I began writing this the night Phil came back and was arrested, as i HATED ian for telling the police where Phil was, That was a really EVIL thing to do.
so here we go, tell me what you think...........
Eventful beginnings
Part 1
The rain began to fall, the raindrops hit the windscreen and the wipers swished musically.
She looked up and in the mirror, the lights blinding her eyes, she blinked but it was too late. The car swerved and shuddered as a body rolled over the hood and hit the wet windscreen smearing it with blood.
She screamed the only sound to be heard but for the screeching of brakes on the wet road. Her heart bounded in the chest, blood ringing in her ears.
Ian lay in the wet cement, blood seeping out of his head and running away with the rain.
Freya sat back against the seat as the car swung to a holt, her breathing was fast and audible. She closed her eyes and swallowed back the panic she felt rising in her throat.
It was silent, eerie and cold. The loud knock on the window rang in her head and had her jumping in her seat, she looked into the brilliantly clear, icy blue eyes. She tore her gaze from his eyes to his mouth watching his lips move.
She rolled down the window, taking a deep breath of the cold night air.
Jake- are you all right?
Freya- I... I... I...
Jake- are you hurt? are you in shock?
Freya- no I’m... I’m fine
Danny- Jake it's Ian Beale
Jake- ave you called an ambulance?
Danny- All ready done
good, thought that was well evil what Ian did. Hope ian dies or is paralysed.

Eventful beginnings, pt 2...
The blue, red and white lights flashed around her, what had she done? She’d killed a man.
DC Malloy- Miss Galloway, can you tell me what happened?
Freya shook her head, I don’t know
DC Malloy- You need to think, why did you swerve?
Freya- the lights
DC Malloy- lights, where?
Freya- the lights were bright, then a bang, tears rolled down her face, I hit him
DC Malloy- so you looked behind you and were blinded by the lights?
Freya- yeh
DC Malloy- Did you swerve?
Freya- I hit him, the shudder and loud thud would echo in her mind, in her dreams for years to come
DC Malloy- The paramedics are going to take you to the hospital now
Freya lay back on the bed, her neck in a collar, hospital?
DC Malloy- Just to make sure you’re ok, do you want me to contact anyone?
Freya sighed as she felt the pain relief swim through her blood stream, there is no one
Freya opened her eyes to see a white light rushing passed her, what?
Doctor- you’re ok Miss Galloway
Freya- where am I?
Doctor- your in hospital, your heart just stopped and we brought you back
Freya- back?
Doctor- we’re going to make sure your ok, check you over now
DC Dallas walked up to the Beale house, it was cloaked in darkness and unsuspecting of the words she was about to speak, those alone would change lives, children's lives forever.
Freya sat in the hospital bed, looking around her at the doctors rushing around saving lives. She’d destroyed one tonight, she’d killed a man and shattered a family.
DC Malloy- Miss Galloway, can I talk to you?
Freya- Yes, what’s going to happen?
DC Malloy- we need to talk to you about what happened
Freya- I didn’t mean it, a single tear rolled down her cheek, I’m sorry

Jane sat in the Kitchen, the sun shining through the window, with DC Malloy.
DC Malloy-I’m sorry Mrs Collins
Jane- but how?
DC Malloy- there was an accident, and he died on the way to hospital
Jane- he’s dead?
DC Malloy- I’m afraid so, I know this is a big shock but could you tell me what Mr Beale was doing walking around the streets at 12o’clock in the morning?
Jane- We had a row, shouting
DC Malloy- About?
Jane- the kids, working late, I told him to work out his priorities and went to bed.
DC Malloy- did he come to bed?
Jane- I don’t know, I was angry at him and fell straight to sleep
DC Malloy- thank you for your time Mrs Collins, I know it’s a difficult time for you
Jane stood up looking around lost, ok thanks
DC Malloy- I’ll see myself out
That morning the square was bussing with news and rumours about the accident.
Chrissie- you’ve heard about it
Little Mo- I know what a terrible thing
Chrissie- do you think we should send flowers or a card or something?
Little Mo- that would be nice, yeh I think we should
Jake walked through the doors of the Vic and smiled when he spotted Chrissie at the bar. He carried on smiling a when he got to the bar.
Chrissie- what are you smiling at?
Jake- your sunny cheer
Chrissie- really, what do you want?
Jake’s eyes glittered, what I really want
Chrissie laughed, down boy this is a family pub
Jake laughed, in that case I’ll have a pint
Chrissie lent forward on the bar, please
Jake leaned closer, please
Chrissie smiled, sure and she moved away.
DC Malloy knocked on Pauline’s front door and waited for her to answer, she turned to her partner, take the next one
DC Dallas- will do
Pauline opened the door, hello
DC Malloy pulled out her badge, Hello Mrs Fowler I’m DC Malloy, I’m investigating the incident last night, could I come in
Pauline’s gaze had already swept over the badge she held out, of course
DC Dallas buzzed both flats in the building hoping to find some one home.
Gus- yes
DC Dallas- I’m DC Dallas, I’d like to speak to you about the incident earlier this morning
Gus- sure, I’m buzzing you in
Pauline- I just can’t believe it
DC Malloy- I’m sorry for your lose Mrs Fowler, his next of kin ahs been informed
Pauline- But I’m his aunty
DC Malloy- His partner was his registered next of kin, we’ve informed her, I’m sure she’s need a lot of support
Pauline- yes of course and the children
DC Malloy- can you tell me of any reason why Mr Beale would be out at that time?
Pauline- I don’t know, I just don’t know
Gus- I mean I knew him but not that well
DC Dallas sat in the living room of Gus’s small apartment; you wouldn’t know what he was doing last night? At that time of night?
Gus- I’m sorry man, I just don’t know him that well
DC Dallas- Thank you for your time, if you think of anything, he pulled his card out of his pocket, please contact me

Part 4
Chrissie- here Mo did you wana take those flowers over to Jane?
Mo- do you think it’s too early?
Chrissie- she’d appreciate it, wouldn’t she?
Jake- I think you should
Chrissie- who asked you
Jake shrugged his shoulders, just another opinion
Mo- yeh, yeh I think I will
Chrissie- thanks Mo
Jake- why didn’t you take them
Chrissie smiled, why didn’t you offer?
Jake- because
Chrissie- come to think about it, you’ve been funny today
Jake- watching a guy die kinda takes it outta ya
Chrissie lent forward, you saw it? The accident?
Jake- Yeh the girl was really shook up
Chrissie closed her hand over his, I’m really sorry
Jake- yeh, me too
Chrissie- do you wana talk about it?
Jake- nah I’m ok
Chrissie kissed his cheek if your sure
Jake held her hand and lent closer as she drew back, now that you mention it
Chrissie laughed, I know your game Mr Moon
Jake sighed as she slipped away, it was worth a shot
DC Dallas- did you get anything?
DC Malloy- absolutely zilch, he was a good guy, family man. It doesn’t make sense to them
DS Dallas-tell me about it
DC Malloy- back to the scene of the crime
DS Dallas smiled, yes boss
Freya sat lying back on the hospital bed in a nightgown. Her hair was a pale blonde that fell to her shoulders, her eyes were as green as summer grass and her chin had a small dent where a man could brush his finger. Her neck was in a collar and her arm in plaster but she was alive. Her slim build and thin skin would carry bruises reminding her day after day of the horror she had caused. She’d remembered the loud thud and the sight of a man being shocked to life in the back of an ambulance, she couldn’t get them out of her head.
Nurse- how are you feeling?
Freya- I don’t know
Nurse- you’ll be feeling better soon
Freya- I killed him didn’t I?
Nurse from what the police have said it was an accident
Freya began to cry, tears falling silently down her bruised cheeks
Nurse- it was an accident, she passed Freya a tissue, you can’t blame yourself
Freya- but I’m alive and he’s-
The nurse took her hand, it was an accidents they happen all the time and there never anyone’s fault.
Danny- I know I couldn’t believe it, it was like slow motion
Minty- what did the police say?
Danny took a swallow of his beer and looked across at the faces sat around him. It was an accident, he walked out, she swerved too late
Minty- not a nice way to go
Danny- your own blood on the pavement
Garry- yeh well, he was a good guy
Minty- yeh I suppose he was
Danny- yeh well even the good un’s gotta leave this life

Part 5
Freya sat flicking through a magazine, she was restless, she’d always hated hospitals, the creepy sounds and smells. They brought back bad memories, but when faced with those memories she’d rather face the fact that she’d killed a man.
DC Malloy and DS Dallas walked over to Freya’s bed, I’m sorry to comeback but we’d thought you’d like to know
Freya- what is it?
DC Malloy- it appears that Mr Beale had been driving and CCTV footage shows that he walked out into the road, it isn’t your fault
Freya- really? The hope in her voice showed on her face
DS Dallas- yes, there was nothing you could have done
Freya- what about his family?
DC Malloy- they’ve been informed
Freya- I’d like to send a card, I am sorry
DC Malloy- maybe you should wait a while, why don’t I have a counsellor come here to see you? It might help, to talk things through
Freya- erm… ok
DS Dallas- you’ll be able to go home soon
Freya smiled at them, thank you
DC Malloy- we’re just doing our job
Freya- thank you anyway
They nodded and walked away from her bed and out of the ward
Nurse- here you need to take these
Freya- ok, she took the pills and swallowed them with the water provided
Nurse- you’ll need to rest
Freya- I’ve been resting for 3 days in here, I think I’ll go for a walk
Nurse- ok but be back in 10 minutes
Freya smiled for the first time in days, thank you
Nurse- 10 minutes
Jane sat in the living room of her home with out Ian, staring at the walls around her
Lucy- Jane
Jane wiped her eyes, what is it Luce?
Lucy- are you ok?
Jane- yeh I’m ok
Lucy- I miss him you know
Jane- yeh me too, listen can you go and get Peter, I need to talk to you both about something
Lucy- what is it?
Jane- why don’t you go and get peter and I’ll get us some drinks
Dot- oh Pauline how you feeling?
Pauline- oh I don’t know |Dot, I just can believe it
Dot- it’s such a terrible thing, how are you coping?
Pauline- I’m ok I think, but poor Jane she doesn’t know what she’s doing
Dot- and those poor children
Pauline- yeh I’m going round to see them later
Dot- they’ll be grateful, would you like a cup of tea?

