A devastated Liz learns that imprisoned husband, Jim, has had his sentence extended by another two years following a vicious attack on his cell mate. With Jim now facing incarceration until 2008, a fraught Liz confides in Steve and Deirdre. Having spent so long waiting for Jim to be released, will this latest setback signal the end of the line for their turbulent marriage?

Meanwhile, Leanne and Jamie travel to Birmingham to meet up again with Carol, Jamie’s real mother. After witnessing her constant tippling, burning of lunch and the poor state of her home, Leanne quickly realizes that Carol has an alcohol problem, which Jamie seems oblivious to. As the pair later discuss their visit, will Leanne reveal the painful truth about Carol’s predicament?

Elsewhere, it looks like Mel’s scam with the book club members is going to pay off. Norris has collected the cheques from the group with the exception of Ken. With the monies for the publishing costs handed over, Mel begins to read aloud to the assembled throng. They hang on his every word but as he accepts their eager applause Ken arrives and informs the shocked residents that all is not what it seems. Will Mel’s real identity be revealed?

Concerned about his mother, Jamie confides in Leanne and tells her that he wants to be a part of Carol’s life and to try to help her through her problems. He decides to act on the moment and quickly jumps into the van and heads off once more to Birmingham. Danny witnesses his son leave and knowing he’s not on factory business wonders what Jamie is up to. He later catches up with Leanne and quizzes her about Jamie’s whereabouts. Will Leanne betray her boyfriend’s confidence and reveal that Jamie has re-kindled his relationship with Carol, and if so how will Danny react?

Meanwhile, Charlie is still the subject of gossip in the Rover’s. Shelley overhears Fred and Ciaran discussing him saying they don’t trust him. Weary of the tall tales, Shelley discusses the situation with Charlie. Annoyed, Charlie blames Betty, claiming she is at the root of all the wagging tongues. He suggests to Shelley that she give Betty the elbow in a bid to stop the rumour mill. Will Shelley bow down to Charlie’s demands and has Betty served up her last hot-pot?

Liz senses a new lease of life. Steve is still uneasy with Liz’s decision to dump Jim and is even less impressed when Eileen persuades his mum to join her at speed dating event to be held in the Weatherfield Arms.

Danny is still reeling at the shock of hearing about Jamie’s visit to his mum. Leanne is concerned that Danny will let slip to Jamie that he knows about his re-kindled relationship with Carol. Leanne fears Jamie will be upset that she has betrayed his confidence. She talks to her boyfriend and attempts to get him to speak to his dad about the situation with Carol, but Jamie is adamant, Danny must not find out. Leanne is in turmoil, she later catches up with Danny and is shocked when he suggests he will keep quiet about Jamie’s visits if she agrees to sleep with him? How will Leanne react to Danny’s indecent proposal?

Meanwhile, Charlie and Shelley defy the gossips and put on a brave face in the Rovers. Shelley tackles Fred about his concerns regarding her relationship with Charlie. Fred concedes but says he was only ever concerned for Shelley’s well-being. Later Charlie admits to Shelley that he’s tired of all the talk and that he is only truly happy when they are alone together. Shelley agrees and they both vow not to allow anyone or anything to come between them. Is Shelley falling deeper into the clutches of the ever more controlling Charlie?

Elsewhere, worried about his parents’ marriage, Steve telephones Jim in a last ditch attempt to get his dad to take Liz’s feelings seriously. Will Steve be successful or is it too late to change Liz’s mind?

Also, holiday fever is in the air as Violet returns from Ibiza and straight into an argument with Jason,. Vera, meanwhile, books a holiday in Formby, much to Jack’s discomfort.

Liz steels herself for her visit to Jim. She has made up her mind and is going to ask him for a divorce. Liz arrives at the prison to find Jim in an apologetic mood. He pleads with her, vowing never to let her down again. A desperate Jim begs Liz to give them another chance. Will he be able to win Liz around or is it too late to save their shattered marriage?

Shelley sees stars when Charlie rushes through into the Rover’s backroom and accidentally hits Shelley full on in the face with the door. The incident knocks Shelley for six but she resists Charlie’s attempts to get her to seek medical attention. Worried Charlie takes the day off work to look after her, insisting Shelley does the same. He confines her to the bedroom for the rest of the day. Not wanting to rock the boat, Shelley once again follows Charlie’s every order.

Meanwhile, Jamie has been plagued by text messages from his erratic mum Carol. Leanne again tries to get him to talk to Danny about Carol but once again he refuses. Danny later tackles Jamie about the situation and advises his son that he should cut all links with Carol before she bleeds him dry. Jamie is cutting, telling Danny that he wishes he’d have chosen to stay with Carol rather than moving in with his dad. Danny is stung by his son’s harsh words. Jamie, now aware that Leanne has betrayed his trust, is seething, telling his shocked girlfriend that he no longer trusts her.

Also, Diggory attempts to persuade Sarah to leave the corner shop and work in his bakery. Dev is not impressed by Diggory’s attempts to poach his staff.

Shelley’s eye looks awful but she thinks she ought to go downstairs and face everyone. Charlie however knows that everyone will think he had a hand in what happened and yet again manages to manipulate Shelley into staying in the bedroom. As the day goes on and her eye gets worse Shelley starts to wonder when she will be able to go back behind the bar and asks Charlie to concoct a story about her absence.

Frankie and Warren are desperate to know what Jamie and Danny have argued about, but neither are letting on. Jamie is determined to keep the truth about his visit to his mum from Frankie and threatens to kill Danny if he lets on. Later though, assuming that Danny has spilled the beans Jamie tells Frankie he has been visiting Carol. How will Frankie react?

Meanwhile Leanne is feeling guilty for telling Danny about Jamie’s secret but she’s not prepared for Jamie’s reaction. Devastated she seeks solace with Danny who is also struggling to come to terms with Jamie’s deception. Will comfort turn to lust once more for the cheating pair?

Elsewhere Steve is not happy with Liz’s plan to go speed dating with Eileen, and Sarah finds herself out of a job!
