Monday 23rd October

Oh heck. As we all know, these things happen in threes. So what will be the next horrific disaster after the explosion at the wedding and the helicopter crash? Can we expect a full-force hurricane? Nuclear meltdown in the diner's tea urn? Or will Godzilla emerge from the sea and start eating the buildings? This is Home and Away, people, and anything can happen - but let's concentrate, for now, on what's already occurring. "We haven't got all the facts yet", says Alf, as he absent-mindedly starts clutching his chest. However, some people are determined to remain certain that their love ones have perished. "After everything that Zoƫ did," asks Jack, "after everything we've been through, how can something like this happen?" Well, fate has a fickle finger. And it's good to see Colleen offering some words of comfort after Alf brings news that a search party has left in a second copter. "I suppose it is the best way to spot burning wreckage", she says. "From the sky." Thanks for that, love. With any luck they'll spot Godzilla too and give us all a bit of warning.

Emotional scars? Pah! Forget 'em for a moment as we've got a physical one to talk about. The burn on Matilda's neck makes her look like she's had a run-in on the set of Alien and she's none too pleased when even the nurses in the corridor point and stare. At the desk, she notices her mother pleading with the plastic surgeon. "She used to be so beautiful", Beth sobs, as Matilda begins to flake out. Thankfully, it's just a bad dream - and the scar is nowhere near as bad in soapreality. But another nightmare begins when Tony announces that Kit and Robbie were aboard the helicopter that went down. Beth remains positive - "They're strong, they're smart and they've been through a hell of a lot more before this" - but Rachel is convinced that they were all doomed. A shocking radio report, in which they play a sound recording from the chopper's final moments in the air, seems to confirm this. "Flamin mongrels!" shouts Alf. "What were they thinking about, putting that on the wireless?" Funnily enough, everybody begins to feel rather less hopeful after they've heard the bone-chilling screams of their loved ones plummeting back to earth. OK, you can start thinking about those emotional scars again now. Ours and yours.

"We have to face the reality of the situation", Rachel exclaims, explaining to Alf that helicopters, failed engines and gravity make a pretty sickening combo. Unfortunately, Tasha and Irene overhear her fatalistic thoughts and become more than a little distressed. The upset continues when a media reporter barges into the hospital and tries to pester the victims' families about "how they feel" (stupid question alert). Thankfully, Alf is on hand to dish out a piece of his mind, get his blood pressure up and smash the hack's Dictaphone on the floor. Meanwhile, Irene tries to comfort Tasha as she breaks down in her arms. "What will I do without Robbie?" she cries, while rubbing her pregnant belly. Well, how about go into premature labour? After all, we might as well keep the momentum going. The poor girl's cries make us wince, while Irene - seemingly out of sympathy - begins having kittens. Tasha is barely six months gone, remember, and a baby born this early would have a tiny chance of survival. Could this be the Godzilla moment we've been expecting?

Tuesday 24th October

No news is good news - apart from when you're hunting for the unlikely survivors of a helicopter crash in the mountains. A tense Alf mans the radio as Tony reports that the foot search is finally about to begin. However, the area they need to comb is huge, dense and uphill all the way. Sally orders our dear old Uncle Alf to take a breather, but he's in a bullish frame of mind and won't be told what to do. Meanwhile, the animosity between Ric and Cassie notches up a gear when Madam heads back to Macca's bedside. Macca - or Michael to his mum - is listening to radio reports about the crash and becoming increasingly frustrated. The big drongo wants to help out on the search, despite still having an arm that's not yet free from the threat of amputation. And back in the Surf Club, Alf is really beginning to feel the pressure. Colleen tipping a cup of coffee over his arm doesn't help matters. Sally steps in to calm him down, but he just lashes out at her too. "I'll take a break when I'm good and ready, Sal", he roars. "In the meantime, just keep out of the way and let me do my job." You heard the man, Sal. Just make sure you're there when it all goes even more wrong...

OK. So you're going into premature labour and your husband has probably just been killed. What do you want the doctors to do? Chances are, you'd like them to do something more than advise you to "breathe". Poor Tasha is wide-eyed, panicking and certain that she's about to lose a second life in as many days - and it's not long before she takes the doc's advice a little too far and begins hyperventilating. Despite the medication, the woman's contractions continue - and her pulse is rocketing off the scale. Thankfully, solace comes in the form of Jack, who is wheeled into the room following a tip-off from a nurse. He takes Tasha by the hand and, after advising her to "Look at moiieee", she finally begins to focus and starts taking some much-needed deep breaths. Jack's ability to get through to Tasha is nothing short of amazing - and there's huge relief when the contractions begin to ease off. Thanks to him, Tasha's bun is going to stay in the oven for a while longer. So that's one crisis averted, but don't crack open the champagne just yet.

The mountain search is still proving fruitless. And we're sure that the addition of a limping idiot to the rescue crew is going to be more of a hindrance than a help. Yep, that's right - Cassie discovers that Macca has escaped from the hospital and smashed in his pocket radio his way out. (Oh, it's a bad week to be a small electrical item in Summer Bay.) Alf broadcasts the news that Macca is on his way; Ric soon spots him and follows him deep into the bush. However, Macca isn't about to take advice from anyone - let alone the other boy in our latest love triangle - and refuses to stop searching for his sister. An argument erupts between the pair, and the subject soon turns to Cassie. Ric thinks that, if Macca loved her, he'd go back to hospital so she could have one fewer thing to worry about. But these words have no effect, and Ric promptly decides to leave him to it - before turning tail and falling into a ravine! As if the local hospital wasn't busy enough. Anyway, he ends up dangling over a steep drop and clinging to a rock by his fingernails. We're almost surprised that Godzilla isn't below him, snapping at his heels. Will one-armed bandit Macca save the day - or will he let his love rival tumble to his death?

Home And Away just is so thrilling at the moment :)