Jane- right guys well, well with your dad not here anymore
Peter- he’s dead, tears glistened in his eyes
Jane- I know Peter and I know it’s really hard to think about, but now that’s he’s died we need to think about where you’re going to stay
Lucy- I want to stay here
Jane laid her hands over Lucy’s making her look at her, I know it’s really hard to think about but because me and you’re dad weren’t married, I can’t look after you
Lucy- but I don’t want to go, I want to stay here with you
Jane watched as tears slipped down Lucy’s cheeks, the child was now an orphan and she couldn’t do what she wanted, and I want to stay with you guys but I’ve spoken to your gran and she thinks it would be best if you went to stay with her
Peter- but what about dad? And the funeral?
Lucy- in South Africa
Jane- hey hey, just calm down, you need to listen to me
Lucy- you said you wanted to stay with us
Jane- and I do but your Gran thinks after the funeral you can go and live with her and Ben in South Africa
Peter stood up and knocked the coffee table, but I want to stay here
Jane- I’m sorry Peter I really am, tears rolled down her own cheeks unnoticed, but it’s hard for me too, but I’m not a relation, I’m not your step-mum, I just can’t, Jane slumped to the floor, her head in her hands, her whole body shaking
Lucy- Jane
Peter- Jane I’m sorry
Jane lifted her head, I’m sorry, I can’t I’m sorry
Jake walked into the café and spotted Danny sitting at a table eating something. He wandered over and watched Danny try and smile charmingly, oi
Danny- what?
Jake sat down, shouldn’t you be at work?
Danny- I’m going in a minute
Jake- I hear you’ve been talking about what happened with Ian
Danny- so is there a law against it?
Jake- just watch what you say, you usually act before thinking
Danny- you heard oat about the driver?
Jake- nah, n I don’t expect to, come on Johnny ain’t guna be happy if we’re late
Danny- you can tell him you’ve been trying to catch Chrissie up AGAIN
Jake hit over the head, just move that smart mouth into gear will ya!
Freya was dressed in jeans and a stylish t-shirt and was packing her small bag. Her plastered arm hung loosely by her side. Her blonde hair fell into her face so she tucked it back behind her ear and zipped up her bag.
Doc- Miss Galloway
Freya smiled at him, yes
Doc- are you sure you’re ready to go home?
Freya- I’m feeling really good
Doc- you’ll need to wear the collar for another week
Freya slumped, really?
The doctor smiled, I’m afraid so, here are the out patients appointments for your arm
Freya- thanks
Doc- here are you prescriptions make sure you get them it’s only for another week
Freya took the pieces of card and stuck them in here back pocket, anything else?
Doc- that’s it make sure you got to the appointments
Freya- held out her hand, yeh I will
The doctor shook her hand gently, don’t let me see you in here again
Freya’s smile dimmed as she remembered the reason she had been there, ok thanks you won’t!
The next morning Kathy stepped out of the car dressed in black and walked towards the door. She rang the bell and took deep breath. Jane opened the door to see a pretty blonde smiling at her, hi
Kathy held out her hand, I’m Kathy, Ian’s mum, you’re Jane
Jane blinked, oh right yeh, sorry, sorry, grief passed briefly across her face, come in
Peter stood at the top of the stairs in his pyjamas, who is it?
Jane- why don’t you and Lucy come down and see, she wiped her hand nervously on the tea-towel she was holding
Lucy- Gran
Kathy held out her arms, hiya sweetheart, a tear rolled down her cheek as she hugged her gran-daughter.

Part 7
Freya sat outside the hospital waiting for her taxi. She looked around at the people waiting and felt the tears form again. What was she going to do? Where was she going to go? She had nobody and nowhere to go. She’d brought a house over a week before this was her new start the beginning of the rest of her life and she was afraid to go. A black taxi pulled to the curb in front of her and beeped its horn, the driver leant companionley out of the window, Galloway?
Freya- that’s me, she got up to open the door
Driver- where to love?
Freya sighed the only place she had, Albert Square please
Dot- Jim
Jim sighed as his plan to go to the bookies anD then to the Vic for a drink vanished, yes my love
Dot-number 29’s been sold
Jim looked curiously out of the window, hot do you know?
Dot took a cigarette from her packet on the table and lit it, the estate agents took the sign down yesterday
Jim edged closer to the e=window, to get a clearer view, really?
Dot- stop being so nosey, have you seen Pauline? It’s been nearly a week since the you know
Jim scratched his head, the accident?
Dot- now you mention it Pauline’s worried about Jane
Jim- well she ain’t guna wana be smiling happily or oat is she?
Dot- I know but
Jim- weren’t you guna go and see Pauline?
Dot pulled her coat from the off the hook in the hall, you’re right I’ll pop over and see Jane later.
Kathy- so?
Jane- I don’t know what to say?
Kathy- take your time, look I don’t men to push have you started to make arrangements?
Jane’s faced paled from grey to a ghostly white, well erm…
Kathy- I don’t want to have to think about it either, but…
Jane- but it needs to be done, I’ll start
Kathy smiled and took Jane’s hand, I’ll help you
Jane- thanks, I can’t believe it, what am I guna do now?
Chrissie watched Jake enter the Vic, she smiled she always did when she saw him. She knew she told Mo it was just a bit of attention but she liked him, very much. He was good looking; funny, interesting of course she liked him. She laughed and turned to serve Alfie, what can I get you?
Alfie- pint please Chrissie
Chrissie- you all right Alfie?
Alfie- yeh
Chrissie placed the pint in front of him, cheer up Alfie it can’t be that bad
Alfie smiled, yeh I suppose your right, looks like you’ve got an admirer
Chrissie looked down the bar at Jake, yeh
Alfie smiled at the couple, he’s a good person
Chrissie- you telling me I’m wasting time?
Alfie- no, I’m just saying you need to take your time, I know. His face clouded with thoughts, I know
Chrissie- he hasn’t got you to put a good word in has he?
Alfie blinked back the thoughts, what?
Chrissie sighed, I didn’t think so
Alfie- what?
Chrissie- forget it, she looked down the bar and smiling walked towards Jake
Jake- hello
Chrissie- you keep staring people will notice
Jake grinned- notice what?
Chrissie laughed, you know what
Jake leans towards her, so
Chrissie leant on the bar, so what?
Jake smiled, why don’t you come down to the club tonight?
Chrissie- I’m working
Jake- not all night
Chrissie- I need my beauty sleep Jake
Jake- no you don’t
Chrissie laughed, flattery will get you everywhere Jake Moon
Jake- even to you? He laid his hand over hers on the bar
Chrissie smiled at him, maybe
Jake- come down to the club
Chrissie leant closer and pinched his nose
Jake- oi
Chrissie you’ll have to try a lot harder than that Jakey boy
Jake grinned, but I need some practice
Chrissie pointed behind him, there’s always Pauline

Danny- that was pitiful bro
Jake turned around and was faced with Danny, where’s Chrissie?
Danny- she’s not interested, why don’t you let me try
Jake laughed, in your dreams Danny
Danny grinned, hey Chrissie
Chrissie turned from talking to Little Mo, yes Danny
Danny- there’s a new film on at the cinema
Chrissie- is there now
Danny- I’ve got two tickets, why don’t you come with me
Chrissie laughed, yeh right, what can I get you Derek?
Jake snorted out a laugh, yeh real smooth
Danny- what?
Jake carried on laughing and turned to watch Chrissie
Freya placed the sunglasses on her nose and paid for the taxi. She jangled the keys in her hand as she walked towards her home, 29 Albert Square.
Johnny and tine walked by arm in arm and completely ignored Freya.
Freya got to the door and opened it with her shiny new keys, she took a deep breath and stepped over the threshold and closed the door behind her.
Dot who was that?
Jim- who Dorothy?
Dot- who went in next door
Jim- I didn’t see anybody, you must be seeing things my dear
Dot- a girl with long blonde hair just went into number 29
Jim- I don’t know then Dorothy, but if I don’t put these huge shopping bags down, I’ll seize up
Dot put the key in the door and opened it, oh Jim don’t be so dramatic

Part 9
Jane looked at herself in the full length mirror. The black flowed down her body and skimmed her feet with were also in black. The make up she’d carefully applied a full ten minutes before was cracked and had run down her face. Today was the funeral of her fiancé; who had died 9 days earlier, after walking out on her during an argument, about spending too much time away from home. How stupid had she been? He hadn’t spent that much time at work; he was a busy businessman he had to. The tears formed in her eyes again and spilt over before she could blink them back; they ran down her face and sent a fresh line of mascara racing down her pale cheeks. What had she done?
Chrissie stood looking out over the eerily silent pub. Hours earlier it had been full of people’s chatter and their music. She could feel the dread and the guilt begin to form in the air. She sighed to herself and was on the verge of tears when the doors to the Vic opened.
Jake- morning, wondered if you wanted a hand>
Chrissie- a hand with what?
Jake grinned at her, setting up, what did you think I meant?
Chrissie sighed at his cute smile, fine, ok
Jake just stood staring at her
Chrissie- what? Have I got something on my face? She rubbed her cheek with her hand
Jake- no you’re totally gorgeous
Chrissie smiled, yeh?
Jake smiled back, absolutely
Chrissie- well why don’t you help this totally gorgeous woman out and use those strong muscles of yours
Jake pulled up his sleeves, what’s mine is yours and all that
Chrissie smiled again, thanks
Jake- no problem, we’ll talk about payment later
Chrissie- snorted, will we now
Jake held up a chair grinning, where do you want it?
Chrissie- right up-
Jake- hey there’s no need to get nasty
Chrissie laughed and walked back up the stairs grinning to herself.
Martin and Sonia sat the small table in the dining room staring at each other in silence. Pauline sat on the sofa sipping her cup of tea.
Martin- maybe we should get going?
Pauline placed her cup on its saucer gently; well I suppose we don’t want to be late
Martin held out her coat, she pulled her scarf from his hands and folded it neatly over her shoulders before turning and placing her arms in to her coat.
Sonia zipped up her coat the only sound that could be heard above the three breathing.
Martin- come on hen mum
Pauline did up the last of her buttons, here we are again
Sonia- it’s ok, we’ll get through this together
Pauline- huh, well
Freya opened her eyes and looked around the room. She smiled to herself and threw back the duvet. She danced around the room and putting the radio she began to sing while she gathered her dressing gown for a shower.

