Newlywed's HIV test comes back negative
Mercedes McQueen has been having a difficult time of late after discovering her lover has HIV and surviving a church explosion in which her secret brother attempted to kill her entire family.
But the unlucky Hollyoaks resident is finally on the receiving end of some good news when she is told that her HIV test has come back negative.
Mercedes, played by Jennifer Metclafe, has been sick with worry after having unprotected sex with Malachy Fisher (Glen Wallace) before learning the details of his condition.
She married the Irishman this month in a romantic ceremony in Belfast.
The newlyweds return to Chester during the Christmas period and are welcomed by the news.
‘Mercedes is ready to stick her head in the sand and forget all about the test results.
‘But her family make her confront everything and she opens the letter from the hospital, which tells her she’s in the clear,’ a show insider told the Daily Star.
Mercedes runs off in tears after discovering the results but later reveals the truth to her loved ones.
‘You would think she would be extremely happy but the reality is that now she has a husband who could die and leave her on her own.
‘At least if she had HIV then they would be going through everything together.
'The news is bitter sweet,’ the source added.
But doesnt that mean that she would never be able to have children with Malachy. If they have unprotected sex then he could pass the disease onto her so does that mean that they wont sleep with each other?!?!

No they would not be able to have children together, however they can still have a sexual relationship if condoms are worn at all times, and caution is taken.

Maybe via adopting, NOT naturally!! Not one doctor or medical advisor would recommend in this specific situation to get pregnant naturally, they would be giving a potential death sentence to the other partner who is infection free! Unless you opt for using someone elses sperm via IVF, and in some situations going private and paying lots of money, it's not advisable! So NO they wont be able to naturally have their own child, but they could find other alternatives.

The question asked was would they wouldn't be able to have children so to say that they cannot be biological parents is wrong because it can happen, although it is an expensive and laborious process.

Hence the part in my previous post which states if they wish to pay lots and go private, although in this particular storyline unless they win the lottery, it's a highly unlikely situation! So as they are not rolling around in cash, then the orginal answer to the question is NO they wont be able to have their own kids together naturally! Hth

Actually they can have their own biological child through Artificial Insemination. If the female is the uninfected partner, artificial insemination can help if the sperm is first treated to reduce its ability to cause infection. This requires a new technique called "sperm washing," an attempt to remove whatever virus is present and not part of the sperm itself. The "washed" sperm can then be used for insemination that will presumably pose less risk of infecting the woman. In addition, taking the same anti-viral drug regimen as someone with HIV may offer some protection from infection if the sperm is not virus-free
Trying to get pregnant the old-fashioned way poses small but significant risk when one partner is HIV-positive (5% risk).
And they dont have to be rolling in it to have it done as they can apply to the NHS and have 3 attempts on them!
Pink Grinch u seem to be a bit of a know it all when u really need to do your research properly!!

Once again, another who did not read my post! IT IS POSSIBLE BUT EXPENSIVE! Hence they have to get the money, and therefore can't see it happening unless they win the lottery! *Yawn*

Actually only one-third of PCTS introduced guidelines to end the postcode lottery for IVF treatment, which is a very small proportion. Oh and to add despite all PCTS,as stated byNICE guidelines in 2004, should offer at least one round of IVF treatment, it's not being adhered to :http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1544312/IVF-postcode-lottery-is-heartache-for-thousands-of-couples.html
Anyway, this is a topic about a soap which is unrealistic at the best of times.
great new she is in the clear!
why just becuase they get married does it mean they want children??? not EVERYONE wants to, prehaps they will just grow old together... just the 2 of them
and would just like to add ( after having fertility probs and looking into everything and chatting to lots of people in same situation) that even if local pcts do offer free treatment, its not automatic youll get it and you have to meet certain criteria!!!
