a look and see whats happening in the US.

OMG I wish I hadn't!!!

You know at the end of Series 3 when Prof Payne looked at their shadows and there was one less shadow than there should be, which led us to the conclusion one of them was dead - well during series 4 JIM gets killed!!! Yes JIM!!!!

If anyone wants any GW spoilers in a little more detail, let me know and I'll post them

During a deadly fire at Rockland University, Jim is able to save a young psychology professor, Eli, who suffers a near death experience (NDE). Back at the hospital, Melinda and Jim are shocked as they watch Eli talk to a student, Fiona, who died in the fire. They soon learn that Eli, whose eyes had been bandaged, hadn’t realized he was speaking to a ghost, and that even with the bandages removed, he can’t see her but can hear her. When Melinda confronts him about it, Eli is unwilling to believe he can communicate with ghosts, blaming it on post traumatic stress disorder. Later, after being bombarded by several needy spirits, Eli accepts his new ability and turns to Melinda for guidance. However, Eli is also being haunted by Fiona, a former patient, who had a history of arson, and who may have set the fire that killed her. Eli had ended his work with Fiona because he felt he had grown to close to her to treat her professionally. However, she took this as a rejection, and confronted him late at night in his office, just before the fire started. As Melinda and Eli investigate Fiona’s involvement in the fire, they discover that Fiona, a foster child, has been covering for her foster brother, Christian, who had burned down their foster home to escape their abusive foster father. A young Fiona took responsibility for the fire because her brother would have been tried as an adult. They soon learn that Christian is also responsible for the fire that killed Fiona as he was angered by the control Eli had gained over Fiona’s life and wanted to scare Eli away. Fiona continues to cover for Christian in death, until Eli and Melinda are able to convince her that he needs help and that she needs to cross over. Melinda then says goodbye to Professor Payne, who is spending several months on sabbatical.

While she didn’t really “know” any of them, Melinda “knew of” the cool kids Ryan, Lucas, Haylie and Grace, and was a little surprised when Grace contacted her after she found Lucas dead. Melinda was sure that Grace remembered her from school as the crazy girl who spoke to ghosts, and now Grace was willing to believe a little in order to find out what happened to Lucas. However, while Lucas’ ghost remains elusive, another ghost begins haunting Ryan and Grace. After much sleuthing and a couple of visions, Melinda and Eli discover that Ryan, Lucas and Grace had been involved in a traffic accident where a man had died, but they had covered it up because Lucas, the driver, had been drunk. While they weren’t directly responsible for the man’s death, Lucas was slowly being driven mad by the secret, and had accidentally overdosed on sleeping pills while trying to get it out of his head. Once dead, he decided to haunt Ryan and Grace as the ghost of the dead man, hoping it would prompt them to come clean. In the end, Melinda is able to convince Grace and Ryan that its time to fess up, and Lucas is able to cross over.

Determined to talk with her before doing anything, Jim is frustrated when he discovers Melinda's grief is blocking her ability to see ghosts, including him. While trying to get through to her, Jim discovers that the ghost of a sickly teenage girl is haunting Melinda, delivering signs to her that she assumes are coming from Jim. Once at Jim's funeral, a moving speech by Jim's friend Tim Flaherty lifts the force blocking Melinda’s gift, and she and Jim can finally communicate. However, Jim is insistent that he stick around to make sure that Melinda is safe, especially with the creepy girl ghost he saw haunting her. At the hospital, Melinda stands vigil by Sam Lucas, the man whose body Jim inhabited after watching his soul cross over. While Jim's interference allowed "Sam" to survive his accident with minor injuries, neither of their memories are present in "Sam" now. Melinda is certain that given the time, Jim will regain his memories in Sam's body, allowing them to be together again. Eli and Delia start to worry that Melinda is losing her grip on even the bizarre reality they all share, and Eli reminds her that even if Jim did inhabit Sam's body, memories generally don't survive the transformation of either reincarnations or "walk-ins." Undaunted, Melinda continues to spend time with Sam, who will almost always appear on screen as Jim. When Sam and Melinda start to put the pieces of his old life back together, Melinda must help convince his parent that he needs to follow his own instincts to regain his life. She must also cross over a ghost who witnessed Jim "steal" Sam's body, which she does by helping Sam's family. Finally, Delia is truly convinced that Jim is in Sam's body, after she runs in to him at an appointment only Jim would keep. In order to keep Sam close and give him a reason to stay in Grandview, Melinda offers him a job renovating and living in her garage.