Jane and Kathy flanked the twins like guards at a gate by Ian’s graveside. Lucy’s hand was gripping Kathy’s like a vice, her knuckles were as white as her face. Jane watched the long wooden coffin being lowered into the ground as her vision began to blur with tears. Peter looked up at Jane and watched the tears fall down her cheeks again, so he turned and hugged her tightly letting the tears fall himself.
Vicar- we now commence our brother Ian to the ground and into god’s care
Somebody began to wail as Ian was placed in the grave with a slight thud
Vicar- ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Peter- Jane
Jane knelt down in front of peter and wrapped her arms around him in a hug, I know darling, I know.
Dot and Jim entered the Vic and looked around at the food and moved tables.
Dot- it’s a lovely spread
Jim- Ian would be proud, pint please Chrissie
Chrissie nodded, it go okay?
Dot- it was a lovely service
Chrissie pulled Jim his pint; here you go Jim, Dot?
Dot- a small sherry, dry
Chrissie poured the drink and watched Jake under her lashes
Jane- thanks for this Chrissie
Chrissie smiled, its okay, how are you?
Jane shrugged her shoulders, I don’t know
Chrissie gripped her hand and smiled, you’ll get through it, you’re strong,
Jane watched something unreadable sparkled in Chrissie’s eyes, maybe it was understanding, but she smiled back at her, thanks
Dot- well?
Chrissie pit Dots drink in front of her, the poor thing
Dot- it’s such a waste, such a waste
The phone began to ring, oh sorry Dot, let me just get that
Chrissie walked past Jake and Danny and picked up the phone, hello, oh hi Mo, what? No no that’s fine, no don’t worry you stay at home, ok I’ll see you tomorrow. Chrissie huffed out a breath when she reached the bar, great
Jake- what’s wrong?
Chrissie- Nothing
Jake continued to look at her questioningly
Chrissie- its Little Mo she can’t come in today, Freddie’s got a temperature and a cough
Jake- so
Chrissie- well I’m short staffed now aren’t i
Jake- Get Tracy in
Chrissie- oh shut up
Jake managed to suppress a grin, what?
Chrissie folded her arms; I gave her the dat off
Jake laughed, why don’t I give you a hand?
Chrissie- no thank you
Jake grinned at her, come on you’ll need some help later
Chrissie snorted, I’ll do fine thanks
Jake got up from his stool at the bar and walked around the bar to stand next to her, well I’m here now aren’t I
Chrissie gaped at him, go away
Jake walked down the bar, yes Martin
Martin looked from Jake’s smiling face to Chrissie’s shocked one, erm… a pint and a vodka lemon please
Jake tapped the bar with his fingers, coming up
Chrissie- you’re not serving
Jake smiled at her, oh yes I am, I work at a club remember
Chrissie- Jake you can’t
Jake was all ready pulling Martin’s pint, I want to help you
Chrissie- Jake
Jake looked up at her, a small smile forming on his lips
She couldn’t help but smile at him, ok thanks

Eventful Beginnings
Part 11
Freya had been living in her new home on the square for 3 days now and she still hadn’t gone past the front door. She sat in the living room on the sofa with the telly murmuring in the background. She looked down at the cards in her hands, the doctor had given her them, they had her appointments. Today was the day she was booked in to get rid of her neck collar. The clock on the wall outside in the hall began to bong the hour, she sighed and looked down at herself, she was still wearing the grey bottoms and white tank top she’d slept in. she sighed again, she’d got 2 hours before the appointment, she’d think about going.
Jane stood in the freezing cold, the wind blowing like chilly fingers over her face and through her hair. Her black coat swirled around her ankles as she stared down at the fresh grave.
Kathy laid a supportive hand on Jane’s shoulder, are you ready
Jane wiped away the tears that were running down her cheeks, yeh come on, she kissed her fingers and laid them on Ian’s headstone, I’ll always love you, always babe. She turned and walked slowly along the green grass away from him and towards the family she now had.
Danny, Alfie and Nana were sitting in the living room of number 41, watching a film.
Alfie- I’ve not seen a lot of you or Jake lately
Danny- me and Sam made up
Alfie rolled his eyes, oh right
Danny- Jake’s spending a lot of time over the Vic; I think he’s seriously hooked
Alfie- he’s not looked at anyone else but Chrissie
Danny sighed, he needs to get over it, it’s never guna happen
Alfie- just leave him alone Danny
Danny- the guy needs help, hey you and him can go on a double date or summat
Alfie laughed, with who Danny?
Danny- I can set you two up
Alfie- no thanks, I can get my own dates
Danny- come to think of it, I ain’t seen you sniffing after a woman
Alfie- oh shut up Danny
Freya sat on the cheap, white plastic chairs provided my the hospital. She’d been waiting 15 minutes, waiting trying not to think of the memories, looking around trying to find a reason she wanted to be there.
Doctor- Miss Galloway
Freya- that’s me
Doctor- come with me, he opened a wooden door to his left
Freya smiled; can I get this thing off now? It’s an appalling fashion accessory
The doctor laughed as he sat in his dark leather chair, we’ll check you over first
Chrissie and Jake will happen, it will!!!

Jane, Lucy and Peter stood outside number 55 they’re home and Jane smiled at them, are you ready?
They nodded in union, whilst watching the house that was their home
Jane turned and hugged Alfie, thank you
Alfie-take care ok, and I mean it keep in touch with us
Jane- smiled, I will I promise
Little Mo- do you have to go?
Jane- yeh I do
Little mo smiled, ok but you send us photos and letters
Jane- thanks Little Mo, I promise, she turned and saw Pauline talking to the twins
Pauline- you listen to me, I want lots of letters from you two, I want to know everything, how you’re getting on, what you’re doing and you need to help look after Bobby now, ok
The pair nodded and hugged Pauline
Lucy- I’ll miss you Aunty Pauline
Peter- me too
Pauline- I’m only on the other end of the phone
They nodded and climbed in to the back of the car with Bobby and clipped their seat belt in place.
Jane- see ya Pauline
Pauline- you take care and watch those children, you’re all they’ve got
Jane- I know, I will, I promise. She got into the car and sat in the passenger seat next to Kathy, here we go
Kathy smiled at her then looking in the mirror drove away from Albert square
Freya sat in the black leather and turned her head and neck in a small circular motion to gently stretch the muscles.
Doctor- how does it feel?
Freya- stiff
Doctor- it will be for a few days, be careful
Freya- smiled, I will
Doctor- only gentle exercise, loosen the muscles slowly
Freya stood up you got it, bye

Garry and Minty sat in the Vic at lunchtime, munching on burgers and sipping pints.
Garry- I heard Jane went yesterday
Minty- yeh can you imagine?
Garry- her bloke dying on her
Minty- yeh, but she’s gone to start afresh with the kids
Garry- I couldn’t take that on
Minty- what a new life somewhere warm and looking after his kids
Garry- exactly, some people have all the luck
Minty- how do you count that as luck? Minty shook his head and took a sip of his pint
Danny walked out of the stock room at Scarlet and saw Jake staring in to space, what are you doing Jake?
Jake shook his head to clear the little fantasy he’d been building between him and Chrissie, what?
Danny- thinking about Chrissie again?
Jake- ha figures
Danny- hers is pretty good
Jake spared Danny a withering look, really
Danny grinned this would be fun, curvy in all the right places, ain’t she?
Jake- I suppose so, he was trying to ignore Danny and concentrate but it was hard
Danny- the amount of staring you’ve done, you can’t tell me you haven’t noticed
Jake began to grind his teeth, maybe
Danny- but have you noticed the way her butt moves in a skirt?
Jake- shut up Danny
Danny smiled, I think I might try my luck, what do you reckon?

Danny- so you have noticed, and all the time I thought it was her personality sparkling wit
Jake’s breathing was audible, his chest was heaving and his face was full of anger when he swung his fist out and it connected with Danny’s Jaw
Danny wiggled his jaw and smiled, I wondered how long it would take, you did better than I expected Jakey boy
Jake began to breathe deeply; you’re a prat Danny, a real idiot
Danny grinned at Jake, well my work here is done, he trailed off as he spotted Chrissie walking down the stairs
Jake- what are you talking about? He heard the click of heels on wood
Chrissie smiled at them, afternoon boys

Danny- don’t worry I think Jake might need a minute though, and he walked out laughing to himself
Chrissie turned from Danny’s retreating back to Jake, what’s talking about?

Jake moved his gaze up to her face, really

Jake looked puzzled, a clue?
Chrissie laughed, now would be a good time

Jake leant closer this time, I’ll pick you up

Jake leant in and kissed her passionately, Chrissie stood up so she could wind her arms around his neck, their bodies brush as he brought her closer
Jake broke the kiss and smiled at her, count on it
Chrissie unwound her arms and stepped away, I’ll look forward to it

Dot stood behind the counter of the laundrette in her overalls, what is it Jim?
Jim- just checking what you wanted for lunch
Dot- I’ve all read sorted it out as you well know. You can go to the pub for a quick one but woe-betide me if one minute late Jim Branning

Freya- I... I... I...’ she shook her head and ran towards the door of number 29. Jake looked behind him, the hairs on his neck had began to prickle as if chilly fingers as ran over his neck, when he turned he saw a woman with blonde hair running in to her house. He turned away, that was strange
Danny- talking to yourself again bro

Danny- yeh you were, hey what did Chrissie want
A smiled slipped across his face before he could stop it, nothing
Danny laughed, yeh right, nothing, he elbowed Jakes ribs, you scored then

Jim- but it’s their wedding anniversary, their first one
Dot sighed it was true, your right, put her bag down, what are you planning
Chrissie sat at her dressing table, running a comb through her glossy curly locks. She put the comb down and looked at her reflection in the mirror. She smiled as she leaned forward a slicked a bold red on her lips.
Little Mo- hello
Chrissie- well? She stood up in the bold blood red thigh length dress and turned in a small circle
Little Mo- wow you look great
A feline smile slipped over Chrissie’s lips, that’s what I was hoping for
Little mo laughed, it’s a beautiful dress

Freya walked through Albert square and headed straight for the minute mart and stepped inside.
Stacey watched her walk by and pick up a basket
Ruby followed her in, hiya Stace
Stacey looked and smiled, hiya
Ruby- I’ve the afternoon off, no lessons
Stacey- cool, well I finish in 15 minutes
Ruby- we can go and get some lunch
Stacey- sounds good, we got to the café

Sharon and Dennis stepped out if a black taxi on the opposite side of the square, they looked around them, they were home again.
Sharon- it feels different
Dennis- yeh, he linked his fingers with hers, come on let’s get up there

Dennis kissed her gently, I called and checked, he slipped his arms around her waist, plus I order us a new bed, he smiled slyly, king size

Jake held out Chrissie’s chair at the small, intimate, candle light restaurant, your seat madam. He watched her, she was beautiful
Chrissie smiled at him, thank you sir, she picked up the menu from the table, but looked around, then again, it’s a great place

Chrissie raised her eyebrows so high at the prices they nearly touched her hair, expensive to

Sharon and Dennis sat in the lounge on a small futon. Sharon had her legs curled under her and her head rested on Dennis chest; his arm was around her waist. Music was playing in the background he’d put on earlier.

Dennis smiled at the lyrics, do you remember this?
Sharon turned her head so she could look up at him and saw him smiling, valentine’s day, the memory made her smile

Sonia and Martin sat watching each other eating their meal over the candle light table

A grin spread over Jim’s face as he got up from his position on the sofa in front of the TV
Freya looked at the plan she’d drawn up for the house; she’d redecorated it room by room. The lounge would have a bold blue on the fireplace wall and the one opposite then cream on the window wall, brighten the place up she thought. She was sat in the kitchen at a small wooden table that been left there by the previous occupants eating a bowl of soup. She broke of a piece of the crusty bread she’d brought at the minute mart and thought about moving her all her furniture out of storage and in the house she was sitting.

Freya sat in the lounge of her house with the telly on and a bottle of white wine sitting on the coffee table. Her mobile phone rang and made her jump, she stared at it, at who it could be, the fear crept through her insides and turned them to ice. She picked it up and watched at the name flashing on the screen, Dylan. She swallowed and though she wanted to be sick, she accepted the call, hello
Dylan- where the hell have you been, why haven’t you been answering your phone, she could hear the anger and frustration in his voice
Freya- sorry I’ve been really busy, she cringed knowing he’d begin to shout
Dylan- I’ve not seen you in 3 weeks, he’d raised his voice as she’d expected, had begun to shout
Freya- I’ll come this weekend, she said quickly knowing this would calm him instantly
Dylan seemed to calm slightly, ok
Freya- I’m just guna get in the bath, can I call you tomorrow?
Dylan- make sure you do, his voice seemed final
Freya- I will, I’ll speak to you tomorrow
Dylan- good night
Freya squeezed her eyes shut and let the tear slip down her cheek, good night
She let the shakes come once the phone was back on the coffee table, her stomach was doing somersaults and her insides were shivering from the cold. Freya looked at the straw coloured wine and grabbed the bottle, she’d find oblivion and it would all be ok, it would be over for now.

Part 18
Sharon stood beside their new bed with her two medium sized suitcases open on the covers, she looked over her choices while in the pale purple dressing gown Dennis had brought her months before.
Dennis walked in the room to find her clothes everywhere, he blinked, how’d you get into such a mess in the time it took me to have a shower?
Sharon looked up at him, he’d wrapped a towel round his waist but his chest was still wet, excuse me, this is not a mess, I’m trying to decide what to wear
Dennis looked at her puzzled, why where we going?
Sharon sighed; we’re going to face our public
Dennis- ok, you’ve gone insane
Sharon turned to look at him; we’re going into the square for the first time in 6 months, as a couple Dennis
Dennis- there’s an outfit for that kinda thing? Hey have I got one, a grin split onto his face as he looked at her flustered face
Sharon laughed she couldn’t help it, he made it seem ridiculous, it’s not funny
Dennis took her shoulders and rubbed gently, I know you’re nervous but like we said before this is our home, and I don’t care what people say
Sharon- I know, I don’t care either, but it’s just
Dennis- Den’s done a lot of damage
Sharon- Dennis he nearly destroyed us, he made you and everyone around you think that Zoe was carrying your child
Dennis- but she wasn’t and I want everyone to know that, I don’t care about her or Den, I love you and this is our home
He made it sound so simple, she wanted it to be, but she knew it would be hard, and I love you too, she rose on her toes and kissed him, ok, she took a deep breath, red or blue?
He laughed and kissed her, wrapping his arms around her waist, holding her to him, why don’t we decide later, he said against her mouth in a steamy kiss
Freya slowly woke with the bright sun in her eyes, she blinked and trying to sit up but fell off the sofa and found her self on the floor. She looked around the room and saw the two wine bottles, empty; her head began to viciously throb behind her eyes. Ouch, she closed her eyes to try and relieve the pain then remembered the phone call, that’s why she’d again drank herself to sleep, better than crying she thought, but just lay on the floor and waited for the shudders to pass.
Chrissie lay in bed thinking about the night before, she’d been treated like a princess, like something special and he’d made her believe she was. She smiled when she remembered the walk they taken after the meal; they walked to a nearby park and had strolled through it completely alone hand in hand. The moon had been a fat white ball in the sky and had made the moment seem even more romantic, not that she’d let him know, she was having fun, enjoying herself and that’s all that mattered. When they’d gotten out of the taxi that had pulled up outside the Vic, he’d kissed her, but she’d shut the door in face, things were going fast and they had left her breathless.

Freya had a shower then sat on her bed and pondered what she wanted to wear, she didn’t want to go out and face the world, she wanted to curl up in a ball and hide, that’s the reason she was pushing herself to get dressed, to go out and beat back the ghosts.
Pauline sat in the laundrette with Dot sipping tea and looking at the plate of biscuits
Dot- what’s wrong Pauline?
Pauline sighed, nothing: just these past few weeks have put things in perspective
Dot- it’s been a trying time

Eventful Beginnings
Part 20
Freya decided it was now or never, she’d added a little make up to her pale face. She’d dressed in light jeans that cut off mid shin to expose her naturally bronzed legs and a pale green vest, which had a slight dip to show off her bronzed chest. She’d added earrings and a necklace to the outfit, a little amour to make her feel confidant. She took a deep breath and grabbing her small black bag from off a hook in the hall opened the door and immediately closed it behind her. The loud snap of wood meeting wood made her jump, she took a deep cleansing breath and began walking. To where she didn’t know but she could walk, would walk around in the sunshine so that it could warm her frozen skin.
Jake walked passed the Vic on his way to work, he stopped and looked up at the windows, he smiled but carried decided to carry on going and bumped straight into Freya, Sorry
Freya- no It’s my fault, she looked at him and smiled, sorry, She bent down and pickup up the folder he’d dropped
Jake squinted at her, do I know you? You seem familiar
Freya- no I just moved here, if he didn’t remember she couldn’t, wouldn’t tell him, not about that night. I’m Freya, Freya Andrews
Jake- I’m Jake Moon
Freya- nice to meet you Jake, she saw him look at his watch, any way I have to go and I won’t keep you
Jake- I’ll see you around
Freya nodded, I’m sure, when he strode passed her, she felt the relief pour through her body like wine and sighed.
Zoe- he is gorgeous
Freya opened her eyes and got her first look at Zoe Slater, yeh
Zoe held out her hand, I’m Zoe, I’ve not seen you before you must be new
Freya shook her hand, just moved here, I’m Freya
Zoe pointed to her arm, how’d you do that?
Freya put a protective hand over her cast, an accident

Freya walked slowly across the square and suddenly stopped, she could see the house and feel the dread. She took a deep breath and turning looked at the Vic, might as well she thought.
Pauline and Dot sat in the Vic having drink while they looked over brochures of America
Dot- ooh look at that, you can go on a trip all over the place
Pauline- but Michelle’s in Florida
Dot- have they got trips there, what do they call ‘em, oh that’s right excursions
Pauline- a day trip somewhere
Dot- ooh that’d be nice
Jake walked through the market place intending to go into the café for some lunch when he remembered, the girl, she’d been the one driving the car, the accident. He looked across at the Vic and walked over to it and through the doors.
Chrissie looked up as the doors opened and watched Jake smile at her, she poured Charlie’s pint and smiled back, that £2 Charlie
Charlie handed her some money, haven’t seen Kat today have you?
Chrissie was watching Jake out of the corner of her eyes, she watched him walked up to the bar and smile at her again. No sorry Charlie
Big mo- hey Charlie have you seen Kat, she’s meant to be at home?
Charlie- no
Chrissie- maybe she’s with Zoe on the stall
Big Mo- yeh I never thought of that, thanks Chrissie, an orange juice please

Jake smiled when she pulled down a glass from above his head, hello

Jake- who they looking for?

Jake watched her walk towards him, how are you?

Jake laughed, well why don’t you then get back to me
Chrissie placed a bottle of beer in front of him, I might just do that, she laughed but her smiled faded as she looked over as the doors opened.
Jake followed her gaze and spotted Sharon and Dennis hand in hand in the doorway.

Freya was sat at the bar as everyone around her went slowly quiet; the sudden hush of voices was eerie, she looked at the faces and followed their gaze to the young couple in the doorway. The woman had long blonde hair and was dressed in jeans and a pink long sleeved t-shirt, the man stood beside and held her hand was wearing a simple black t-shirt and jeans, they looked right together.
Chrissie- Sharon, Dennis?
Sharon- hello Chrissie
Chrissie- how are you?
Sharon- oh I’m fine, is Den here?
Chrissie- no
Sharon- well where is he? The silence was making her more and more nervous
Chrissie- he left me, months ago now, for a younger woman
Dennis- he left you? He looked at her confused
Chrissie- yes
Mo- what the hell do you think you’re doing here, how can you show you’re face around here?
Dennis sighed, this is my home Mo, our home; his hand let go of Sharon’s to lie across her shoulders.
Mo- you what? You left Zoe for her?
Dennis- yes, he said it simply, it was the truth after all
Mo- why you cheeky…
Zoe and Kat stumbled in to the silent pub, giggling
Kat- did you see his face
Zoe- I can’t believe you did… Dennis, guilt ran quickly over her face followed by shock
Kat- his name weren’t Dennis; she trailed off and looked across the pub to see Dennis and Sharon.
Kat- him, what are you doing back here?
Dennis- hi Kat nice to see you too, he said dryly
Kat glanced over at Sharon and felt her blood boil, and you, you’re even worse
Zoe- Kat
Kat- what, she turned to look at Zoe, this is her fault
Zoe- Kat can we just go
Sharon- none of what happened is our fault Kat
Kat- it’s your fault he left her, she was pregnant for crying out loud, she had a miscarriage after he left
Chrissie- look I think we all need to just calm down, Sharon, Dennis why don’t you come through, we can talk
Dennis- she wasn’t pregnant when I left
Kat- don’t even think about it, you left her pregnant and alone
Dennis looked over at Zoe and could see she was pale and shaking, she looks ill

Charlie walked passed Dennis and Sharon, the disgust shown clearly on her face, come on Zoe let’s get you home

The people in the pub slowly began to murmur conversations between themselves

Jake glanced up the stairs and then back at Freya who as sipping her drink, she turned her head and meet his stare, the recognition on his face made her want to run, she battled back the urge and set her drink down. Hello again

Freya averted her eyes and picked up her drink, yep

Chrissie took a glass out of the cupboard and turning on the taps filled it with water, so why are you back? She had her back to them, she couldn’t face them, but she knew she had to
Dennis- this is our home
Chrissie- yeh it is, she turn off the tap and swallowed the water to ease her dry throat
Sharon- what happened Chrissie, the night you brought me back, after I left?

Chrissie- he did, she turned to face them, I tried to make him sign the papers, this place, over to me, I’m sorry Sharon, I’m so sorry I should never have involved you

The square was still reeling from the surprise arrival of Dennis and Sharon the day before. The square was thick with gossip and speculation; Freya wandered towards the café and heard people talking about the controversial couple everywhere.
Pauline- can you believe it, he’d have the nerve
Dot- he’s not all-bad Pauline
Pauline huffed out a breath, just like his father
Dot- no he’s not, I’m sorry Pauline but on that I can’t agree
Freya held out a hand to open the door to the café and saw that Zoe wasn’t out on her stall, she looked around but couldn’t see her, so she walked into the café and up to the counter.
Tricia- hi
Freya- can I have a large coffee and a round of toast
Tricia- sure, take a seat
Freya sat down and tried to hide her face from view when she spotted Jake walk in.
Jake gazed wandered around the room and he spotted Freya, she was trying to hide form him, he sighed and took his coffee and wandered away, he didn’t have the time.
Freya let out a sigh of relief and looked up as the coffee and toast was put on the table in front of her, thanks

Freya picked up the coffee and heard her mobile, she looked down at her bag and slowly pulled out her mobile, Dylan’s name flashed on the screen, so she took the cowards way out and left it to ring.
Chrissie stood looking at herself in the mirror, she’d told them a lie, a straight-faced lie to cover her own tracks. Why did she feel so guilty? He hadn’t loved them; not really, he’d torn them apart because he wouldn’t approve. He’d done all this his self, why was she to blame? She took a breath and felt calmer, it wasn’t her fault. She heard a knock at the door; and opened it to see Jake standing in the cellar, Jake

Chrissie smiled back, I’m fine

Jake stood with her in the hall, I have to do this, he leant forward and kissed her

Chrissie- I wasn’t expecting if that’s what you meant, she stepped away from him

Freya walked through the square and tried to make herself enjoy the beautiful sunshine. She hadn’t run into any of the man’s family, but that was only a matter of time she thought. They didn’t know, they didn’t know who she was and what she’d done to them. A dark cloud slipped in front of the sun and turned everything into shadows, which matched her mood.
Sharon lay in bed still, she didn’t want to get up, Chrissie revelation that Den had indeed walked away from her because of Sharon made her feel sick inside. She turned and looked at Dennis asleep beside her. She’d fought and lost him before and she couldn’t bear that again, she ran her fingertip over his cheek.
Dennis- how long have you been awake? He opened his eyes and turned to look at her
Sharon- a while
Dennis looked at her face, her eyes, your thinking about Den
Sharon- what have I done Dennis?
Dennis took her hand, you haven’t done anything, he made his own choice, it wasn’t your fault he left
Sharon- he left because I did
Dennis- his decision and we’re back now
Sharon sighed, yeh your right
Dennis- I’m always right
Sharon laughed and nestled her head in the curve of his shoulder, what about Chrissie?

Freya sat on Arthur’s bench and watched the world pass her by. She thought about the reason she’d come here for a new start, the beginning of the rest of her life. She thought of the plans for the house she’d finished nights before, the colours of the walls and where furniture would go, to make the her home she thought.
Dot wandered through and saw Freya sitting on the bench thinking, she’d seen that look before, made her way over and sat down, it’s a lovely day
Freya opened her eyes, yeh nice and sunny

He was happy, Sharon was happy and that’s all that really mattered. Dennis stepped into the minute mart and saw Stacey serving customs and immediately felt guilty. He tried the charm and walked over to smile at her, hiya Stace
Stacey looked him, what do you want?

Freya looked through the house, finding things in cupboards and drawers; she wanted everything cleaned for when her stuff arrived tomorrow. She was throwing things out and cleaning the dust off surfaces the whole afternoon, it put her mind on hold so she didn’t have to think.

Dennis stepped up to the counter to pay; Stacey didn’t speak to him she just rang the items in the till and threw him a bag.

Dennis handed her some money and put the items into a bag, Stacey I’m sorry

As he stepped out of the minute mart he saw Charlie, Mo and Zoe walk through the market. He stood still and watched them turn their heads when they spotted him.

Dennis stood where he was, yeh I thought you might

By this time all the stalls holders had gone quiet and were watching the group shout and scream at each other. Everyone in the market place was standing still listening to the show.
Dennis stepped between them and glaring at Kat pushed her away from Sharon, just leave her alone, he bent down to pull Sharon to her feet, I’m sick of this, of being painted the bad guy and I’m not letting you attack Sharon, he stood in front of Sharon guarding her, protecting her. Zoe wasn’t pregnant with my baby it was a lie her and Den concocted to keep me away from Sharon.
Kat- that’s a filthy lie, even from you
Zoe- Dennis please don’t
Dennis- and you know what’s even worse, I found her bed with my father, she’d been sleeping with him all along to try and get pregnant
Charlie- how dare you
Dennis- I found them the night I left, she followed me back to the flat and told me she’d never been pregnant she just wanted to keep me here
Chrissie stood in the doorway for the Vic, what’s going on?
Dennis- I’m just setting them straight
Chrissie- what? About… she trailed off and she looked at Zoe pale face and her shaking body
Mo- that’s a lie, Zoe tell him it’s a lie
The Slater’s turned to Zoe who was pale and shaking, waiting for her to say something

Dennis stepped up to the counter to pay; Stacey didn’t speak to him she just rang the items in the till and threw him a bag.
Stacey- £5.70
Dennis handed her some money and put the items into a bag, Stacey I’m sorry

Dennis- look I’m in the flat again, come over when you forgive me
Stacey snorted, Zoë’s flat?
Dennis- it was Sharon’s to begin with, he said testily
Stacey softened when she saw he genuinely meant sorry, that’s guna cus trouble
Dennis smiled, what’s not?
As he stepped out of the minute mart he saw Charlie, Mo and Zoe walk through the market. He stood still and watched them turn their heads when they spotted him.
Mo- oi I want a word with you
Dennis stood where he was, yeh I thought you might
Charlie- what did you think you were doing? Leaving my little girl
Zoe tugged on Charlie’s sleeve, dad just leave it please
Dennis- I left and I’m the bad guy?
Mo- you left her pregnant and alone, you just took off
Dennis- I’ve all ready told you, she wasn’t pregnant when I left, were you Zoe
Kat marched up the group from the café and stood in front of Dennis, don’t you dare, don’t you dare make out it was her fault, she had a miscarriage, she lost her baby because you didn’t have the guts to stay
Dennis- look Kat I’m sorry she lost the baby, but it wasn’t mine
Kat- how dare you, Kat slapped him hard across the face, don’t try and get out of it
Dennis moved his jaw in a circle and looked at her, look Kat I don’t know what Zoë’s been telling you, but when I left she wasn’t pregnant, have you asked yourselves why I left?
Zoe- Kat please let just leave it
Kat- you haven’t got any guts, your like Den, he couldn’t either
Dennis- I’m not like him at all
Stacey- what are you lot all shouting about
Kat- just shut up Stacey
Stacey- oi I was only asking
Dennis- it’s nothing Stacey just go back inside
Stacey- this is about princess Zoe again, no wonder he left
Zoe- what did you say? Zoe stepped forward and Dennis stepped in front of Stacey Dennis- Stacey go back inside
Stacey- you did the right thing getting rid of her, all she does is whine

Dennis stepped away from the minute mart when Stacey went in

Dennis looked up as a hand slipped in his, he looked at Sharon and squeezed her hand, not as sorry as I am

Kat- and as for you
Mo- you two make me sick
Sharon- look I’m sorry Zoe lost the baby, and I’m sorry if us being here makes you uncomfortable, but this is our home too and we’re not going anywhere
Dennis- come on
Kat lunged at Sharon and catching her off guard pushed Sharon to the floor, you bitch this is all your fault
Sharon pushed Kat and ending up punching Kat’s jaw in the process
By this time all the stalls holders had gone quiet and were watching the group shout and scream at each other. Everyone in the market place was standing still listening to the show.
Dennis stepped between them and glaring at Kat pushed her away from Sharon, just leave her alone, he bent down to pull Sharon to her feet, I’m sick of this, of being painted the bad guy and I’m not letting you attack Sharon, he stood in front of Sharon guarding her, protecting her. Zoe wasn’t pregnant with my baby it was a lie her and Den concocted to keep me away from Sharon.
Kat- that’s a filthy lie, even from you
Zoe- Dennis please don’t
Dennis- and you know what’s even worse, I found her bed with my father, she’d been sleeping with him all along to try and get pregnant
Charlie- how dare you
Dennis- I found them the night I left, she followed me back to the flat and told me she’d never been pregnant she just wanted to keep me here
Chrissie stood in the doorway for the Vic, what’s going on?
Dennis- I’m just setting them straight
Chrissie- what? About… she trailed off and she looked at Zoe pale face and her shaking body
Mo- that’s a lie, Zoe tell him it’s a lie
The Slater’s turned to Zoe who was pale and shaking, waiting for her to say something

Part 26
Freya sat in the lounge waiting for the removal van to arrive with her things. She’d been out the day before and had brought all the paint she needed. It had been a month since the accident, two days since the revelation that Zoe was in fact pregnant with Den’s child and not Dennis’s had rocked the Square and disgusted the residents. This day meant that she could finally put her past to rest, she’d move her furniture in to her new house and go and visit Dylan and put that part of her life behind her in the past where it belonged.
Chrissie sat on the sofa, she hadn’t been able to get hold of Zoe and she needed to make sure that the stupid cow hadn’t said anything, at all. She jumped slightly when the phone she held began to ring, hello
Jake- morning gorgeous
Chrissie- morning Jake
Jake- how are you?
Chrissie- I’m fine she stood up and walked to the window
Jake- I heard about Zoe
Chrissie- you and half the square
Jake looked up at the window where she was standing and smiled, you look pretty
Chrissie- thank you
Jake- why don’t you let me take you out again tonight, forget about everything for a few hours
Chrissie- and how will I do that?
Jake- is that a yes
Chrissie smiled at him standing in the market place looking up at her, ok
Jake grin spread across his face, I’ll pick you up
Chrissie- ok, I’ll see you later
Jake- bye, he watched her turn from the window and sighing to himself carried on walking.
Dennis looked at himself in the mirror, steam was rising from the shower but he could she himself clearly. What had he done? He hadn’t meant to tell everyone, but he just couldn’t take it anymore, not when it involved Sharon getting hurt. When they’d got back to the flat he’d tended her scratches that had rage boiling inside him.
Sharon- Dennis, she opened the door to see him standing in front of the mirror and anger on his face. What’s wrong?
Dennis- nothing
Sharon- you can’t change the past
Dennis-I wouldn’t want to
Sharon- it wasn’t your fault
Dennis- yes it was
Sharon shook her head, how was it your fault? Den and Zoë cooked up the scheme, they did what they did for themselves, how is that your fault?
Dennis- she did it because of me
Sharon- and Den did it because of me, we’re both to blame
Dennis looked at her; it’s not your fault
Sharon- it can’t be yours with out it being mine, and I know it’s not my fault
Dennis sighed and rested his forehead on the mirror, you’re right
Sharon- all you did was what was a right for a child you thought you’d have, if she hadn’t been pregnant we’d have been together since Christmas
Dennis turned her into his arms and rested his head on top of hers; ok I know you’re right but…
Sharon stroked her hands over his bare back to comfort, there aren’t any buts, they have to live the consequences, it was their plan, their actions that made the mess.
Dennis kissed her hair, ok so did you wana go to the café for breakfast, my shout
Sharon smiled, I actually have something else in mind
Dennis kissed her lips and went with her to the bed room.
The large white removal van pulled up onto Albert square, all the residents were looking out of windows and doors to see the new arrival or arrivals. Freya stepped out of number 29 and walked round the back of the van and smiled, finally she had her new beginning
Ray- where’d you want the stuff?
Freya- just in the house
Jake- you’ve been busy
Freya jumped at the sound of his voice, but tried to fix a smile to her face, morning
Jake- you’re moving in then
Freya- that’s what it looks like
Jake smiled at her, want a hand
Freya’s smile spread, that would be great, thanks
Jake pulled off his suit jacket, how much stuff
Freya laughed; it’s for the whole house
Jake laughed, better get started then
Freya climbed in to the van and picked up a small box, I’ll leave you to it

Danny walked past the white removal van and spotted Jake inside, he looked up at Jake and quirked his eyebrow, what are you doing?
Jake- moving stuff what does it look like?

Jake- the new arrival, Freya
Danny- who?
Jake nodded towards the slim blonde walking towards them, Freya
Freya- yep
Danny grinned, what about Chrissie?
Jake shook his head, don’t be an idiot Danny
Freya smiled, wondering what they were talking about, I’m Freya, she held out her hand to Danny

Dennis and Sharon walked through the square hand in hand, they were aware people watched and talked about them, about Den, about Zoë. Sharon squeezed Dennis’s hand and opened the café door for them.
Tricia- hi what can I get you?
Sharon- erm… two coffees please, where’s Jane?
Tricia- she’s in South Africa
Sharon looked confused, South Africa? Where’s Ian?
Tricia- I’m sorry you don’t know
Sharon- know what?
Tricia- he died, about a month ago
Sharon- what? She’d gone deathly pale, why? How?
Tricia- it was an accident
Sharon- oh my god
Tricia- Jane went back with Kathy after the funeral, I’m sorry
Sharon pulled the door open, I have to go, where’s Pauline?
Dennis wrapped her up in his arms, its ok
Sharon hugged him tightly and let the tears fall, how? How can he just be dead?

Chrissie walked through the square and could hear the whispers and murmurs of people gossip, still talking about what had happened days ago.

Zoë- what? I couldn’t take it anymore, I wanted to leave but I couldn’t not with Dennis taking the blame, I still love him
Sam- Zoë think about it, what are people going to say? You’ve told everyone about having Den’s baby and everyone thinks he’s run off with another woman
Zoë- I don’t care, there are no more secrets now
Sam dropped for voice so it was only a whisper, only the fact that we helped cover up a dead body
Zoë- but I didn’t kill him, I don’t care anymore
Sam- what’s going to happen Zoë when people start talking? Whispering?
Zoë- I don’t care, I’m going to be here, I’m leaving tomorrow
Sam- leaving? Why?
Zoë- I want a fresh start, I’m going out to Ibiza with Kelly, I can’t stay around here anymore
Jake walked up the stairs with red roses in his hand, he’d take her out again, well out of the pub that is, so they could have a night for them selves.
Chrissie was standing at the sink, drinking a glass of water when Jake turned at the doorway to look at her. She smiled

Jake pulled the roses from behind his back, there for you
Chrissie- thanks, she took them from him and sniffed them, they’re beautiful

Freya sat at the table in the kitchen looking around at all the boxes that still needed unpacking, she sighed and then got up to pull a bottle of wine from out of the fridge, she smiled when she remembered how Danny had managed to manuver her in to a date, not that she minded, but it had been a while since she’d dated anyone, and the nerves danced along her skin, it would be fine, it was just dinner.

Freya sat in her kitchen with a cup of coffee, bowl of cereal and the radio playing away, she tapped her foot to the beat of the music. When the phone rang she sighed and stood up to answer it, hello
Stella- Miss Andrews?
Freya- yes
Stella- this is Stella, Stella Wild-
Freya- yes I remember, what can I help you with?
Stella- it’s about Dylan, I’m afraid he’s tried to take his own life, he’s on the way to the hospital as we speak

She looked around the room at the wardrobe that was old, and the doors closed. The walls were a pale blue and the dark curtains slightly open. She shifted on the bed to reach out to close them when his arm snaked around her waist, where do you think you’re going? He voice was rough with sleep

Freya stood outside the hospital, she’d been standing like this outside another hospital a month ago after she’d killed a man. She took and deep breath and walked inside and up to the reception desk.
Freya- I’m looking for Dylan Matthews, he was brought in earlier
The receptionist tapped a few keys on the keyboard and looked at the screen, yes he’s on ward 15, third floor
Freya- thank you, she stopped in front of the lift and waited, she could feel the nerves and fear dance up and down her spine, what had he done and why.
Chrissie crept down the stairs of number 41 over and hour later in the dress she’d worn the night before, I’ll see you later
Jake smiled, count on it

Martin watched Sharon walk out of the flat and towards the market, Sharon
Sharon turned her head and smiled, hello Martin
Martin- mum’s gone to see Michelle and Vicki, she said to say sorry

Sharon- I found out about Ian yesterday
Martin- oh right, you ok about it?

Martin- it hasn’t been easy but we’ve gotten through it

Martin nodded and turned to serve a customer, what can I get you?
Dennis was stood in front of the bookies; he had been standing there for 10 minutes just looking at the place, his place. He couldn’t believe it when he’d heard Andy was dead but he had been thousands of miles away and he’d had Sharon. But when he’d gotten back and Pat had told him about the bookies, he was shocked.
Jim- what you doing out here?
Dennis- just looking, how’s Dot?
Jim- she’s fine, yeh, you going in?
Dennis smiled, might as well, he stepped inside with Jim

Pat- did you wana come through? Check things over?

Freya sat in the cheap white plastic chairs the hospitals provided and waited for the doctor
Doctor- Miss Andrews?
Freya stood up nervously twisting her hands, yes
Doctor- I’m pleased to tell you that the damage the lack of oxygen has done to the brain is not permanent
Freya- really?
Doctor- yes, he should regain feeling in his lower back and legs over the next few days
Freya- what’s going to happen to him?
Doctor- he’ll have to be kept in for about a week at least, then we’ll see how he’s doing
Freya smiled, thank you doctor, she looked through the window and saw a short man with dark brown hair and pale skin in a hospital gown lying in bed with his eyes closed, she sighed and closed her own eyes for a moment she hadn’t wanted to think not until she knew and now, she felt deflated, empty, even hollow, she’d been hoping for the worst and yet again it hadn’t come, what kind of justice was that?
Danny stood in the club looking at the boxes stacked on the floor by the bar, what am I meant to do with these?
Johnny walked out from the office, what I pay you to do, move them
Danny looked up, move them where? They look really heavy
Johnny- into the stock room and I don’t care, just get them moved from out here
Danny— yes boss
Johnny- I’m going out and want them cleared by then time I get back, ok

Sharon stood at the bar in the Vic and smiled when Chrissie came along the bar to her, hey

Freya opened the door of the hospital room and walked slowly to the side of the bed, she looked down at the man who has destroyed her life, made her have to survive, survive on her own. She sat in the chair and looked at the machines monitoring his heart beat, they'd sedated him for a while, so they could check on him, make sure everything was working and it was. She looked down and the short brown hair, pale skin and knew the eyes behind the closed lids were the same colour as her own. He was short where she was tall, she taken after her mother everyone had said so, and Dylan, he favoured his father, their father, the father he’d taken away from her, the father that she would never see again.
Jake walked in to the bookies and saw Dennis talking to Pat, he walked over and looked Dennis straight in the eye, can I have a word?
Dennis nodded, come on through
Jake followed him through to his office and watched him sit behind the desk, it’s about Chrissie
Dennis- what about her? Is she ok?
Jake- yeh yeh she’s fine, it’s just that, I duno how to put this
Dennis- just say it
Jake- we’re involved, sort of dating
Dennis looked at Jake, he could tell he was nervous, didn’t mean he couldn’t make him squirm a little, really?
Jake- look I just wanted you to know, that I’m not going to mess her about, I care about her, I don’t ever wana hurt her
Dennis- well now, so just where it is heading? The sort of dating?
Jake- I’m not sure exactly but I know that I’m serious about her, I care about her, I just wanted you know that
Dennis- so what do you want my blessing?
Jake- maybe yeh
Dennis- does Chrissie know you’re here? Doing this?
Jake- no, she’d kill me
Dennis smiled, he meant what he said, he stood up and reached his hand over the desk, ok then, you got it
Jake took his hand and shook it, thanks
Dennis- but I’m warning you, you hurt her, mess her about, doing anything to upset her, I’ll hunt you down, just a fair warning
Jake- ok thanks, just to let you know, I spoke to Sharon earlier and she said exactly the same thing

Sharon laughed, oh I can’t complain, you want me to get Chrissie?

Freya opened the door to the black taxi and looked around Albert square, she turned to pay the taxi driver then took a deep breath. She walked towards her house, the house she’d worked for, paid for, fought for, it was hers.

Freya turned to see Danny jogging up to her

Freya- out why?
Danny- thought we were guna ave lunch
Freya- I’m really not I’m the mood Danny
Danny- why don’t I take you out for dinner?

Part 35
Freya sat in the bath full of fragrant water and bubbles. The visit to Dylan had shaken her more than she realised, she should have made an excuse and gotten out of dinner with Danny but she didn’t, couldn’t. Now she was having to relax and try and put the whole morning in the back of her mind instead of sitting and thinking about what Dylan would do next, what she’d do next.
Sharon walked into their flat as the sunset and shouted for Dennis. He didn’t answer so she hung up her coat and walked through the kitchen into the lounge. She saw it the moment she entered the kitchen, he’d been decorating. The smile on her face was blooming when she turned and headed for the bathroom where she could hear the shower going. Dennis
Dennis- Sharon?
Sharon- you’ve decorated
He pulled back the shower curtain and grabbed a towel to wrap himself in, erm… yeh
Sharon leant forward and kissed him, I love you
Dennis smiled, glad you like it

Freya closed the door to her house and grinned to herself, she pulled off her long coat and hung it up in the hallway. She walked through to the kitchen still grinning and filled the kettle with water.

Jake lay looking at Chrissie sleeping beside him, she was the best thing that had ever happened to him and he wanted to show her that, he stroked a finger over her cheek and her eyelids fluttered open.
Chrissie- did I fall asleep
Jake smiled down at her, only for a few minutes

Dylan hauled Danny up and pulled him forward to Freya’s front door, he pulled out a key ring and found a brass key he’d had made, he put it in the lock and he himself in as Danny began to come round murmuring about the pain in his head.
Dylan kicked him in to the living room, shut the hell up, he whispered
Sharon lay awake, she looked over at Dennis sleeping and sighed, she was so sure that he was going to propose; she’d been waiting for it all night and he hadn’t mentioned it, nothing. She looked at the picture of them together that was sitting on her bedside table; it had been taken in America when they’d gone to New York for the day. She smiled at the memory; Dennis had brought her a single red rose and taken her to a posh restaurant for dinner. She thought about tonight, if she waited for Dennis to propose she’d be old and grey on her wedding day, now she thought all she needed was a plan, how and where could she propose.
Jake and Chrissie lay together in bed in a tangle of limbs, Chrissie had laid her head on his shoulder and Jake had an arm wrapped around her waist, holding her to him in sleep.
Danny sat in a chair he’d help haul in himself tied up in Freya’s living room, watching Dylan pace up and down in front of him. Look mate
Dylan- I ain’t your mate
Danny- what’s going on? Where’s Freya?
Dylan punched Danny in the face, shut up! You’re not fit to speak her name, he spat his eyes wild with fury
Freya lay in her bed asleep, she was wrapped up tightly against the cold in her blue duvet. Her head was lying on the pillow and her eyes flutter open, something had spooked her, told her to wake, she felt the dread and fear war inside her and she sat up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
Jake woke up and looked around, something wasn’t right, he could feel it. He heard the harsh breaths of a mad man an instant before everything went dark.
Dylan gagged Chrissie and Jake and tied them together on their sofa, Jake held Chrissie’s hand in his, and whispered to her that it was going to be all right, everything was going to be fine
Dylan- shut up, just hut the hell up
Jake- what do you want?
Dylan- I just told you to shut up
Jake- I would if I knew what you want and what you’re doing
Dylan turned to face them, you’ll find out soon enough, the evil grin on his face mixed with his howling laughter, he’d got them now he thought, he controlled everything.

Eventful Beginnings
Part 40
Freya had wrapped herself in her long dressing gown and was stepping down her staircase with her back against the wall, taking the stairs one at a time terrified of what she’d find when she got to the bottom.
Dylan sat on the coffee table facing the blank TV screen; I’ve done it I’ve found them all
Chrissie- Jake
Jake squeezed her hand, Chrissie it’s ok
Dylan- ok ok, I’ll get back to them. He turned and faced his tied up hostages with a wild smile on his face, got to go now, but don’t worry I’ll be back real soon, his voice was calm, even reasonable
Chrissie let a tear slip down her cheek as Dylan ran a hand over her hair
Jake- what do you want?
Dylan- don’t worry it’s all in hand
Jake- who are you?
Dylan- I said it’s all in hand, I’ll bring you a drink up next time whiskey’s good, he turned out of the living room and started down the stairs
Jake kept Chrissie’s hands in his own until he heard the door slam shut, you ok?
Chrissie- what’s going on Jake?
Jake- I don’t know, just hold still, I’ll try and untie you
Chrissie- who the hell is he?
Jake kissed her forehead, I don’t know
Chrissie- Jake I’m scared
Jake- I know
Danny fell from the chair he’s been sitting on; his feet had been tied to the legs. He tried to open his eyes but could only open his right; his left was swollen shut where he’d hit it when he’d passed out the second time. His ribs were broken and his left wrist was killing him, that was broken too.
Freya swung the door open at the sound of Danny crashing to the floor; she held a baseball bat in both hands and her back was pressed against the door, Danny? She flicked on the light and rushed to his aid, Danny?
Danny- yeh
Freya- what happened? What’s going on?
Danny- I duno, some guy smashed me over the head, tied me up and brought me in here, I think he had a key
Freya- a key?
Danny- I think so, untie my legs will ya
Freya- yeh yeh, she bent down and began to untie them from the chair, her mind racing
Danny- he must have been watching us earlier
Freya- what?
Danny lay against the sofa his ribs were shooting pain everywhere, I watched you go inside the house then everything went black
Freya heard the phone ring and jumped, holy crap
Danny- you ok, he didn’t hurt you?
Freya- no, no I’m fine, look I’m going to answer that and get some stuff for your cuts
Danny- we need to get out here incase he comes back
Freya- look Danny, I think it’s my brother
Danny- what brother?
Freya picked up her mobile with out realising, hello, what? When? Ok, I think he’s all ready here. She put her mobile on the sofa and her hand in her hands
Danny- Freya
Freya- let me get you untied
Danny- Freya what the hell’s going on?
Freya- it’s a complicated long story
Danny- your brother’s a nutter
Freya- yeh, she wiped away the tears that fell down her cheeks and untied Danny’s hands, he won’t hurt me Danny, he loves me

Part 41
Jake had managed to untie Chrissie’s hands so she was untying her feet
Jake- grab the phone and check on Danny
Chrissie- what?
Jake- please Chrissie
Chrissie picked up the phone pressed the speed dial button then wedged the phone between her shoulder and ear and tried to untie Jake’s hands
Chrissie- answer phone, isn’t he with Freya?
Jake- yeh, he flecks his wrists then pulled her hard against him in a rib-crushing hug, are you ok? He didn’t hurt you?
Chrissie wrapped her arms around him, I’m ok he didn’t touch me
Jake- god if anything-
Chrissie pressed her fingers against his lips, it didn’t
Jake too k her hand and pressed his lips to her fingers, I don’t know what I’d do with out you, I love you
Chrissie smiled and lent over to kiss him, I know, I’m guna give Sharon a ring, check she’s ok
Jake- I’m going to check he’s gone then lock everywhere up again
Chrissie- should we call the police?
Jake- I suppose so
Danny got up and stared at Freya, what?
Freya- he tried to kill himself last night, he’d been in an intuition for a year
Danny- he killed your parents?
Freya- yeh, he’s ill I understand that but yeh he did
Danny- so what’s he doing here
Freya- I don’t know, I’m sorry you got caught up in this Danny
Danny- he’s guna come back for you ain’t he?
Sharon woke slowly, she opened her eyes and saw that she was sprawled across Dennis’s chest, her head lying on his stomach, she laughed lightly at herself then sniffed up, he’d left the oven on. She laughed again and got up, opened the door and saw the flames leap at her, Dennis, Dennis, she screamed

Part 42
Dylan opened the Freya’s front back door as Danny and Freya walked out the back and ran towards the Vic not noticing the flames inside Sharon and Dennis’s flat.
Dylan walked into the lounge and saw the ropes lying on the floor, what! Where is he? He raced up stairs to find all the door open and rooms empty that was it! He picked up the petrol caster and walked calmly down the stairs and out into the square with a wicked gleam in his eyes and a twisted pleasure on his face.
Dennis grabbed a towel and put it over there heads, listen we just need to get to the door, careful about breathing in smoke, ok
Sharon clung tightly to him partly out of fear and partly not wanting to leave him in here, oh god
Dennis kissed her forehead, I’m right here with you, here we go, on three
Chrissie swore as Jake came back upstairs, their phone lines down
Jake- what?
Chrissie- something’s wrong Jake I can feel it
Jake sat her down on the sofa, call the cops
Danny- Jake! Jake!
Jake- Danny!
Danny burst into the doorway with Freya behind him, you two ok?
Jake- are you?
Chrissie- Freya? She left the phone on the sofa and walked over to the pale Freya, are you ok?
Freya- he’s been here hasn’t he?
Chrissie- what?
Freya burst in to tears and slumped down the doorway
Danny- her brother, he grabbed me, he’s a nutter
Jake- look at you, hold on I’ve got some stuff
Freya- I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I’m sorry, she repeated knowing the words were useless
Jake- Freya look at me, where will he have gone, what will he do now?
Freya shook her head, I don’t know, I don’t know him any more
Dennis pushed the bedroom door open and the heat seared his skin, he pushed forward keeping Sharon close to his side, Are you ok?
Sharon- I’m so dizzy, Denni-
Dennis- Sharon!
Sharon slid bonelessly to the floor, smoke filling his lungs, heat burning his skin Dennis tried to bend down to reach her, Sharon come on, please
Dylan laughed to him self as he poured the petrol over the stairs and along the carpet towards the bar, they’d burn, all burn, burn the witches his mind screamed, he continued his maniacal giggle as he smashed a few bottles on the bar. He pulled out the lime green disposable lighter and sneering around the pub clicked it on and placed the flame to the alcohol.
Chrissie- we need to call the police
Freya- they’ll be on there way
Jake- are you sure?
Freya- were guna need an ambulance for- her eyes widened in fear as she saw the flames in the flat’s window, oh no please god no
Chrissie followed her gaze and leapt to the window, Sharon Jake that’s Sharon’s flat
Chrissie opened the window to get a better look and heard it, the explosion rang in her ears as it burst through the windows shattering glass and throwing wood across the square, No no Sharon! Dennis! She screamed knowing it was no use
Danny- what’s going on, this is totally mad
Freya- no no no, god please don’t let them die, please please please
Chrissie and Jake stepped over Freya and Danny trying to haul her up to face flames of their own leaping up the stairs towards them.
OMG! Don't let them die! Please! More soon, tis fab!

Sharon opened her eyes and saw the smoke above her eyes and felt the heat, but she could feel Dennis, his body covering hers, protecting, Dennis, Dennis, she croaked
Dennis- Sharon, Sharon can you hear me?
Jake stood at stared at the flames leaping towards him, s**t
Chrissie- the fire extinguisher
Jake- where is it?
Chrissie- Kitchen hold on
Danny- come on Freya we have to get out of here
Freya- what has he done? he’s my brother Danny
Danny- come on Freya, he stood with an arm wrapped round her waist and he leant against the doorframe, Jake
Jake- don’t worry, everything will be fine
Danny- how will it be fine Jake?
Pauline stood in her kitchen glass shattered on the floor as she heard the explosion and saw flames leap at the windows to the pub. She quickly moved to the phone hoping it wasn’t too late, fire brigade please
Dylan sat in the Vic’s bar pouring whiskey into a tall glass, the flames had caught quickly, he could see the dancing along the bar and floor, they reach him soon. He swallowed the whiskey and poured another. He looked up at the bust of queen Victoria and asked, what do I do now then master?
Jake used the fire extinguisher and it beat back some of the flames, but not enough, what were they going to do
Chrissie looked at him with tears streaming down her face, is this it Jake?
Jake wrapped his arms around her waist and brought her closer to him, no of course it’s not, it’ll be ok
Chrissie clung to him more tears rolling down her cheeks, I love you Jake
Jake took her face in his hands, and I love you too, you have to trust me
Chrissie- I do trust you
Jake- then listen to what we’re going to do
Sharon- I love you
Dennis shook Sharon’s shoulders but she slipped back into unconsciousness, Sharon come on baby, I need you, come on
As Sharon’s lifeless body lay in his hands he made a decision, he was going to get them out of here, come on darling let’s go

Part 44
With Danny and Freya covered in a wet sheet, Jake watched them descend the stairs and into the flames, he watched for a whole three minutes, waiting for a voice or a sound, his heart had stopped and was waiting to beat again.
Danny- Jake come on, we’ve opened the door
Jake slid the sheet over Chrissie then himself, you ready, we’ll go slow
Chrissie nodded her head and walked down the stairs one step at a time, she could feel the heat through the sheet, could smell the smoke but she kept hold of Jake and slowly descended the stairs
Jake pressed his mouth to her ear, it’s kinda hot don’t you think?
Chrissie laughed but kept focused on the stairs in front of her, she felt her feet hit the floor, level. 'We need to get to the door'
Jake- I told you we’d we all right
Pauline, Dot, the Slater's and others on the square had come out of their homes and were standing in the middle of the square watching the fires burn the buildings to the ground. Hoping and praying the residents had or would get out alive. Another explosion screamed in the air and sent heat racing over the resident’s as they watched the Vic explode.
Danny- you ok?
Freya- yeh we need to watch for them
Danny- what’s going on Freya? Your brother?
Freya- I don’t know, I’m sorry Danny
Danny- it’s ok, come on Jake, come on, he chanted waiting for his brother to emerge un harmed
Dennis managed to pick Sharon up in his arms and walk with his back against the wall towards the door. When Sharon had fainted and he couldn’t wake her up, the explosion had shot right past his head as he’d dived and he’d protected Sharon’s body with his own. He pulled open the door burning his hand on the handle, but he didn’t feel it, he just needed to get out, get Sharon to safety.
Sharon came round again, the heat was less intense and her vision a little clearer, she saw Dennis's face full of fear and determination, she reached her hand up to his cheek, Dennis
Dennis stopped walking down the stairs and looked down at her, Sharon, you awake?
Sharon nodded, yeh darling
Dennis kissed her forehead, thank god your ok
Sharon- are you carrying me?
Dennis- yeh, it was the only way seeing as you fainted on me
Sharon- the fire, oh my god, the fire
Dennis kissed her lips, shhh it’s ok I’ve got us out we just need to get out of to the square, he smiled down at her, you hear that, fire engines, we’re guna be ok

Jake and Chrissie walked out of the Vic, past the cellar and out through the gate, they watched as fire-fighter’s jump of out their trucks and began to unreel they’re hoses. One walked towards them, Chrissie Watts? Jake Moon?
Jake nodded, yeh that’s us
Fireman- come this way please, is there anyone else in there?
Chrissie shook her head, no Danny and Freya?
Fireman- they’re fine the ambulance has taken them to the hospital; they didn’t want to leave until you two were found
Jake- is my brother ok?
Fireman- I duno
Chrissie- what about Sharon and Dennis, their flat
Fireman- we’ve just sent some one in
Chrissie turned and stared at the flats the flames coming out of the windows and smoke flowing through the open door, please let them be all right
Jake held her tightly against him, they will be
Danny lay back and slowly breathed in the oxygen they medics had given him, his body screamed with pain, he watched the medic bandage his arm and put it in a sling, what about my brother?
Medic- we don’t know any more sir
Freya sat in a shivering in the sliver blanket breathing in the oxygen slowly. Why had Dylan done this, what did he think he was doing? Was he still alive? Where was he now? Were Chrissie, Jake, Sharon and Dennis ok? And finally was this all her fault?
Dennis moved slowly along the wall he was becoming weaker, he could feel all his energy start to drain from his body, just one more step, just one more. Even as his body began to pitch forward, he felt hands reach out and stop him, he looked up to see two fire-fighter’s pulling Sharon from him. Thank god what the last thought his mind registered.

Jake and Chrissie stood waiting for what seemed like hours, she turned her head to see Pauline standing with Dot tears pouring from her eyes. She turned away from the image and watched the doorway.
Jake- they’ll be ok
Chrissie- I hope so, just as she spoke she could see a fire-fighter emerge from the smoke with Sharon in his arms. She pulled away from Jake and rushed to her side, Sharon! Sharon!
Sharon- Chrissie?
Chrissie- yeh it’s me babe, are you ok?
Sharon- yeh I - think so, finding it - hard to - breathe. The medic passed her a mask and placed it over her mouth, where’s - Dennis?
Chrissie turned from the back of the ambulance and saw Dennis being carried out too, Dennis? she whispered
Sharon- is he out, is he ok?
Chrissie- yeh they’ve got him babe don’t worry
Sharon- I want to - see him
Chrissie turned back to Sharon, look you need to stay here and keep breathing that stuff in; I’ll go and see what he’s doing ok?
Jake rubbed his hand over her shoulder; I’ll stay here with her
Freya sat in the cubicle waiting to be cleared to go home, she wanted to go and see Danny, see if he was ok. She wanted to get some news; she needed to know if everybody got out, if everyone was alive.
Doc- Freya Andrews
Freya- yep
Doc- we’d like to keep you in over night for observation, you inhaled a lot of smoke.
Freya- I need to see Danny, find out if my friends are ok
Doc- we’ll let you see Daniel as soon as we can, and try and find out about your friends
Chrissie approached the other ambulance to hear the sounds of a cardiac resuscitation, she saw Dennis lying on a bed being shocked by a machine, Dennis! the word came out in a scream, but she didn’t hear it
Medic- charging 360 all clear, shocking
Dennis body jumped up from the bed and then lay still
Medic- charging at 360, shocking
The machine began to beep in rhythm
Medic- we’ve got him back
Chrissie- Dennis, Dennis is he alive?
Medic- for the moment yes
omg!!!! DENNIS!!! he's alive, poor chrissie, jake, sharon and dennis, fab huni

Sharon- what’s going – on Jake?
Jake watched Chrissie and resisted the urge to run over and fold her into his comforting arms, I’m not sure
Sharon- not sure?
Jake- I’m not a medical expert Sharon, I don’t know how their treating him
Sharon- I’m sorry
Jake- look he’ll be fine, there was a lot of smoke, probably just inhaled loads like you did
Sharon smiled falsely at him knowing something was seriously wrong with Dennis, her Dennis
Danny- what’s going Freya? I can’t understand any of this
Freya sat in the plastic char next to Danny’s bed, her face covered in black, I’m sorry, so so sorry, I didn’t know, the tears fell freely over her face it was the only way she could express the sorrow she felt.
Danny- what are you sorry for? Your brother’s the maniac
Freya- but he didn’t this because of me, because he can’t help it, because he’s ill
Danny- he’s one of those blokes who like love and worship fire right?
Freya shook her head, it was too late her new start, new life was ruined and the people affected needed to know why they were put at risk too. He’s mentally ill Danny, he has been for a long time
Danny- how long?
Freya- as long as I can remember, he was 7 when I was born, I always remember him being Ill, doing weird things, minor stuff at first never thought much of it till, till the night…
Danny- till what?
Freya- until I had my first boyfriend, I was about 12 maybe 13, nothing serious but he went mad, shouting and screaming, he actually beat him up, broke his jaw. I’d never seen him like that, I never felt scared off him till then
Danny- and?
Chrissie- I’m going with him, go with Sharon
Jake- are you ok?
Chrissie- just keep her clam ok? She climbed into the back off Dennis’s ambulance to sit next to Dennis’s bed
Jake- I’ll see you there, ok?
Chrissie nodded her head, yeh but she kept her eyes on Dennis
Pauline- what’s going on Sharon? Who did this? Where’s Dennis going?
Sharon- Paul
Pauline- what?
Sharon- tell me, tell me the truth, is he ok?
Pauline shrugged knowing the full truth, I don’t know, I came straight over here
Sharon nodded her head, tears rolled down her cheeks, I don’t wanna lose him Paul, I can’t live with-out him
Pauline- its ok, it’s ok
Danny- he did what?
Freya- he killed my parents, our parents
Danny- why?
Freya stared at him, lying in a hospital bed in a hospital gown, his skin as pale as the walls. I… I… I…
